  9. Sasha says – reply to this

Livestock has been food for centuries and centuries. They are usually pretty low on the totem pole in that they are not as aware as let's say a dog or a dolphin. They are raised for food. And then the hide is used for leather. I don't see that ever stopping whether I eat meat or not. Does that mean we should not rally to stop the senseless killing(usually in inhumane ways) of these animals? Food(as in chicken and cow), as long as killed humanly, to me is different than wearing a fur, for instance, that suffers so much when killed, to be used as a status symbol or to look hot on Madison Avenue when there are alternative choices. Why kill these beautiful creatures for luxury, delicacies, or other selfish purposes?

Whales are mammels. They are higher on the evolutionary scale and are very intelligent and aware creatures. There's no reason to eat them or kill them. We should just start eating monkies and dogs then as some cultures do. NO THANK YOU.

Saving the whales. So cute. What kind of animal do they make the leather Hayden dooney and bourke bag out of? I guess *that* animal isn't cute enough to give a shit about. This is why I wish actresses would do what they're best at: read lines and get highlights.

  19. Sasha says – reply to this

    119

It has to do with a level of intelligence, awarness, and evolution, not "cuteness." A lot of people all over the world eat beef and chicken and they are raised for that and then they utilize the whole animal for leather, etc.. To me, totally different. Why go where you don't have to?

    122

This spoiled little brat thinks that she can just waltz into another country and tell the people there what to do and how to live just because she's a celebrity, and now she wants American politicians to help her FORCE her views on Japan? Just what the world needs–more of the US sticking its nose in where it doesn't belong! This ignorant LITTLE GIRL obviously wants another WAR!

I say send the little bitch back to Japan so they can arrest her like they want to! Let her face the people she's so damn judgmental of! If she's SO right, then why is she afraid to go back? What does that tell you about her?

Hayden and her elitist attitude makes me so SICK! Seriously, who the FUCK does Hayden think she is? She thinks she knows best, but there are actually REASONS why the Japanese have their traditions, reasons unbeknownst to a pampered princess who's never had to do a real day's work in her entire life. She wouldn't understand what it means to have to hunt for a LIVING; all she cares about is cute little animals, getting her own way, and most importantly, making herself look good in the process!

People who think she's a good role model seriously scare me. Personally, I would want MY kids to have a deeper respect for other people and their cultures! It's fine to have a cause, but she's going about hers entirely the WRONG way! You don't FORCE other people into accepting YOUR views because THAT is every bit as wrong as she thinks the hunt is.

  25. Sasha says – reply to this

    125

If people didn't stand up for what they believed and tried to help where and when they could, this world would even be more chaotic. Forcing views is one thing and that isn't right , but giving a different point of view and perspective is another Then let people decide for themselves based on what they feel is morally and responsibly right in THIS DAY AND AGE.

    127

Animals do not have a voice of their own. they share the earth with us and we should not treat them direspectfully for our own selfish reasons. What affects one, affects all. I applaud anyone who has the courage, no matter what their station in life, who helps those people, animals, and the enironment, which cannot express things themselves. Change only occur with education and awareness.

  28. Go away, Hayden says – reply to this

    128

Ah, yet ANOTHER one of Hayden's PAID BLOGGERS! Sorry, Sasha, but not everyone agrees with your employer imposing her views on another country! If she wants Japan to stop hunting dolphins, she should have gone about it RESPECTFULLY instead of interfering with their hunt and then badmouthing their traditions and culture as soon as she got back to the safety of the United States.

By offending people, you can't change anyone's mind–you only cause resentment and more determination NOT to change. You change people's minds by respecting them, REASONING with them, and convincing them that there is a better way to live–you do NOT do what HAYDEN did! Honestly, WHY should ANYONE listen to this ARROGANT girl? NOBODY is going to change anything just because Hayden said so, and that's the reality of it!

