Gibson Finally Apologizes

Filed under: Heath Ledger > Star Jones

gibson__opt11__opt1.jpg

John Gibson finally showed remorse for his inappropriate mockery of Heath Ledger's death.

On his Fox News Channel show on Thursday, he said he was sorry if his comments offended anyone and also said he was sorry that Heath Ledger died and wasn't with us anymore.

His mea culpa seemed kinda forced, but that's the best you can expect from him.

Click here to watch his apology.

What do you think????

Is this enough????

THAT was an apology? He wasn't sorry for what he said, he was just sorry that people were offended. Just like a criminal who is only sorry he got caught but is not sorry he robbed a bank.

Nice to see that Faux News is still living up to their low standards of journalism

So you hate him because you say he is a "hate monger" - anyone else see a problem with that logic? And..you want the freedom to discuss gay rights and call people hate mongers (your opinion) at people who express their opinion… again - anyone see a problem with that logic?

I just emailed myword@foxnews.com and told John Gibson what a piece of shit he really is and when that old coot dies I'm going to go piss on his grave for his insensitive and uncalled for remarks……BAN JOHN GIBSON!

  5. Truthy Goosey says – reply to this

    205

Not only does he sound fake and pre-rehearsed …. but even his wording is wrong. He states that he is sorry if some took his comments as offensive and insensitive ……. He makes it sound like it is our opinion, not fact. The fact is that he was offensive and insensitive … that is fact, not opinion. In other words … he is apologizing for our opinion, not for his exact words.

also i wanna say that i think this is a totally and completely fake apology. especially at the end it sounds like he was reading this off a teleprompter… which yeah most people on tv do use those i'm sure… but i'm sure those weren't his true thoughts or feelings. he doesn't care, he's just one more disgusting homophobe in the world. also when i emailed him earlier i told him not to be mad at heath ledger cuz he (Gibson) can't get it up. hahaha he's such a nappy headed ho

i listened to the clip of his radio show, and any human being with a conscience would have known from the get go that was totally innapropriate. he sounds like a pretty selfish, coldhearted person to me. but what goes around comes around so he might wanna start workin on his karma.

What a hypocrite you are, Hilton..on the very day you get off the hook for telling lies about Samantha Ronson, hiding behind the first amendment, you have the balls to be OUTRAGED about this? Remind us, did you ever apologize to Samantha Ronson for disparaging her reputation? Huh?
Again, the first amendment only applies to liberals…conservatives be damned.

I don't buy it at all- it is a total pile of crap! I wrote a VERY strong worded email to all the addresses provided earlier because I am sick of old white men being able to say ignorant, illegal hate speech about EVERYONE else in this country. I am just sick of it!

Fuck no, it isn't enough - where the hell are Al Sharpton and all the other fame hungry "leaders" who are so ready to cry foul whenever a golf channel announcer uses a poorly chosen word with no ill intent, but then THIS ASSHOLE purposely disrespects someone who has accidentally died and throws in some homophobe shit but yet NOONE is protesting him. Fucking disgusting.

    221

Yes it was a weak apology, but at least he apologized or was FORCED to apologize. Sounds like he had a hot cattle prod up his a$$ while he was doing it, but at least he addressed the issue. I don't think we'll get much more than that. Kudos to Perez and everyone that emailed Fox and jerk head Gibson. I think it really did make a difference. Does anyone know what time this apology aired?

Why is it that there is not national outrage around what he said… I think he should receive the same treatment, both national coverage and outrage, along with commercial sponsor withdrawal, that Don Imus received. His comment are just as insulting, bigoted and insensitive.

    239

Re: JEK – of course it's hurtful, and inappropriate, rude, etc. but does an apology make it less hurtful? and why should he lie and say he's sorry? so that we can call him a hypocrite? maybe a year or several years from now he might be sorry, but how can you expect someone to do a complete 180 in such a short time? he wouldn't have said it in the first place if he was able to be truly sorry now. and judging by the reaction to his apology, it didn't really make a difference did it?

  40. Masquerade says – reply to this

    240

HIS WORD is only as good as the teleprompter he is reading from.
That being said - all of us who wrote and or called in HAD AN IMPACT.
I'd like to keep that impact going forward with boycotting Fox - oh wait - I don't watch Fox and the remote is wired to zap my husband anytime he "accidentally" tunes into to Fox news. Not really but that is not a bad idea…..

