This article from The New York Times published just two months ago shed a new light on the untimely death of Heath Ledger:
“I stressed out a little too much,” Mr. Ledger said.
He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman”franchise, “The Dark Knight.” (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.
“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.
Even as he spoke, Mr. Ledger was hard-pressed to keep still. He got up and poured more coffee. He stepped outside into the courtyard and smoked a cigarette. He shook his hair out from under its hood, put a rubber band around it, took out the rubber band, put on a hat, took off the hat, put the hood back up. He went outside and had another cigarette. Polite and charming, he nonetheless gave off the sense that the last thing he wanted to do was delve deep into himself for public consumption. “It can be a little distressing to have to overintellectualize yourself,” is how he put it, a little apologetically.

With the time difference between the US and Australia (And when he died it would have been around 3am in Perth) I really hope his family and friends found out before this was leaked everywhere. Its illegal in Australia to print a name involved in a death until the family has been informed.

What a guy to play (the joker) when you are already battling mental issues! Where was the studio in all this? Milking him for all his worth, getting what they wanted out of him, clearly seeing the toll it was taking on him but leaving him for (and I dont like saying it) dead. Maybe he should have been chosing lighter roles even though he was doing his best work in the darker stuff. I hope his death was an unfortunate accident. He had too much to live for. If not, its sad he couldnt see that.

This is truly a tragedy for us all. He was such a great actor but more important his little daughter is really missing out on the love he would have given her. Hopefully Michelle has tons of pictures to share with her.
I also hope that the pap are kind enough to leave Michelle alone during her grief. She, I assume, was already upset over the break up but now to really be a single mom must be more distressful. However, with love and support of her family and Heath's I hope she will get through. All of his fans should send their love and condolences to her and his family.

I watched Heath & a friend ride bmx bikes down 5th ave in the village just b4 xmas - everyone stopped to watch - such a handsome, identifiable guy. weaving in and out of traffic like a reckless kid. dressed in baggy pants, chuck taylors, a mustard yellow cardie & red framed sunglasses. tweed cap on backwards. he could have been 15 - instead he was a movie star. everyone was awestruck. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who, over dinner that night, told fam or friends about my exciting sighting.

A very close friend of our family died from over the counter sleeping pills, she use one night (they did not work)and two nights later was given Ambien by her Doctor. Very scary combination!! apparently Ambien is very inconsistence med!!

Re: WTF perez – Uhm…yes you can overdose on Ambien. Being a registered nurse and working in the ER, I have taken care of several people who have tried to kill themselves with ambien or accidentally overdosed on it.

Ambien, Ambien, AMBIEN!!! This stuff kills people. Coming down off it, even from evening to evening, can induce all the symptoms that CNN is attributing to drug abuse. I nearly lost my son from simple insomnia due to Ambien. He had suicidal dreams from the first night he took it. Then tried to kill himself. We were lucky, Heath was not.

Sleeping Pills kill, ambien is the worse of them all. People need to follow the same sleeping pattern vigorously every day and avoid taking prescription sleeping pills. Otherwise they develop depression, anxiety and other disorders that lead to self inflicted death. Insomina(for the most) happens to people who have erratic sleeping patterns and who overwork their bodies and minds beyond normalcy.

I don't know what the true cause of death is, there are speculations, but these doctors need to stop handing out prescriptions drugs like it is candy, celebrity or not. Until you know for sure the cause of his death you shouldn't be speculating that it was an overdose or something. If this were your brother or son or husband or father, it would be hard enough dealing with the sudden tragedy without having to deal with all the rumour and gossip. Maybe it was a heart attack? Maybe he had a brain aneurism. Nobody knows for sure so let's just say Rest in Peace and send our respects to his family, Michelle, his little daughter who will never know him.
