American Idol returned to TV on Tuesday with its worst premiere in four years.
Last night's ratings were down 13% from last year and down 10% from 2006.
Idol's not dead dead. It was still the most watched show on television Tuesday night. However, the decline in viewership does not bode well for the aging show.

Watched it and I am an idol fan…however, I think it needs to spice things up a little maybe bring on more guest host or make it a little more interesting.

Last nights show sucked. I actually like Idol and I almost fell asleep a few times watching it. Oh well.
Have to admit, last night's premiere did bomb. I live 20 minutes from Philly and was disappointed with the outcome. Didn't put a good rep. on our area whatsoever. I have a feeling this season isn't going too do so well just as last season's. Sorry, still think Blake Lewis should have won. We don't need anymore washed out pop singers singing about love. That was the 90s. Get over it. I sure the hell am. =)

What people don't realize is what a joke they are pulling over on everyone. They make it look like those thousands of people in stands all get a chance to sing in front of the P,S & R. They weren't even in town when they held the first round of auditions. They are way more interested in the crazies and bad singers than they are real talent. THIS IS A REALITY TV SHOW!!! NOTHING MORE!!!!!
Good! I fucking hate this show so much and resent the amount of time it eats up in the prime time line up. Its a program that prays on the weak and encourages people to laugh at what appears to be some very disturbed individuals. Its kind of like getting a batch of schoolchildren to laugh at the special education kids on the short bus.
Beyond that, American Idol is responsible for flooding the music market with so much sub-standard, trite, overproduced crap that to see it go down in a blaze of glory would only be too satisfying.
The show jumped the shark the minute that they voted off Jennifer Hudson and that was the last time I watched it.
I hate American Idol and I am boycotting it! Fuck it, fuck Paula Abdul and Fuck Idol fans, this show makes your brain bleed!
I watched for 3 minutes and after the judges made fun of the contestant, I turned it off! I can't believe that they let Paula on the show she can barley speak!
I watched it last night and was so BORED…..the auditions are just unwatchable now. It's not really hilarious when people sing bad anymore….we have seen it before. We have seen Randy hide his face with his papers a million times. We have seen Paula pretend to maintain her composure and punch Simon in the arm a million times. It's just NOT THAT FUNNY. Simon, well….he's just Simon and personally, he dosen't bother me because he never became as sterotypical–he has an always has been the same way. I dare say that it's getting tired watching people get made fun of? It just seems mean now, where before, it was comical because we couldn't believe people would put themselves out there that way. It's just boring now.
It's just not worth it to watch weeks and hours worth of auditons anymore. I am willing to bet that once the actual show gets going, the viewers will be there. But the auditions?? SNORE….

I watched it. I'm so sick of seeing the crazy people. I mute them when they rant. I wish they'd show more of the competition between the good ones. Still, the ones they chose were alright. I was bored by the No rated R movies chick at the end but loved Beth Stalker.

I HATE IDOL…but Perez happens to be wrong…I work for a media company and just read the Nielsen Reports and American Idol got a 33 share which means that it got over 2.4 million viewers than the last years FINALE….so again I HATE IDOL…but Perez as much as I love your site…this statistic is wrong buddy…

I was really disappointed last night. I thought this was a family show but I had to keep blocking my daughter's eyes and muting the tv bc of the language. The guy that had to shave did it for me. Not needed to be seen on family tv. I am over seeing the people that can't sing. Make it a real contest and get on with it. I found issues with the filming. One gal showed up with one green earing and while they filmed her singing she had two and then half way through her audition she had two and while she was being talked to by Paula she had one again. What's up with the split filming.

Fox did not advertise the show therefore most people, including myself, did not know that it premiered last night.
Learn to read PEREZ! Ratings were down 11% overall. Not 13%! I know it's not much of a difference. But seriously, like 1/2 of what you've been 'reporting' over the past few months has been untrue. You need to hire some fact checkers. Or someone who can read.
I think Idol is a good show when they actually get to the talent competition. The auditions are horrible and don't really make you want to stay tuned to the show.

the only thing i like to watch on american idol is the auditions, thats the only part of it i ever watch because they are funny. some of them last night were funny but it wasnt as good as usual.
One Tree Hill with K-Fed was much better than the same old American Idol people that suck and get on there because they suck.

yeah did anyone see where the one girl in the red dress had 1 earring when she came in, started singing, she had 2 earrings and then at the end when Simon was commenting on the way she sang, when they showed her again, she had 1 earring……seems like a set up to me!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to only watch the show souly for the auditions, but now the show is so fucking played out i cant stand it anymore. Who gives a shit who can sing and who cant, and as for paula simon and the other guy??? who are they to judge who is good. FUCK IDOL!!!!!

Re: lindas – Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are "PURCHASED" either by the star themselves, or by someone wishing to honor them. Has nothing to do with any prestige, award, or recognition other than who can afford it.
I think it is still very popular. I don't think they advertised like they did in previous years.

I think Idol has held up consistently since it started. It may have lost viewers to The Biggest Loser which is on at the same time. Idol was brilliant last night with Simon in top form and a great selection of weird auditions. The reactions of family members after the auditions are hysterical and I think Ryan Seacrest does a good job of showing empathy for the losers and being amused and supportive to the winners.

I am an IDOL fan. No doubt about that but this whole auditioning episodes are getting ridiculous. I think they should dump all the auditioning and just show from when they go to hollywood.. Even I was getting tired of seeing people who had no busy auditioning. All they want is there two minutes of fame. The William Hung thing has come and gone.

The only reason Idol premiered with such low ratings is because, unlike with past seasons, Fox didn't advertise the hell out of it. No one knew it was on because of lack of advertising…I guess they bumped it up on the calendar because of the writers's strike and didn't have time for their usual crazy ad blitz.
i think the beginning of the show is the worst. it's not funny anymore to see fucked up delusional people who can't sing. it was maybe funny for the first 1-2 seasons that they focused on that, but it's getting really old now, nothing new. they need to limit the bad auditions a LOT, and they should spend much more time focusing on who the good singers are and their stories. it's so stupid that you don't get to see 90% of the hollywood round people's original auditions

I am really fed up with Idol. Didnt watch much of it last year…in fact I dont think I watch any…cant even remembe who won.. I remember Ruben Studdard winning.over Clay whatever. Carrie Underwood is the only one who has gotten anywhere.., well maybe Doughtery (sp?). Loved he first season, but so fed up with the advertisements and hype…Paula's problems, Simon Cowel being a dickhead…who cares…otherthings I like to watch..
