Scary Foreshadowing

This article from The New York Times published just two months ago shed a new light on the untimely death of Heath Ledger:
“I stressed out a little too much,” Mr. Ledger said.
He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman”franchise, “The Dark Knight.” (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.
“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.
Even as he spoke, Mr. Ledger was hard-pressed to keep still. He got up and poured more coffee. He stepped outside into the courtyard and smoked a cigarette. He shook his hair out from under its hood, put a rubber band around it, took out the rubber band, put on a hat, took off the hat, put the hood back up. He went outside and had another cigarette. Polite and charming, he nonetheless gave off the sense that the last thing he wanted to do was delve deep into himself for public consumption. “It can be a little distressing to have to overintellectualize yourself,” is how he put it, a little apologetically.

No one knows what happened yet, so Perez stop filling peoples' minds with speculation. If it was drug-related, there will be an announcement after the autopsy which is being performed tomorrow.
I feel there is a lull of sadness around the world tonight. It's truly a shame when a young person dies, but so much the more when that person is so talented and so driven. From his interviews and appearances, he potrayed a genuine and kind person.

ambien, insomnia, anxiety, cigarettes…this sort of sounds like writing my dissertation! seriously, though, when someone is under that much stress it's impossible to sustain it, and taking pills makes the problem all that much worse because your body deteriorates under all of the chemical influence. I feel so pissed that people are encouraged to take a pill to solve their problems when that's not the right solution — the real problem, as we see with all of these celebrities, is that they need rest, privacy, and loving people surrounding them but they are encouraged to do the opposite — work, network, and be public, take a pill to stay awake, take one to fall asleep, marry whoever your agent tells you to. Love, rest, and a private place to relax are what get me through the day, but it's made almost impossible for them. Some celebrities can live by their own rules and have healthy priorities, but most cannot. And I am feeding the problem by posting this on a celebrity website…

I have had chronic insomnia and a history of anxiety which started with the ability to stay asleep but not remain. That later turned into not falling asleep at all. Ambien works for some but not for others. It is easy to see that he could have taken an OTC herbal supplement because it would work on seratonin to allow him to relax. His inability to sit still could come from anxiety rather than drugs. When you go with out sleep for several days, nothing makes sense. The harder you try the worse it feels. He was probably so deseparate for that REM and deep sleep he probably did the same as Anna Nicole. When he woke up abruptly, he probably took more just to relax. Which really explains why he ordered a massage. I feel bad for him, I can relate to not sleeping and not having peace of mind. My deepest condolences to his family

I met you once. It was in the Spring of '03 at La Poubelle in Hollywood. My life was a fucking mess then, but you, you were this glowing gorgeous golden god. We only spoke briefly, but you were probably one of the hottest guys I had ever met.
How could you do this? How could you leave that beautiful little girl fatherless, throw away an amazing career, and break the collective hearts of the female population? I'm not sure if it was coke but I'm sure we'll all know soon enough.

Its so sad, your whole website is sad. Tonight I came to look at it after a friend told me you will have up to date info about how Heath passed. Its no wonder these people are tormented, I would never want to be a celeb and honestly I dont think they do either. Most just want to express themselves and to do what they are good at. They don't want the fame. They live in such sheltered paranoid states. Heath obviously learned this, so did Brad Renfro and hundreds of others in the past. Re: Hollywood needs to get more sleep – This is not an accurate statement. Once you have an extended period of insomnia, your brain never recovers from it. When I was in my sophomore year in college I had eye surgery and was prescribed steroids by my doctor. I took the wrong dosage and ended up not sleeping- literally- for 14 straight days. My mind would not shut down or off. As a result, my sleep patterns never recovered from that period of chronic insomnia. As I have gotten older, the insomnia resurfaced worse than it was previous. I have been on every thing from anti-anxiety, Ambien, Ativan, Lunesta, Trazadone just to name a few. When you develop the disease, no exercise regimen ( I work out 6 days a week- 1hour of pure cardio each workout) only use my bedroom for sleeping. Nothing helps when your body fights against you. If he was sick and couldn't sleep and suffered from a racing mind, he needed to be on a cocktail that stopped the racing mind and helped his body heal from pneumonia. Not everyone has the same solution for insomnia. So please do try to force everyone into the same treatment. Everyone's body is different, hence the reason for the so many types of therapeutic medication to help insomniacs.

Well, either he was on drugs or on the verge of a massive breakdown. Either way, it is sad that his friends and family didn't fight hard enough for his health.
