Sarcasm, satire, art, or whatever you want to call it does not excuse the hurt it can cause. And, Perez doesn't need anyone coming to his defense. This is the nature of his business and he decided to stick himself out there just like the celebrities he writes about. This is one mom of a premature baby that is very disappointed. Imagine just giving birth and having to see your child's rib cage go all the way down to her back in order to have a breath. Imagine the breathing machine, all the tubes and all the needles in one little baby. Imagine the heart monitors going off every couple of seconds alarming the nurses that her heart is racing too fast because she is aware that she can't breathe. Imagine hearing all the other monitors in a NICU alarming the nurses that a baby is going into "code blue." Imagine only allowing to touch your daughter every two hours for only five minutes at a time because there are "touch times." Imagine your arms being raw from having to scrub the germs from hand to elbow with a plastic brush just so you can go in and see your baby.
We are truly blessed to have our daughter come home and my heart goes out to those who saw this "video" and didn't get the opportunity to place their preemie in a baby carrier and walk out of a NICU unit.
Don't quit your day job.

I don't know if you actually read these or not, but I felt compelled to write anyway. I visit your site multiple times a day and have enjoyed your irreverent humor. This wasn't funny and really shows your ignorance. What a shame. I had my oldest child at 26 weeks and she was 1lb 9 oz at birth. She fought and fought for her life, in an incubator, she was 6 weeks old before I could hold her for the first time. You have NO IDEA how unfunny that is. Her younger brothers are twins that were born at 33 weeks. We are lucky that they are all happy and healthy today. I think you should be ashamed at yourself. To mock such an important issue shows you really DO have no class. It is one thing to make fun and draw cum on celebs faces… this is a whole new level of low. You should work to make this right. DONATE REAL MONEY to the March of Dimes or do something for your local NICU. Very Disappointed.

I don't like that this comment makes me look like one of the people who can't take a joke, but I did not find humorous at all. I was born 3 months early and watching their child from behind glass created so much anguish for my family. So many premies don't make it and I'm fairly certain that anyone with a premature child in their life would not find this funny. How about lending your name to the March of Dimes? Perez, I have been an addicted reader for a long time and while I think most of which you write about is spot on, this was just NOT funny. AT ALL. I'm the aunt of two identical twin girls who were born at 26 weeks… and today, at four years old, we just found out that they both have significant hearing loss. The survival rate of preemies is a serious subject, as any family member who has watched one struggle to breath/eat/live will attest. You crossed a line.
I know you meant this to be funny, but for some of us, it hits a nerve. I'm a mommy of a preemie that didn't make it, and Perez - that's the least funny thing that's ever happened to me. I hope you make a big donation to the March of Dimes to make up for your blooper.

I hope anyone who thinks this is funny doesn't have to go through the pain and heartache of seeing your precious children spend 54 days in the NICU hooked up to tubes and machines, having surgeries and blood transfusions, and praying that somehow today they will gain a few more ounces. I applaud the people who have told their stories. My daughter also struggled for her life for 3 months in the NICU, almost dying too many times to count. Had many surgeries. Worst time of my life–wanted to kill myself to see such a small person go through such intense suffering. Now she is healthy and normal and thankfully will remember none of her very difficult beginning. Prematurity is not an appropriate subject for humor.
