The Latest On The Heath Ledger Tragedy

Heath Ledger's body will be undergoing an autopsy today.
The actor, it has been revealed, was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his death.
He had also recently been filming in London shortly before his passing on Tuesday.
Friends of the Australian actor are saying that they saw his death coming.
"Heath has gone though a rough road of trying to get sober," reveals a pal.
Ledger's substance abuse issues could be one of the reasons for his split from Michelle Williams, mother to their two year old Matilda.
Williams is said to be devastated over the news of Ledger's passing.
Ledger was most recently linked romantically to Australian model/actress Gemma Ward.
And, although The New York Times has reported that Heath's death is likely an overdose, his family is insisting that it was an accident.
So sad. So incredibly sad.

I live in Australia and on the news they said Heath's parents only found out by hearing the news of his death ON THE RADIO!!!! It is disgusting that the media are allowed to broadcast news of someone's death without waiting for the family to be notified first!!!!! Just another example of scumbags too desperate to be the first to report, and yet another massive drawback of being famous. I really hope Britney and others can learn something from this tragedy and get their own acts together - especially Britney for the sake of her two boys. I feel so sad for Michelle Williams and her daughter Matilda, and Heaths family. At least when she is older Matilda can watch her Dads movies and interviews and see footage of her father - but soooo sad he died at just 28 years old. RIP Heath! And fuck all of you assholes who are such hideous losers you have to write evil and horrible things about someone who has passed away - you make me as sick as the media scum!

Perez, although I doubt you read the comments people leave you, I'm hoping the tragic death of Heath Ledger has opened your eyes to how serious death is, especially when children are involved. You make snide remarks and cruel jokes about Britney Spears dying and think it's funny, along with some of your readers. Death is not a joke; it's very serious. A young girl is now without a father for the rest of her life, and you are wishing death upon a mother to two young boys. Just take this happening as a wake-up call that death is a very serious matter and should not be wished-for or hoped-upon anyone.
My deepest condolences are with Heath Ledger's family and friends.
If he indeed had a pneumonia then maybe he didn't treat the disease as well as he should have and maybe that's what killed him…

I was in total shock when I saw the headline in the newspaper this morning. With people like Britney or Amy you are kinda waiting for this to happen to them (which doesn't mean it wouldn't be awful if it did!), but I was so surprised about this. He is only a year older than I am and I LOVED him in Brokeback Mountain. Wow, so sad!

Leaving aside whether it was drugs related, it is not unknown for relatively fit young men to have heart attacks. Only a couple of years ago a young Englishman I knew 27, clean and sober, was visiting his brother in NY, and dropped dead of a heart attack. he had no history of this and no-one could believe it. Or Kate Beckinsale's father Richard, who was a well known and opoular English actor. He dropped dead of a heart attack at 32, having complained previously of minor chest pains, but nothing serious. Everyone was stunned by that too. Maybe the pneumonia they said Heath had was misdiagnosed? Plus all that flying, Oz for Christmas, London for filming then back to NY at the weekend, could that have caused a blood clot? I read too that Helena Christensen said she was on her way over to see him when the news broke.

In no way do I think this was a suicide. My guess is that a combination of prescription drugs and some over the counter meds maybe even a common cold med was accidentally mixed with prescription meds and unfortunately this was the result. Heath Ledger was on par to be one of the finest actors of this generation. I considered his work very method like in that he gave himself completely to the character. His art was beautiful to watch. My prayers go out to his daughter, family and loves ones. He seemed like a truly great person, battling the same problems we all go through, but having the added stress of having to go through it in the limelight. Nevertheless, those problems didn't come to light until now.

This is such a tragic situation. i personally believe it was an accident. he was at the peak of his career and had a beautiful daughter which he loved. its so sad to loose such a great talent that really was just getting started.
