Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee wants to change the constitution.
Why?
Because "God" is not happy with it.
For real!
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
Huckabee also wants to amend the Constitution to prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens - a radical step no other major presidential candidate has embraced.

They don't want to pay Americans because it will cut into their profits. Immigrants don't take these jobs. You give it to them in order to line your pockets. No, the founding fathers were mostly Protestant or non denominational. And while they got a lot of their ideas for the constitution and the declaration from Locke, they do mention God quite a few times. So ya, id have to say they teach history in America.

He is absolutely 100% right that children born to illegal aliens in the US should NOT automatically become citizens. So you skip the Mexican border and pop a kid out in the US, that kid automatically has the same rights and privileges of a citizen? Something's wrong with that, and the Democrats won't do anything productive to stop this or the continuing flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico that are bankrupting many hospitals along the border and causing a host of other problems. I believe many people are being racist and don't understand that all children born in the US are anchor kids. Hey Jenlovesgossip - in answer to the rest of you post - Ventura county is for the most part Republican. I am however, a Democrat who is currently a little PO'd at the Dem stance regarding illegals. The constitution should be left alone. Bringing god into the goverment is what is happening in Iran…it doesn't work out too well for most people. Hey! Yes it WAS confusing so thanks for the clarification. I didn't answer your other question regarding if Americans were not liked. It was a different time and attitudes were very different. Americans were held in a higher regard. Americans who lived abroad were also treated differently than say American tourists. I am serious when I tell you that we were very mindful of being guests in another country. I did have a few people want to speak with me in English when they found out I was American, so they could practice! They were good times.

I think Perez is jumping to conclusions. Huckabee is expressing his view that the country has slipping morals, not necessarily saying that we need to add God's will to the constitution.
If Huckabee wants an amendment to the constitution that takes away any rights that have always been guaranteed to natural born us citizens, it won't happen. I don't see a majority of congress anytime soon passing laws that limit rights, and religious freedom. I also don't see Huckabee getting the party's nomination.
Ultimately, if it's not broken, don't fix it, eh? The constitution has been amended only 27 times in 220 years. Anyone thinking a presidential candidate's backing will make number 28, frankly needs kicked in the head.

Why is it so bad to believe in God? People say there should be a separate line between church and state but let me tell you something. My kids can't even say the pledge of allegiance or sing God Bless America in their school any more because it offends people of different religions. WTH!! I am so sick of changing my culture for other cultures when I live in the United States of America. If you go to any other country they DO NOT CHANGE their cultures to appease other religions or other cultures. Why do we have to do it? I remember being able to dress up in Halloween costumes for school and now my kids can't do it. While I don't agree with violating the Seperation of Church & State Doctrine so that all religions feel welcome to worship here, I do feel like his policy on illegal immigration is exactly what our country needs. The US excepts MORE IMMIGRANTS LEGALLY THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!! Seriously, google it. Changing the consitution to mirror "God's" word is stupid, but I don't understand why children that are born here in the us to illegals should automatically get citizenship. That's silly! Perez I think you're great, but in no way is Huckabee worse than Bush.
Frankly I am tired of fighting with the schools system because of the over population that these immigrants are causing (have they ever heard of birth control). In the county (Gwinnett County, Georgia) where I live at, when an adult comes to register their child for school, the schools are NOT allowed to ask for proof of citizenship, i.e Birth Certificate. So the child is registered, stuck in a class and then we have to hire an ESOL teacher so that hopefully that child will eventually be able to speak english. The we have to pay for a SPLOST tax to help pay for more schools to help with this over population. So I say VOTE HUCKABEE. Why should the illegals be entitled to everything when they are here ILLEGALLY (for those that don't know this means prohibited by law)

Yes 'n' I hear ya and agree 100%. I too am born in this country, and my ancestors go back as well, not as far as yours tho. My ancestors, of European descent came thru Ellis Island and through hard work and the drive to succeed, became US citizens. I am tired of these yoohoos telling us to get out of OUR country.