Hayden needs to quit pretending to know best when she's really only a spoiled brat whining because she can't get her own way. The Japanese are more knowledgable about THEIR OWN traditions than SHE is! If she wants people to stop hunting, what else are they going to do for a living? Princess Hayden doesn't care about that because money is not an issue for HER, but the fishermen need their JOBS to provide for their families. If she wants to save the dolphins, then what is she going to do about the PEOPLE? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, PEOPLE aren't important, only dolphins are! I laugh that POLITICIANS even gave this ridiculous little girl the time of day!

  29. Sasha says – reply to this

    129

I am definitely not a paid blogger. I agree, though, we should conduct ourselves with respect and, admittingly, I am not sure what exactly went down with Hayden in Japan. I wasn't there. The only thing I know is how I feel, and ultimately I can only be responsible for myself. There are always choices in life and I know what mine would be just as I would not CHOOSE to be a prostitute. I know it's usually generational, but I would choose something different beased on my morals and values. I do not try to push my opinions on others, only offer a different perspective and then people can be responsible for themselves. I feel all life is important, people, animals, and the earth itself and all living creatures should be treated with respect. Why does it have to be one or the other?

This is just something I'm passionate about. I do respect your opinion though, I just don't agree with some of it. However, we should respect other cultures even if we do not agree with them and you are right by saying forcing that on people only leads to resentment. We should respect everything and everyone and treat all living creatures with compassion and reverence and I think this world would be a much better place. I know some cultures eat dogs, but having two and seeing on a daily basis how knowing, intelligent, and aware they are, I could never eat them. I even think they are far more intelligent than people give them credit for. I pray for people, especially children and the elderly, animals, and the earth daily. Peace out.

Oh puleeez she's totally doing this for publicity. When she went to the Norwegian embassy in DC to supposedly plead her case she couldn't come up with a valid argument when they were trying to present her with some facts and figures. She just kept asking "Do you love animals?" over and over again and seemed more eager to be photographed handing in her protest than to actually dialog with the embassy people.

Sasha, by behaving the way Hayden does, she honestly does her cause a LOT more harm than good. For one thing, she's damaging US /Japan relations. She has offended the Japanese and now they are hostile towards her and her beliefs, and more convinced than ever that their lifestyle is correct and that she's just the ignorant American (which she is).

She has denounced Japanese tradition as being "senseless cultural traditions and lazy, bad habits that are resulting in the annihilation of our planet's resources and the extinction of our species." Now, would you blame them for taking offence to THAT? I'm sure the people who depend on fishing to support their families don't agree that it's a "senseless" tradition!

Also, remember that she said that AFTER she got back to the United States (safe and free from any prosecution). While she was still IN Japan, she apparently offended them so badly that they felt a need to issue a warrant for her arrest! That should tell you something!

The point is, Hayden went over there and she threw her celebrity status around expecting everyone to automatically listen to her because of who she is, but she is NOT a person of ANY importance outside the United States! She didn't go about this respectfully and she still isn't. If she HAD, things might have been different. At the very least, there wouldn't be a warrant out for her arrest!

I feel there's nothing "dumb" about having reverence and respect for life. The way Hayden went about it may be another story. I am not a fan of her's nor do I really know too much about her relations with Japan. ll I know is how I feel. In order to receive compassion and respect, I feel you must give it. I still stand strong in my convictions because that's being true to me and what I believe is right and that's the only way to be in this life. I really believe in Ghandi's "a nation is only as great as it treats it's animals." I believe everyone is a microcosm that adds to the whole of their town, their state, their nation, and their world. We can either add negativilty or positivity. I feel "we must be the change we wish to see in the world" and we should do that respectfully without forcing peoples with different views than us. Cause fighters can sometimes be worse than the cause, yes that is true. Just as in pro-lifers killing abortion doctors. American, Japanese, or otherwise, this is the way I feel. Peace to all.

