The Hollywood community is still very upset at Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.
A behind-the-scenes campaign happened aggressively on Wednesday to pressure the shows not to broadcast that Heath Ledger video everyone was talking about.
Several top publicity companies threatened to never give the shows access to their star clients again. They caved.
However, we're told that many are still upset because ET and The Insider made it seem like Heath was doing drugs in the video.
He was not, a person who has seen the full clip tells us.
Additionally, when the shows aired a preview of the video, they showed a clip of Ledger saying, "I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years."
However, what they didn't show you was that afterwards, he said , "and that's why I got this tattoo [an M, for daughter Matilda] to remind me never to smoke weed again."

When did it become ok to completely cross the line of respectable behavior and responsible/accurate reporting? Cleary, media outlets make decisions based on financial gains, but the non-stop and intrusive coverage of Heath Ledger’s death and how his family is reacting to the terrible news is downright despicable. This man died tragically and his grief-stricken family and friends are no doubt devastated. It is completely inappropriate to cause further trauma to the departed family and loved ones by shoving cameras in their faces and reporting their every move.
Exploiting another person’s pain is not news, it’s downright evil. There will always be the people on the peripheral who try and sell scandalous stories to the media outlets as a way to make money. They will never go away and the money they collect will always be dirty, but media outlets should act more responsibly. People die tragically every day. No matter who they are, the pain of a loved one’s death is raw, completely unsettling and takes a long time to wrap one’s head around. Tabloid reporting should be left in the trash and anything scandalous said after someone has died is hearsay. How can someone make claims about a man who’s not even around to defend himself??? And who cares what he did before he died and how he might have died, this man is DEAD and deserves the right to rest in peace.
For the love of christ, people need to leave Heath be. Funny how this video comes out now because he suddenly died. Why wasn't it out 2 years ago? It suddenly pops up now? And why was someone secretly taping him in the first place? To get some dirt to sell? They could have leaked it years ago to try and damage his career yet they leak it now after he passes when his family and friends are trying to mourn him in peace. Why leak it now that he's dead? It's sick..whoever took this video to only leak it now to make him look like a giant drug addict after he tragically passes away is disgusting. I love how ET conveniently cut the clip about him smoking, but failed to show him saying his daughter was the reason he wouldn't anymore…very clever. Anything for ratings. Sure, I think it's already established he had some problems and drug troubles, as most of Hollywood does. Is that so surprising? But at this point I really don't think any exaggerrated or misunderstood BS will make his family, friends or fans think any less of him. Heath will continue to be very loved by many people, including myself.

The video is nothing as it is portrayed. Heath is at party, and like most parties there are elements that may be unbecoming to others. Heaths mistakes are his own, but they do not change the fact that he was a beautiful person, with unbelievable talent. Why are people so focused on tearing his life apart? Is that how you think you will find answers? In the video Heath makes polite conversation and at moments even seems akward to be there. There is nothing in the video to make you think less of Heath or his charachter. He speaks fondly to the party goers of both Michelle Williams and there child. Why must a storyline be created that doesn't exsist? PLEASE Remember Heath Ledger for what he was- an inspiring soul, with a beauty for life beyond his years, a courageous and talented actor, and a compassionate and dedicatd father. Its time to give peace to his loved ones, and to let Heath rest there. We will miss you Heath.

Heath Ledger, who died January 22 in a New York apartment, suffered from an addiction to sleeping medication, a source close to the situation confirmed to MTV News.
Part of Ledger's reluctance to enter rehab in the months leading up to his death may have been a reluctance to "prove his ex right," the source told MTV News.

com - It's not about being surprised about the news or the video, it's the way it's been handled. He's gone…what's the point of airing something like this one week after he died when his family is grieving. What's the point of airing it ever….oh yeah…to make a buck. That's all it's about.
It's not about people/fans thinking Heath was a saint (though I'm sure some did and put him on a pedestal). No matter what he did in the past, it doesn't change the person he was. The fact he was such a private person makes this story even more heartbreaking. Leave him alone.

BEVERLY HILLS , Calif., Jan. 31 (UPI) — Psychotherapist Rebecca Roy said troubled young female Hollywood stars are treated more harshly by the public and media than their male counterparts.
"Heath Ledger's death is being treated with kid gloves, for instance, yet Britney Spears is afforded no privacy at all in dealing with her issues," Roy, a former Olympic coach who now calls herself "The Industry Therapist," said in a statement issued Thursday. "It's as if there are jackals at the gate just waiting for her to commit suicide. It's a travesty."
Roy argued that high-profile women suffering from mental health or substance abuse issues should be afforded the same respect and privacy as Ledger or Owen Wilson, who reportedly attempted suicide last year.
Roy said it seems to her that male stars get a pass when they are in trouble, but female celebrities are penalized if they show they have real human needs and problems.

