Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage, The Sun is reporting.
The British paper were also the first to report the surprising news of the 22 year old's pregnancy.
This would have been the first child for Allen and her boyfriend of four months, Chemical Brother Ed Simons.
"They are in a state of shock," a source tells The Sun. "The bad news has been really difficult for them to take and they are absolutely heartbroken. Lily’s entire outlook on life changed after she found out she was pregnant. She was looking forward to being a mum and starting a family with Ed. She had turned her back on her party girl image and had turned over a new leaf. They are surrounded by friends and family are offering support. It is a really difficult time for them."
Lily's publicist has confirmed the sad news.
"We can confirm that Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage," says Allen's rep. "She and her partner Ed Simons will be making no further comment and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time."
This is just truly awful.

some of the comments here are utterly disgraceful and you should be ashamed of yourselves for even thinking them. for anyone to go through something like this must be a terribly hard thing to do. suggestions of it being her fault are disgusting and illinformed as any number of things could have been contributory factors. to treat something like this as a joke or excuse to bitch about someone is just shameful. i hope the press leave her alone for a while to let her get herself sorted out.

I'm sorry for her, but miscarriage is very very common. Humans are complicated to build, and if something goes wrong, mother nature takes care of it. that doesn't help her heartache, but she is not unusual in this and can find a lot of people to sympathize with her.

To Lily: I had 2 miscarriages last year and am still dealing with the emotion and heartbreak of it all. Just know that you did nothing "wrong" and that for some reason, you were destined to join the "secret club" of women who have lost babies. I say secret because so many women have gone through it, and nobody understands what it truly feels like except for those who have experienced the loss. It is a deep raw wrenching pain that rarely gets fully expressed or accepted completely. Every time you doubt yourself or feel heartbroken, just know that there are those of us who have shared your tears and send you comfort in this time of grief. People get so weird when you suffer losses and they usually stay away because they don't know what to say. Its very easy for those to say if she wouldn't smoke…if she took care of herself. Your judgmental attitudes toward her loss doesn't help. She lost her child. Nicole Ritchie has done worse in her life and had her healthy child. Everyone is human, Lily is in pain. Just be supportive and take your advice when/if you have kids. I am pretty sure she was making sure she was doing healthy things for her baby. It may have not been the time for her to have this child, but hopefully she will, with support from everyone.

It's called karma. If she couldn't quit smoking for her unborn child, then she got what she deserved. PERIOD. There are consequences to your actions. I've had a miscarriage and, sadly, there's a reason you don't tell people until after the 12 week mark. When Lily first announced she was pregnant a month ago, the statement said "the pregnancy is at a very, very early stage"… it's a mistake you make with your first pregnancy because you're so very excited, but it's even harder to deal with a miscarriage when you have to tell everyone it's over.

As a mother, whose pregnancy was unplanned, I can tell you NO MATTER WHAT, even if you think you don't want it, even if you weren't trying, once you find out you are pregnant, you fall in love with your baby. You can't help it. My heart breaks for her, I can't imagine her sadness, or the sadness of any mother who loses her child before she ever even gets to hold him. No she shouldn't have neen smoking, but the reality is, LOTS of people smoke while pregnant. And whether or not that contibuted to the loss, you can bet she'll always wonder and probably always blame herself. Leave her alone and let her mourn. She doesn't need to feel any worse than she already does.

Very sad news. And note to the clueless: believe it or not, females don't have a red warning light that goes off the moment conception happens. Lily was pictured smoking before she even knew she was pregnant. Once she did, she stopped (unlike half the mothers in the 1960s and '70s). The fetus was most likely genetically not able to continue to be a viable pregnancy, end of story, and a sad one at that. My condolences to her and her family….