Re: roadrunner – SOOOOO TRUE! Most of these actors hardly finished high-school, they barely have an education. Why should we bother listening to them babbling about stuff they know nothing about? Just because they're "famous"? Why should we give them more attention than to what some random guy on the street has to say? Seriously. If you need role-models, take a look at single mums struggling to meet ends, immigrants working their ass off to send money home to their families, students who spend years getting an education to contribute to society and years paying back their student loans, people spending all of the little free-time they have to help out homeless people, doctors risking their lives to take care of people in war zones. Not fucking self-absorbed ignorant lazy Hollywood brats.
Give us a favor Hayden, if you really want to make a difference, educate yourself and act outside of the limelight. BE HUMBLE!

  46. Sasha says – reply to this

    146

Whales are VERY intelligent highly evolved aware creatures. Whales and dolphins have the ability to communicate amoung themselves. I wouldn't eat them as they are not traditional livestock as dogs, monkeys, or humans are not. These animals are higher on the food chain. It also has a lot to do with the way these animals suffer when killed. I suppose it is hard to see these things if it is your culture and you grew up with this way of life. This is my opinion. Personally I think seal hunting is disgusting and I am not fond of hunting for pleasure. I'm not fond of hunting in general, but if you kill a deer and eat it, at least it is being eaten. Deers are lower on the food chain and are more like livestock, although I personally do not eat them.

  47. sasha says – reply to this

    FYI:

Last year Norway caught half of the quota they are allowed to. That´s 500 whales. In the North Atlantic ocean there is between 150-200 thousands whales - worldwide there is around 1 million whales and they are NOT in dangers of being extinguished.

  51. Sasha says – reply to this

    151

Each person is responsible for their own decisions in life so good luck on your path whatever that is and I will go my way with concern and a drive to help animals, but without judgement or hate for those who choose differently. With my decisions, even in the face of my loved, but sometimes flawed nation, I choose to have reverence for ALL life and especially intelligent life and I hope this would be the case no matter where I happened to be born in the lotto of life. Whales and dolphins may not be extinct now, but how about a few decades from now? Some species of whales and dolphins may become extinct in the near future if we aren't responsible. These beautiful animals which I feel are suffering(shout out to Gary Zukav) are an important part of the ocean's ecosystem and thus an important part of the world's and alas, important to our very well-being and survival. Just because we are supposedly the highest on the food chain doesn't mean we should be allowed to abuse and be selfish. We should handle this responsible position with integrity, reverence, compassion, and intelligence. If the tables were turned, eg. "The Planet of the Apes," I'd hope we, as the human ANIMAL would be handled as such.

SAVE THE CHICKENS!! SAVE THE COWS!! SAVE THE PIGS!!
They are intelligent, cute and sentient creatures too.
Whales don't have an inherently higher intrinsic value.
All life forms have equal moral worth.
Livestock in USA suffer their whole lives. Chickens are born with mutations in horrifying conditions, pumped with hormones, walk around in their own excrement while trampling on the corpses of other chickens, never see daylight, get their throats slit and left to bleed and get boiled to their death. At least whales can live a free life before they are killed.
    Seafood taste yummy too.

  53. Go away, Hayden says – reply to this

    153

Sasha, don't even START on the seal hunt because you obviously know NOTHING about it. I happen to live in Newfoundland and I can guarantee you right now that seals are NOT hunted "for pleasure" as you said. EVERY part of the seal is USED!
Seals also have a VERY serious problem of over-population, their number has risen by roughly 25% percent in the last few number of years and there are MILLIONS of them here in Canada. Therefore, seals are not endangered; however, there is a very real possibility of extinction of COD FISH, which is what seals like to eat. Seals eat about 5-10% of their bodyweight in pounds of fish EVERY SINGLE DAY. The truth is, there isn't enough fish to feed all these creatures, so you can either keep their population in check or you can let them ALL starve to death. Which way would you rather have it?
And it's easy for YOU to sit there and criticize people for doing what they have to do in order to survive, but Newfoundland is the poorest province in the entire country. What do you expect all these people to do? Sit back and collect welfare? Go get other jobs (you know, the ones that AREN'T HERE to get)? You REALLY need to stop assuming that everyone has the same choices and opportunities YOU do! Point blank, they DON'T.
PLEASE get EDUCATED on WHY people do what they do before you start putting them down like Hayden does! Otherwise, you're just as bad as she is!

