It has now become apparent that the actor kept a substance abuse issue hidden very well. Ledger may have also been suffering from depression.

THIS IS REALLY SAD
Poor guy may have been on anti-depressant and/or anti-anxiety and/or anti-psychotic drugs "legally" prescribed by some quack of a psychiatrist who believes, like the rest of them, that any sad emotion or low mood needs to be treated with a freakin' pill. I've seen someone very close to me under the influence of anti-anxiety medication and the arm movements and fidgeting that Heath exhibits in this video are eerily similar to what this lovely woman went through. It's been proven for ages that these drugs cause suicidal ideation. Poor bugger probably didn't know what the fuck he was going through and not being in his right mind due to the drugs, ended it all. Unfortunately, he didn't have someone around to explain to him the havoc these poisons wreck on the mind.

That's right you muck-raking no-talent fatso, draw everyone's attention to a video of him when he was not at his best and speculate about drugs, when he's barely cold.
Death is sad, but I have not much sympathy for his death - it was selfish. He is a credible actor with a lot to offer, and any depression he may have had is most likely not as-great-as others in the world. Also, his death affects his own child - esp. at such a young age. Unfortunate, but selfish.

Unfortunately, it he IS clearly on drugs. If you've ever been around someone who has had a long term drug problem, this is what you'll see. Constant movement, wrapping the arms around eachother… the only thing steady was his face, and that's only because he forced it to be in control. Almost like he thought that he'd look normal by keeping his face in check… nevermind the rest of his body. These are signs of drug use. Yes, it is sad that the negative has to be immediately pointed out whenever something bad happens to a celebrity, but it'll pass soon, and we'll then be able to remember the other side of this: The loss of a truly great actor, father, and friend who had many great years ahead, and were sadly cut short.

first of all, i think you should all stop jumping to conclusions. it has not been said that he died of a drug overdose for sure, so until that is clarified i think you should stop assuming thigs. second, i dont get why perez is saying that he is "clearly" under the influence in thid video, and third, would just like to say that he was a very very talented actor, and it is very upsetting to hear about his death.

Looks more like a nervous habit to me, he's talking too well and clearly to be under the influence, I would think. I get fidgeting when I'm nervous too. While I will say that the video is really inconclusive, I think I also recognize some classic opiate itchies and fidgities in Heath's interview. It's looks pretty telling to a person familiar with the signs… so sad…
He looks like this in all of his interviews because it is a well known fact that he didn't like giving interviews and never made much of an effort with publicity interviews, one incident with an Australian channel he sat there peeling an orange the whole time. He clearly is NOT on drugs and reportts like this hurt his poor devestated family.

i disagree that he was clearly under the influence…. could be anxiety, ADHD, sensory issues, or a number of things combined. i'm not saying he might not have, but his pupils don't look particularly abnormal and besides the arm movements, he is well-spoken.

His eyes are clear and tracking, and he's responding coherently to the questions as they're asked. These are not characteristics of blitzed people. All the arm-waving doesn't prove anything except that he was tired and uncomfortable. There's nothing "clear" about it.
Go to YouTube or VH1classic.com and poke around the rock videos from the early '70s. There you will find some things you can call "clearly under the influence."
And, really, whether he was plowed or not in that interview or not doesn't matter much now, does it? Rest in peace, dude.

I work in TV in Oz and people who knew Heath here are saying that he was a genuine person who hated being interviewed and felt constantly self conscious when he was required to do the press side of his job. Yea he did seem like he was having alot of trouble staying still and keeping eye contact. Very possible signs. But without something like this happening I would have never noticed. Very sad. My condolences go out to his family and friends, especially Michelle and Matilda.

He didn't keep his drug use hidden. Anyone who has seen him in the last few months would know he was a user. The physical toll that shit takes on your body is overwhelming. He was a user for a loooong time. It's only within the past year or so that his physical state really started to deteriate. This interview is proof positive that he was a user. I'm embarassed for him watching it.

I don't think he looks drugged, he just looks unscripted, like he has random nervous habits like we all do. Something feels weird about this drug story. I feel like there's something more going on that we don't know yet, that someone or something else was involved (not just depression- if he was that clinically depressed he wouldn't have been able to work so recently)

I don't see that he is on drugs, maybe he has just had an incredibly long day doing interviews and he was done.
