my family came from another country. we have been here 2 generations and consider ourselves AMERICAN. that doesn't mean we are denying who we are ethnically. Perez you're way off base here. None of the quotes you posted show that she denies her latin heritage, just that she is sincere about the struggle that anyone of mixed heritage experiences. The struggle of people of black and latin heritage is more criticized because it is more visible. Should you find out that Britney or Paris is third generation British, would you hate them for identifying with American culture? Of course not, because they look American. I sympathize with Jessica and with anyone else that has to deal with this double standard. The answer is to learn to accept your own personal history in your own personal terms.

If she has self esteem issues than she needs to keep that to her self. How does she feel knowing that so many young Latin girls who looked up to her now feel that she is ashamed of who she is.