  54. Sasha says – reply to this

    154

Yes, if you read my earlier posts I said livestock should be killed humanely. If all animals are equal, we should just kill humans too and eat them. There is a food chain and an evolutionary scale. To use my example a chicken and a dog are not the same. Dogs have a much higher level of awareness. I would never eat a dog and yet there are people who do. I said this was my opinion and wished you well. Whose pushing their ideas on who here? I respect your opinion, do you have the same courtesy for me? And respectfully, of course, you do not know me. How do you know my extent of knowledge and WHERE I'VE BEEN. Even though this is none of your business, I come from a humble family who is struggling and always struggled. It has not always been easy for me. I believe there is always a choice and as I said these are my beliefs. People do a lot of things, that doesn't mean I have to agree with them or think they are right. Prostitutes don't think they have a choice either. But I said I do not judge you. THIS IS MY OPINION. I know enough about seal hunts to know that most are inhumane. That's all I need to know. So sad that much of the world's inbalances come from humans and their carelessness. I wish you well.

I am not so invested in it though that I cannot see the other side's point of view. Hopefully in the future there will be better solutions and choices for all and that is my wish. Nothing will change without education, talks, and commitment to reverence for life. I wish you well in your path in life.

    162

YAY!!!! Even though I think she's got a bit of an ego, she's sooo much better than any of the other stars for getting so publicly involved. (golf claps) I have been upset about the Whaling/Dolphin murdering situation for quite awhile… I cried when I saw her sobbing on the beach. I really hope that the ambassadors take her (& the organization she works with) seriously, and that it will bring about some change.

    163

OK, this is my last e-mail on this subject. I could throw around my own statistics, but I'd like to keep this on a more personal level. I have been to Canada many times. I have family that has dual citizenship with Canada. I think it's a beautiful country. I am not only picking on Canada, etc. with whales or dolphins. My own country has it's own issues regarding the treatment of animals and I am for humane treatment of ALL animals everywhere. I understand the plight of the struggling fisherman and the like whose livelihoods depend upon these animals. I can relate to a degree and have empathy for them because I care about all living beings, including my fellow humans, who supposedly are the most intelligent animals on earth.

  64. sasha says – reply to this

    164

As for Hayden, I really do not think her trip to Japan ruined US/Japan relations. That's a bit extreme and giving her a lot of power. However, I understand the fact that one should be respectful of customs and culture when entering another nation. And I feel Hayden's approach may not have been the best, but I do not know because I wasn't there. I realize the problems that go along with cause fighters. Having said this, if you do not make efforts for change that's the same as saying you want everything to stay the same. I know I am speaking idealistically. I know change will not happen overnight and things are not black and white. But if people throughout history did not look for other solutions and more civilized ways of doing things we'd still be living in the Medieval times.

I am not saying for families to not work and not feed their families, but I am saying we should look to progress for the sanctity of life- ALL life. No, I am not for animals skins being used by designers for clothes. No, I am not for greedy profits at the expense of animals. Those are my beliefs that I am entitled to. And thank God there are those who give a voice to beings who do not have one. Animals are suffering because of a lot of the imbalances we caused to this planet. We have abused the earth by overfishing, polluting, killing at will, and stripping land away from animals. Then when nature should be taking care of things there's so much imbalance that we have to step in and thin out herds.

We owe it to them as far as I'm concerned to look for other solutions and the most humane treatments. I am for the preservation of animals and our earth because I am for the preservation of us. Simply that. This earth is already starting to respond with natural disasters and weather changes. I think it's only going to get worse. we each are ultimately responsible for our actions and i am not trying to change anyone's minds or push my beliefs on anyone. I'm just giving my point of view. I think about future generations, not just me. In conclusion, I wish peace for this earth and for those who I agree and disagree with. Peace for all life.

Re: aryan – I'm not even going to justify that with an answer.

Hayden was also spotted at the Barack Obama/Kennedy family rally at American University on Monday… Props to her for making the effort to be politically involved! What a role model… finally!
