American Idol returned to TV on Tuesday with its worst premiere in four years.
Last night's ratings were down 13% from last year and down 10% from 2006.
Idol's not dead dead. It was still the most watched show on television Tuesday night. However, the decline in viewership does not bode well for the aging show.

the only way i would watch this show is if I was promised to see ryan seacrests junk….I THINK HE ADORABLE!!
ummm………. Now I know this just sounds like a drem but maybe a small portion of Americans were actually watching the Democratic debates????? Yah I didn't think so……. Look everyone Britneys eating a hershey bar in Walgreens!
I thought it was one of the more entertaining audition episodes in a long time. It wasn't over the top- just plain funny- and good candidates. AI will live on!!!!!!
sigh it was terrible. I felt bad for the contestants. Randy and Paula are terrible and made fun of people who clearly had some problems.
I didn't watch it, and frankly i am over it, but that deosn't mean that i wont watch a few episodes while flippong through chanels! lol

I am 27 and still love that show, I don't give a shit what anyone says. I love Simon Cowell, he is a huge douchebag and says everything I would say, just like you PEREZ!
There wasn't enough advertising for it..I didn't realize it was on Tuesday until that afternoon when I saw something written online. Plus because of the writer's strike no one is watching network TV because it's all re-runs and boring, so it's not like we would see the commercials for it.
It isn't dead till Simon C. says it is. And down 10% is nothing. NBC would hold a live execution for those ratings #'s.
The problem with the show is that it's trying to be a talent competition and a sleazy reality show at the same time. While the bad auditions were funny for a couple of seasons at this point it's completely played out and annoying. I'm bored with the freak show. I would much rather see real talent then someone dressed in a chicken costume who can't carry a tune. If the show wants some credibility they need to lose the losers and get on with the talent.

i thought I would be bored with it but found it surprisingly entertaining. i watched again tonight. Will continue watching.
i watched idol last night..it was ok. same ol' crap. there were a couple of good singers but other than that it was all a bunch of bullshit. all american idol does now is put on stupid people who they know cant sing but they put them on anyway. i guess that's how they get their ratings? started with that william hung character. pretty sad if you ask me…anyways a good majority of those american idols who won were dropped from their label. i think the only good singer that came out of american idol was carrie underwood and kelly clarkson . man do they have some pipes!!
true, kelly and carrie are the only ones who are really big. ive never seen american idol coz i live in australia but those two are the only ones i know of. and i hate country music but i love carrie's music. its not ur normal country music. anyways all of the idol shows no matter what country are purely entertainment so people can have a laugh. its definitely not the same as it used to be

I watch, but this season there are wayyyyyyy to many commercials what is that all about, I timed them last night, and the comercials almost equaled the actual show time.
I stopped watching the show when Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry got booted off. The fact that TAYLOR HICKS was chosen just shows what a crock of shit that show is. i can't stand to hear about it anymore and haven't watched it since. I also have several other friends who have give up on the show because these talentless hacks make it further than they should. does "chicken little" ring a bell? How about that annoying red headed kid a few years back that made it to the top 5?
I did watch but only yesterday I totally forgot it was starting. I was actually talking with my coworker about the show and she told me that it was indignant to have a show that I do not know if you are aware of this but all the people that they show that do not know how to sing and or brake windows when they do, have gone already through 3 interviews before they even go to be interviewed by Simon, Paula and Randi. we know because my coworker's bestfriend auditioned for it and she went through a couple of them not ending up at the final interview. This show, is very good ONCE they actually get into the good singers. The rest is just crap that I rather not watch. I think that thats why it did not start off as strongly as other years because people are tired of wachting others making fools of themselves.

I WAS FURIOUS TO WATCH THEM MAKE A FOOL OUT OF THE GUY WHO WAS WALKING AROUND IN CIRCLES, NOT PAYING ATTENTION AND CONTINUING TO SING. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS ASPERGERS (A FORM OF AUTISM) THAT MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND 5 YEAR OLD NEPHEW HAS. THIS GUY CLEARLY HAD THOSE ISSUES. I WAS SICKENED TO WATCH HIM BEING HUMILATED LIKE THAT….AND FOR THEM TO SHOW HIM TELL US HOW HIS FATHER SAID "HE HATES HIM" ….MY DAUGHTER SUFFERS WITH VERBAL ABUSE AND BULLYING EVERYDAY. I would think their ratings would be the best ever b/c of the writer's strike. I did watch last night and yes, my ears did bleed almost. The "talent" was awful, but that's not the show's fault.
i thought it was great, i love this show. im glad they started off with a great singer. i'd rather hear more of the good then the bad, but i do like to see a few of the funny horrible ones.

I watched and then had to turn it off. What is going on with Simon? The only thing interesting on this show since Chris Daughtry and Elliott Yamin is Simon cutting on people. He is being too nice this year. I think that the little old ladies who voted Taylor Hicks as the winner are now going to Bingo night, and the ones who vote for the real talent are tired of seeing Taylor Hicks and the like winning. The talent last year sucked. AI voters are not the ones who buy the albums, they are the little old ladies who vote because they feel bad for someone.

seriously…most of these people never go on to become amazin artist…the only two have been carrie underwood, and kelly clarkson. all the others have failed. they should just stop making this show…after X number of years it gets boring. Fox needs to think of some new shows.
The reason for the lack of viewers could be because the cable company "time warner" has lost FOx as a network. In our area you need to subscribe to Dish or Direct TV in order to watch Prison Break or AI. I just resort to watching prison break online and don't really care that I'm missing out on American Idol.
