I wasn't even born in this country- am hispanic- brown and all- I speak Spanish mostly to my parents. I have no "latino pride." Latinos come in all shapes, colors and persuasions. I am proud of my parents, but they have no latino pride either. They were too busy trying to work and educate their children so they wouldn't be second class citizens as they had been in the country of their birth. It's this country I'm proud to be a part of. This country gave my parents unimaginable good fortune. You should all be thankful you're in America. take advantage of it and educate yourselves and keep making trying to make it a better place.

Does anyone believe this is the real reason for Perez's obsession with Alba?
Her comments (when taken in context or read by anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature) were clearly Alba explaining why she doesn't like being pidgeon holed as a "Latina actress".
She's absolutely right to say that there are many other actors who have a much closer connection to another land (ie a parent being born O/S) but because they're blonde or blue eyed their not expected to ONLY portray characters with that background.
Why are Eva Mendes, Jessia Alba and Eva Longoria LATINA actresses but Katie Hiegl isn't a GERMAN actress, Madonna isn't an ITALIAN singer and basically NO-ONE with a Euro heritage is expected to qualify their existence with an ethno-tag.
Alba doesn't appreciate the assumption that someone with Mexican heritage should ONLY be viewed in that tiny limiting way.

Let's be clear on what "American" is: It is a nationality. You are an American either by birth, or by becoming a citizen through the application process. To be an "American" means that you are a citizen of the country of the USA. Makes sense, folks? Okay, now bear with me as this may get a little more complex for many of you: "American" is not an ethnicity or a racial group. But the majority racial group in America is still Caucasian. That means the majority of Americans (people who are citizens of the country of the USA) are of the Caucasian race. The predominant ethnic make-up of Caucasians is based upon English heritage (i.e. the English and the Irish). Now Latinos are folks who have ethnic heritage that originates from Central or South America. How little or much Latino blood do you need in your family line to be (or not to be) considered Latino? It's debatable. But in the case of Jessica Alba — she is most definitely Latina. She is an American, who, specifically is of Latina ethnicity. I know white Americans who are proud of their German, Irish, or Polish roots, and there is nothing wrong with feeling that way. Unless you acknowledge, respect, and understand who you are and what makes you unique — whether you are white, black, Asian, Hispanic, Latino, or other, then you will truly not understand and appreciate your uniqueness and positive role in the American fabric.

Perez, for all your so-called insight you obviously didn't understand the gist of what she was trying to say in that one interview you're bent on crucifying her for. She was obviously very proud of the accomplishments of her family as Latinos making their way in the world, and she was speaking sincerely from the standpoint of a cross-culture kid who has been successfully integrated into the racial melting pot that is America. Many second and especially third-generation immigrant kids no longer speak the language of their grandfathers (if this was so, English would have become a tertiary language long ago). And that's the whole point. Most people came to the United States to become a part of the American Dream, to BE American. So how can you penalize someone like Jessica Alba for being more American than "Latina?" I am certain that her grandfather believes that she is the fruit of his successful American Dream.
