Paparazzo quits in protest at Britney 'hounding'
When paparazzi have a crisis of conscience over the wellbeing of their celebrity prey, events have clearly reached a serious level. So it is with Britney Spears, the troubled pop star and America's favourite tabloid fodder, who was back under psychiatric evaluation in a Los Angeles hospital last night after the latest in a series of highly publicised meltdowns.
As the singer's family and manager bickered over the right to direct her treatment after a court-ordered commitment into mental health care, a British photographer who has quit the chasing media pack warned the hounding could kill her.
Nick Stern has resigned from Splash, a Los Angeles-based, British-owned celebrity picture agency, in protest at the "aggressive" tactics employed in pursuing Spears, and predicted tragedy.
"Directly or indirectly, Britney is going to come to some horrific end, or a member of the public will," he said. "It's not what's being done, it's the way it's being done. As she continues to deteriorate psychologically, I just can't see a positive way out."
The biggest threat, Stern said, came from the high-speed convoy of photographers' cars and motorcycles that follow Spears' every move through Los Angeles. The pursuit reached a new frenzy in the early hours of yesterday when the paparazzi tailed an ambulance and police escort taking the 26-year-old singer to hospital for the second time this month.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the trail of emergency vehicles that took Spears to the UCLA Medical Centre stretched longer than a football field. In an operation conducted with military precision, police and medical crews spoke secretively of "delivering the package", in a failed attempt to throw photographers off the scent.
"The paps are completely out of control," said Stern, 43. "It's not unusual to have 20 or 30 cars pursuing her at any one time. It's become acceptable to drive at 80mph down the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic. I was horrified at what goes on. It's so aggressive, there are fights and crashes and slashed tyres. I felt I needed to say something."
Spears has exhibited increasingly bizarre behaviour in the past 12 months and has lost visitation rights to her two children, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, fathered by her estranged husband, Kevin Federline. The two are engaged in a custody battle.
After the singer's admission to hospital yesterday, a judge at the Los Angeles county superior court signed an order committing her to a mandatory three-day evaluation, after which the stay could be extended to 14 days.
According to sources, Spears' family had planned the intervention for two weeks with the cooperation of the police and hospital but against the wishes of the singer's manager, Sam Lutfi. In recent weeks, friends and family have said they believe she is suffering from bipolar disorder, which is characterised by abrupt mood swings, or other psychiatric problems.
The circus continued in the hospital corridor early yesterday with a heated argument between Lutfi and Lynne and Jamie Spears. According to the celebrity website tmz.com, doctors are now "cooperating fully" with the singer's parents.
In London, meanwhile, the Rambert Dance Company has produced a music and dance interpretation of Spears' troubles, Meltdown, that it intends to perform tonight at the Southbank Centre. The show ends with her carried off by dancers dressed as doctors in white coats.
I have seen so many comments about Britney not wanting to get better, or about her deserving whatever happens to her becuase her behavior has been out of control. People need to understand that part of being mentally ill is that you don't always have control over your behavior. So she may "want" to get better on some level, yet have no ability to organize her behavior and pull it together.
Nobody needs to judge Britney for her behavior right now. She needs support and encouragment to stay in treatment. She needs to be left alone to recover in peace. And she needs to be given the opportunity to rebuild her life and to reclaim her most important role…. mama to those two sweet, innocent boys.
Perez, please give Britney a break. How about changing your tone and consistently encouraging Britney to get help or praising her when she makes a good decision, such as going to the hospital for treatment? Do something good, Perez. It's not all about fame and fortune. And by supporting Britney you might help some of your readers who suffer from mental illness.

If a child engages in sexual behavior with an adult — it's rape. Even if the child consents to the behavior. Why? because they do not possess the maturity or the mental wherewithal to make or have the right to make that decision.
Due to Britney's illness she does not/did not possess the ability to make a rational, mature, sound decision.
We tend to judge others based on what WE would do or based on the assumption that they are operating at full mental capacity.
But just like that child who is not legally, emotionally, mentally equipped to make decisions such as engaging in certain behaviors — Britney is NOT equipped AT THIS TIME to make rational decisions.