  42. kelly says – reply to this

    242

The worst apologies start with "if i offended anyone" - obviously your comments were offensive, and you should apologize no matter if it offended an individual or not. "I am sorry for the inconsiderate comments I made" is a much more effective apology than, if you were offended, sorry

  48. Drew Bindon says – reply to this

    248

Of course it's not enough. The problem with people like John Gibson is that they're hired because they have strong opinions and loud mouths. Unfortunately, those kind of things lead them to believe that just because they have the ear of the world, they can say anything they want and the only consequence is that they "might" have to apologize to the public.

There are consequences to all actions and he should not be given the type of media that allows him to influence people so greatly if he doesn't have the ability to conduct himself in a proper manner.

  49. venturaclips says – reply to this

OH YEAH - HE'S SO SORRY IF HE OFFENDED US WHO ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE. HE COULDN'T BE MORE INSINCERE. WE SHOULD RAISE HELL WITH FOX UNTIL HE IS OFF THE AIR.

  51. Mikael M says – reply to this

    251

Like anyone in the public eye who is caught saying something offensive and then has to apologize, he is not remotely sorry he said what he did. He is only sorry that he was caught doing it, that people are upset with him and that his career may be on the line because of it. Empty apology.

Same as any criminal that commits a crime - they are not sorry they did it. They are sorry they got caught. How many criminals have a change of heart and give themselves in before they get caught and the shit hits the fan?

Shame on you, dude. Resign. Retire. Go into hiding. Have a good think about what you have done. Whatever you may have felt about Heath Ledger, he had innocent loved ones who are currently shattered and you have succeeded in turning the knife in deeper into their hearts. Dispicable.

  56. CLH says – reply to this

    256

that's a PR apology. in the e-mail i sent to all the fox jerks i mentioned that the apology they were sure to make, in their own best interest, ought not to be insulting in its own right. he says here he's sorry if his comments offended anyone. that's not the point. the point is that he, and his comments, WERE OFFENSIVE. the onus is on him and his behavior, not how his (what? neutral?) comments were received. a proper apology is the only way this thing should end. i hope stern doesn't let up either. thanks for keeping us updated, perez. and i'm glad, too, that you've chosen some of your own protocols for handling coverage about heath ledger's death. might as well lead.

  57. Lilly says – reply to this

    257

Too little…too late. To me, he didnt seem sorry enough. He should be ashamed. I am a parent of two teenagers who were brought up to love and respect everyone regardless of race, religion, sex orientation, etc. Even my kids who are much younger than this idiot feel that this guy was WAY out of place with his stupid comments.

  59. Jennifer says – reply to this

    259

I can't believe that he would even bring up the death of a gifted actor and talk about it in a negative way knowing that once he opened his mouth in a negative way that it would bring a big response from the fans. I'm surprised that some have not asked for his resignation. He should do more than apologize for this. I loved all of Heath Ledgers work and he will be missed.

I hope that he gets a heart attack soon. Seriously. Slime like him are too stupid to even realize when they invite bad karma onto themselves. As for Fox news- who the hell still watches that shit? It should be called
"Hitler news". It's complete and utter nazi rubbish.

  69. Bobbi says – reply to this

    269

I'm happy that someone forced him to apologize, no matter how apparent it was. However, I would implore of you, Perez, that you follow the words of Star that you so admired. Your fans will still visit your page regularly for results of the autopsy, etc. Don't mistake ALL the constant visits for the desire to read rumors. it's disrespectful to his legacy..

  70. amber says – reply to this

Oh please, like any of you ever watched his show a day in your life. Boycotting something you never had anything to do with before is pointless. Reading these comments is like watching one giant circle jerk.

Guess what? Fox news doesn't care if you don't watch them anyway! Although all of this scandal might have brought up his ratings today. So maybe Fox should be thanking Perez…

I don't think what he said was right in anyway but to watch you people react this way is almost Naziesque. "Let's all condemn/kill/wish injury to someone who doesn't think like us!!!"

    Kind of scary.

That is the most contrived, insincere apology I believe I've ever heard. What an insensitive human being. I hope our society begins to put these hard-headed, weak-minded individuals in their place and we become more accepting of the entire gay community.

  75. Nikolette says – reply to this

    275

This is quite possibly the most insincere and forced apology I've ever seen. He could at least PRETEND that he wasn't reading from a teleprompter, or that the Fox execs weren't pointing a gun to his head (so to speak) to get this "apology" over and done with.

Fox News has no business being on the air. Any network that allows this douche and Bill O'Reilly to bitch about stuff they have NO idea about needs to go.

  76. Tabitha says – reply to this

    276

This is full of shit, he is not remorseful in the least. He simply was made to appologize. He had a chance to make amends this morning on a show, and he continued to go on his hate filled banter. He is a disgusting human being, and I hope his ass gets fired.

  77. Maria from Australia says – reply to this

To this insignificant, horrible man, from us Aussies:

YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF, I KNOW WE ARE!