the Australian media were slagging off Heath before he died. Especially channel 7 after an interview he did with them. Then he dies - all of a sudden the media love him again. WTF!!! Now another media outlet - Channel 9 - are giving releasing video of Heath at a drug party.
Same with Steve Irwin - his show wasnt shown on TV here in Oz (only occassionally in the arvo on weekends) - he was seen as a joke. Then he kicks the bucket — and the media love him again!
I think this whole video thing has been blown way out of proportion. First of all, he wasn't doing drugs in the video. And, all he was talking about was smoking weed. Really, who hasn't smoked weed a time or two? All he kept talking about was his girlfriend and daughter. And, we all know he had problems sleeping. That is one thing that seems to be fact. Who's to say that he was up one night and met these people, went to their room to talk and had no idea what was going to happen in that room. He said it him self "I shouldn't be here". I think he realized his mistake once there. He was probably just looking for company during a time of no sleep. If you know what it's like not to sleep, you know where his mind probably was. Lonely and looking for someone to talk to. Give Perez a break. He just reports the celebrity gossip like all of you expect him to do and that's what you come here for. The reason people are outraged is because he's gone. Maybe things weren't publicized when he was alive, but what's the point now. I'm sorry but they did not do this to help people. They did it for $$ acting under the cover that it might help someone. People don't need another sad story to see the light. It would be nice if good did come out of this (like Justin Chambers going into get help for sleeping issues - maybe Heath's death will help some people, but it won't be because of this video). My goodness, the tox reports aren't even in. Even if he did drugs in the past, he could have been clean for a while and he can't even defend himself against these tapes. No matter what the case, he didn't deserve to be remembered this way.

I was watching the video and it seems to me that they cut out EVERYTHING except for the couple of comments he makes that may make it seem as if he's a huge drug addict. In a perfect world people would boycott those shows and they would be cancelled. To me, Heath seemed like a good guy with some medical problems who maybe did some wrongs in his past, but got over them when he brought a child into the world. He was a dedicated actor and father, and he should be remembered for that.

Yes I watched this video to see what all the fuss was about. once again ET and THe Insider overreacting for nothing, he just sat their and drank a beer. He was AROUND people doing drugs but never did them so it's irrelevant. Also i would like to point out that it IS 2 years old.

How horrible that they would've done that. And he was only speaking of smoking marijuana, which is damn near harmless by comparison to…. damn near everything else.
OMG people are disgusting that they would cut out that last part UGH! First off it's weed it may make people stupid but it doesn't make them die. He was obviously overexaggerating I think he started to smoke weed when fame began (when he was 20) but at 8! Come on he was overexaggerating we all do it, don't take it literally he was just trying to illustrate that it was for a long period of time.
If he smoked weed for 20 years an at the time of the video he was 26 that would mean he smoked since he was a 6 year old until 26 if he just quit… I´m confused!!!???!!
Current Affair programmes showed the short teaser vid of this video here as well and I am with you Perez, any numnut can see it for what it's worth. I only saw those snippets and even I could tell he wasn't doing anything. The promo kept saying 'he was in a room full of drugs and people taking them' but that's where they stop. He wasn't actually doing anything just unfortunate enough to be at a party where some money grubbing ahole thought it would be good to secretly film him and ask him questions deliberately to prove who he was just so they could sell it someday. Just leave him alone already. Nobody knows what caused his death and all these f'ing gossip programmes and mags are just trying to make money by saying what they would like to be the cause just to stir things up. Why can't someone just die of natural causes or sickness, why do drugs have to be involved when it is someone famous.!!! God Perez, kick their arse for me, I can't do it from over here. (oz).
also keep in mind that he said quite a few times "that he shouldn't be there" and that "his girlfriend would give him sh-t"……….ECT
Ok all those people mentioning the 5 joints a day for 20 years thing. That was an obvious overexaggerating, he was just trying to animate that he did smoke joints often for a prolonged period of time ( I would guess at the earliest when he first reached fame- at about age 20). We all do that overexaggerat to prove a point like "OMG I've been waiting for 5 hours" (it's only been 30 minutes). Also weed has not killed anyone- yes it can make you slow if used for a LONG period of time but otherwise nothing to speak of. And possible lung issues but he smoked anyway so.
First of all - let's call a spade a spade. Heath was doing drugs (as many people do) and it probably had something to do with his premature death. It's horrible! It's a waste of his talented young life, but I think it serves as a reminder to others, myself included, that doing drugs is really bad for you - and could KILL you. And his comment about smoking five joints a day for 20 years - most Hollywood actors lie about their age - and Heath probably did the same. He's probably a lot older than 28.
This just goes to prove how slimy these entertainment shows are, that they only pulled out becuase they would not be allowed access to some stars. They don't care about Heath, his family, or anyone else, all they want is their ratings and their "stars". Lets boycott these motherfuckers!
