Denise holds court in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Her predecessor, Ken Reeves, was also gay and black.
Cambridge is the home of both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Uh, she wasn't elected mayor. The elections are for the city council. Everyone ranks as many people as they want, the the top 9 become the councilors.
The city councilors vote one of their own as "mayor". The real power in the city is the City Manager, who is unelected (nor a resident of Cambridge).

Too bad Cambridge doesn't elect their own mayor.. The city is run by the city manager. Robert Healey. The mayor is elected by the city council. Each council member gets to be mayor once. Cantabridgians do get to vote for the city council though.. They don't do much. It's all Healey.. It's a dog and pony show..

Get your facts straight. In Cambridge, we vote for City Councilors and the mayor is then chosen from those councilors by those councilors. So while Denise was elected as a councilor, she was not ELECTED mayor.