    R.I.P HEATH LEDGER… CANT WAIT HAVE U HOME WHERE U BELONG….

  78. J. Thomas says – reply to this

    278

He should be taken off the air for his crass and inconsiderate comments. Heath is no longer alive to defend himself, and for someone who claims they are a conservative–he is far from it. Death by any nature is a serious event, and it should be taken seriously, not set aside in a joking manner. Heath took his work seriously, which probably lead to his untimely death. John, on the other hand, took his position as a newsbroadcaster less than serious, and he should be removed from the air for his remarks. God bless Heath! I wish I could say the same for John Gibson, an inconsiderate and uncaring jerk, who did not take into consideration the feelings of Heath's family at all–a very un-Christian thing to do! That is the harshest I can say right now.

One of the least genunie apologies I've seen in awhile. I trust when the camera stopped rolling, he had a good laugh with his crew.

Fox fire him? They'll probably give him a raise.

  84. Juliette says – reply to this

    284

His apology wasn't exactly all that sincere. Sounds to me like he was told to apologize but wasn't all that happy about it. He isn't sorry. He has no regrets and he would do it again. This should definitely NOT be the end of it.

Fucking bigot bastard. Typical of the Fox Network though. Has anyone noticed the cereal commercial that Fox has dubbed over with voices with no accents? The original commercial had a man and a woman with an English accent yet when it aired on Fox, the accents were gone.

They are a disgusting station. I have taken note of all their sponsors and will not be soliciting any of them ever again.

    288

Listen to his words…He first apologises that people took his comments to be anti-gay and inscensitive - like it was our fault that we happened to find him offensive…He then tries to charm us back by reminding us that there is a funeral going on and mentions that "those who knew him knew he was a good actor and a loving dad" I didn't know Heath Ledger but I definatly knew he was an acceptional actor and if Gibbo ever bothered to watch Brokeback mountain without making fun of it he'd know that…but then at the end he says sorry only to the people who were offended, which makes us sound like we are a minority and most other God fearing Americans found his jokes funny. I know it sounds like I'm reading alot into this, but don't give Gibbo an inch, each one of those words were crafted and layed out for him to sound apologtic but sensitive. but the most important thing people, he doesn't look the least bit sorry, he'll swagger out of that studio and think, "Well, thats another I got away with" The thing about being sorry is that you learn a lesson not to fuck up again and I gaurantee you my friends he will fuck up again, he more or less the same fashion.

RE: #235 - Aaron says – reply to this

Why is it that there is not national outrage around what he said… I think he should receive the same treatment, both national coverage and outrage, along with commercial sponsor withdrawal, that Don Imus received. His comment are just as insulting, bigoted and insensitive.
    ***********
Good questions Aaron - and it all has to do with the evolution of human rights. When women were not given the right to vote, when black people were not allowed to be integrated with whites - when gays and lesbians were not given equal rights with regard to marriage and validation as couples - WAIT - oh yeah, women can vote, blacks are integrated, and well as to the latter - guess they won't get the same respect until all of that is legally addressed and recognized. Maybe when that happens - it will be given the national attention it deserves!
I have to mention the irony in all of this - anti-gays all in an uproar when Heath was hetero and an actor playing a gay role. Crazy huh?

    NOT ENOUGH.
He needs to mean it. What the hell is he thinking, saying such horrible things after Heath DIED?

No, I do not think it was enough but, alas, he is an ass so what do you really expect? I sent him one of those emails telling him what he said was pretty much horrible and I hope everyone's letters made him feel like what he did was actually wrong and didn't just appologize because his producers made him. What a jerk.

with his damn smirk on his face.

    Rest in Peace Heath Ledger.
And support and considerations go out to Family, Friends and supporting actors and actresses who had a great chance to work with him.

Does anyone else see our first amendment rights crumbling before our eyes? Why should he (or Imus…whose comments were not racist because you can be white, or any other color, and have knappy hair and be a ho, my sister is a good example, actually, as she's both those things and also white…he just happened to be describing some black women, which in and of itself does NOT make it racially motivated) or anyone else apologize for exercising their right to free speech? Satire and profanity (among other things) are also protected under that amendment, and there's not an exception for such speech as might offend people. I'm offended by a lot of lyrics in rap music, but you know what? I just don't listen to it. You're offended? Fine. Be offended. But firing people for expressing their opinions goes against our fundamental rights as Americans. You don't have to agree with or like what he said. But he had every right to say it. The future of our rights, as provided by the first 10 amendments to our constitution, is an issue of MUCH more importance than comments made by someone I don't know about someone else I don't know. Free speech: use it or lose it!
