I don't know why Latina is giving her the cover after everything she said about her race earlier.. Wether she raised as an "American" or not, like she says.. She is still half hispanic, and she should be proud of that.. This is a shame.

I missed 2 issues of my subscription with Latina, got the Jan issue with this new editor and all I could think was…WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS MAG?! I was shocked at the lack of their usual wit-filled, informative articles, instead it was the smalled issue I have ever seen and it was littered with ads about friggin Avon, Partylite, and many more home business "opportunities" I was shocked and even more so now, definately considering NOT renewing my subscription after this stupidity!

Oh please. Get over it Perez. I'm half Mexican too and I've often felt like Jessica growing up. I'm proud of my roots, but that doesn't mean I feel fully accepted by either race. I don't speak fluent spanish (although I want to one day) and I'm lighter than most Mexicans, but darker than most white people so I've always been looked at as different by both races. It's a very lonely feeling and I understand how she felt. She was just saying that she is mixed, but raised as an American so that is what she identifies herself as the most, same as me and plenty of other mixed people. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm still extremely proud to be half Mexican and part of that culture, but when it comes down to it, I was born and raised in the USA, making me an American first. I get Latina magazine and Jess being on the cover definitely won't make me stop reading it.
Jessica Alba is a superb choice for the cover!!… She is straight-up honest about the break from cultural in her family, and how it affected her. Instead of taking the easy way out by playing teh "oh, ya I'm hot & latina", she told the hard, unpopuular truth__.

For all of you saying to give her a break, ur right in saying that we should valued that she tried to be honest. But there are number of things that you don't understand.
The issue is how she expressed her personal traumas/cultural separation, come accross as ignorant, as if her family was embarrased to be Latino and that speaking Spanish made them like inferior. Well, her grandpa who is the one who set the family "tone", is the most ignorant of all. So of course, other Latinos are going to take offense on that. BTW most latinos that I know who are not embarrased of their heritage speak both ENGLISH and SPANISH fluently.
So, in summary, her words were
1. insulting to large segment of the Latino population who is American and proud of their latino heritage
2.Statements like that are a huge disservice to many other "honey" shade girls that looked up to her and the message she sent about "fitting in".
3. It's completely hypocritical and greedy of her to represent Revlon cuz they pick her because of her mixed ethnicity. For Caucassian representation, they would certainly would have not thought of her.