Well finally. I mean honestly guys I don't care what the courts in England said about it, those paps over there directly caused Princess Di to lose her life. If her driver hadn't been trying to avoid paps then he wouldn't have driven so fast and lost control. Now Britney is no Princess Di but this kind of behavior has got to stop. I don't think the headline on this post is fair….she's not weak or weak willed apparently she has an illness. This is a not a moral thing…it's biochemical. She needs some help and hopefully she will get well but Perez, be fair, she's not weak. She's just not well and this whole thing is really sad. And I am a sad person for even following it to the degree that I do..but I follow it because somehow in a very twisted way it makes me feel better because I see someone else going through something like this and I know I'm not crazy. I'm just human.

when you have a mental illness things dont make sense things that you know need to be done become a challenge it is not that you dont care its just a challenge to make the right decisions to make any decisions what so ever… it really is sad. i know from life, i know from my life.
its not because you are a bad person, you just dont know how to function sleeping, becomes something you lack so much of, bills pile up, normal everyday decisions become a chore, not because you dont want to but because you just cant i really cant explain it! there comes a point where you say okay i need help you go get the help then start to feel "normal" again and then start to slack off in treatment… its really hard to face that you may have to take medication for the rest of your life, and that maybe its something you have passed on to your children. So you stop and find other things to medicate yourself with, then when you spiral you spiral so quickly and so much further out of control. its hard to admit you have a problem, and to face all the things that go along with it.

Re: because I think… no wait I know … – Finally somebody with some compassion and understanding here. i was bashing Britney until I heard she would go days without sleeping and that hit home. I would go weeks on a few hours sleep during my manic phases and then just shut off and be in bed for days when I crashed. Ive never used drugs in my life. And you're right, as soon as you start t feel better you think you can conquer the world and drop your meds. Like I said, it will be a long haul for her if she is diagnosed, and I hope she's not. I hope she's just abusing drugs because that is easier to manage if she goes to rehab and therapy. Fortunately my girls have not inherited the disorder. But Lithium has been a blessing in my life and I just faced the fact that i'd have to be on meds all of my life and that was the hardest part to deal with for me. But it's the only way ive been able to have normalcy in my life and take responsability for my actions and desicion making, but it was not an easy path. She needs to get out of LA, and no matter what, her parents have to be suffering and can only want the best for her. regardless of the mistakes they've made in parenting, I'd challenge anybody here to say they have perfect parents or are perfect parents. There's nobody in this world that could want only the best for my children more than my husband and myself. I feel in my heart that Lynne and jamie want the same for their girls.

Perez the comment about adderall it is java in a pill it does for people who truely have adhd right the opposite of what it does for those who abuse it as adults. My son cannot be still and has loggorhea without it he is a honors student and is a good child but w/o adderall he would not be able to sit still in school. you shouldn't comment about what you do not know but obviously you must know about abusing the perscribed drug to do what cocaine does it would take alot of adderall to do what cocaine does and it does not have the euphoric affect that cocaine does. when used appropriately it does what is need in most cases.

My sources tell me that Britney will be OK and the help she is getting now is going to make the difference - the one caveat is that her family needs to get her out of LA and back home to Kentwood- it is there that my 2008 prediction rings true! Britney and Kevin agree to work things out and they move back in together but this time in Kentwood - they agree to a reality show for money, big BUX!

I am not a fan, never have been, but I can say that the way she is hunted can not be good for anyone. One day, she will return to the community as a freshly functioning adult. Does anyone honestly think that the paps are gonna let her be. No! They will be right there just like they have been, hunting her. Tracking her every move. Her poor babies. Stuck in such a hard place. She has no one to teach her to be a mother. Her own mother is and idiot to say the least. Left alone with more money than anyone would know what to do with, and just swinging. Out in the middle of everyones grasp. Money and greed have done this to her. That and the fact that no one has ever told her NO. Public figures do not have it better than us Normal people. They have to pay for privacy and people to protect them from the hunters. This past week in Saskatchewan, an Indian man took his kids outside when it was 50 below. He was so drunk, he doesn't remember what happened. His 2 daughters froze to death. The RCMP are laying criminal charges. "They always get their man."

AND loss of sleep is nothing to play with I work nights sometimes double shifts from 11p.m to 7am then the double is from 11pm to 3pm the days are 5 consecutive days straight. Sleep during the day is nothing like nocturnal sleep by the fourth night If I haven't had but two to three hours of cat napping going back to work the fith night is so hard and the fatigue is unreal then I can't sleep untill the sixth night and then it is only 5 to 6 hours of uninterrupted sound sleep. the seventh night i sleep in two to three hour intervals untill i go back to work the next work day. Mothers who have children and activities especially single parents who do it all, with horomonal inbalances and mentstral periods living can get very difficult and walking zomby like sleep depravation is nothing to play with and often medication to make you sleep when used over a period of time u become ammune to it's affect. anyone that is human in your own spiritual pray for her I can't wait for her to be reunited with her children that is the medication that will be most needed. To you and especially with callouse P ass and others judging her may seem she does not care. BUt in the soul of her heart she does. K-fed has made her numb and unable to trust or care and the pap hasn't helped u don't have to pursue her.

FINALLY someone got smart and realized that the photographers have a lot to do with the demise of Britney. Think how you would like it if you were staulked and prodded every single waking moment of your life.
