Paparazzo quits in protest at Britney 'hounding'
When paparazzi have a crisis of conscience over the wellbeing of their celebrity prey, events have clearly reached a serious level. So it is with Britney Spears, the troubled pop star and America's favourite tabloid fodder, who was back under psychiatric evaluation in a Los Angeles hospital last night after the latest in a series of highly publicised meltdowns.
As the singer's family and manager bickered over the right to direct her treatment after a court-ordered commitment into mental health care, a British photographer who has quit the chasing media pack warned the hounding could kill her.
Nick Stern has resigned from Splash, a Los Angeles-based, British-owned celebrity picture agency, in protest at the "aggressive" tactics employed in pursuing Spears, and predicted tragedy.
"Directly or indirectly, Britney is going to come to some horrific end, or a member of the public will," he said. "It's not what's being done, it's the way it's being done. As she continues to deteriorate psychologically, I just can't see a positive way out."
The biggest threat, Stern said, came from the high-speed convoy of photographers' cars and motorcycles that follow Spears' every move through Los Angeles. The pursuit reached a new frenzy in the early hours of yesterday when the paparazzi tailed an ambulance and police escort taking the 26-year-old singer to hospital for the second time this month.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the trail of emergency vehicles that took Spears to the UCLA Medical Centre stretched longer than a football field. In an operation conducted with military precision, police and medical crews spoke secretively of "delivering the package", in a failed attempt to throw photographers off the scent.
"The paps are completely out of control," said Stern, 43. "It's not unusual to have 20 or 30 cars pursuing her at any one time. It's become acceptable to drive at 80mph down the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic. I was horrified at what goes on. It's so aggressive, there are fights and crashes and slashed tyres. I felt I needed to say something."
Spears has exhibited increasingly bizarre behaviour in the past 12 months and has lost visitation rights to her two children, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, fathered by her estranged husband, Kevin Federline. The two are engaged in a custody battle.
After the singer's admission to hospital yesterday, a judge at the Los Angeles county superior court signed an order committing her to a mandatory three-day evaluation, after which the stay could be extended to 14 days.
According to sources, Spears' family had planned the intervention for two weeks with the cooperation of the police and hospital but against the wishes of the singer's manager, Sam Lutfi. In recent weeks, friends and family have said they believe she is suffering from bipolar disorder, which is characterised by abrupt mood swings, or other psychiatric problems.
The circus continued in the hospital corridor early yesterday with a heated argument between Lutfi and Lynne and Jamie Spears. According to the celebrity website tmz.com, doctors are now "cooperating fully" with the singer's parents.
In London, meanwhile, the Rambert Dance Company has produced a music and dance interpretation of Spears' troubles, Meltdown, that it intends to perform tonight at the Southbank Centre. The show ends with her carried off by dancers dressed as doctors in white coats.

Dear Britney - I know that your life seems like chaos, madness - you have had so much to put up with . You've never had any real firends since you became fameous - you don't know what ' normal ' is. Of course you cracked - anyone would - no one can take that kind of pressure. A
t first it seemed like fun and that you had so many friends - but now you know that they never really cared about you. Although being in hospital may feel awflul - don't see it like that honey- see this as a time to get strong and happy again - and take as much time as you need.

Everybody seems to agree that the paparazzi are a lawless bunch of stalkers putting the lives of celebrities and the public at risk. But if we didn't buy the magazines or watch the shows that buy photos or video from the paps then they wouldn't have a market. It's time to start boycotting these publications and shows. I stopped buying magazines a long time ago because most of what they write is bullshit - you find that out when you read an old mag in a doctor's surgery - and I've turned off every entertainment show since they started showing the circus outside the funeral parlour where Heath Ledger's body was taken. Also because of the ridiculous and insensitive speculation about his death. So he did drugs - the big surprise would be that he didn't in LA. People really need to start enjoying their own lives instead of living vicariously through these celebs.

I think that Britney is a very responsible person except papparrazzi won't ever leave her alone. Every minute of every day there are papparrazzi chasing her around. There are things on britneys record that poeple should not be nosy about like the fact that she shaved her head. Maybe she had to for a movie or because she found it comforting to wear wigs . But what ever the reason is why she does things like this is noone's bisnis.

Thank God something is finally being done to help this poor woman. My heart goes out to her and her family. I believe that her family (parents) have always wanted to help her but were unable to get close to her do to her associates. My hope is that she will be assessed and put on the right medications as I believe that once she is on the right meds. everything will work out for Britney and she will beable to be the loving mother I know she wants to be. As for everyone saying this is Britneys last chance I don't believe that. She is not responable for her actions as she is not in her right mind and has been unable to understand this therefore people will always be there for Britney you cannot punish someone for there disability. I hope Brit does get the help she needs and soon.The sad thing about all this is people fail to realize underneath her "Star status"she is a human being and will make mistakes like us all,only in her case it's closely watched by the rest of the world.I would certainly say I'm a sain person but I do realize that mental illness is really a ILLNESS and it needs to be treated,and when I say treated I mean by doctors and professionals in this field.I really feel bad for her,I know she's done alot of not so good things,but haven't we all did something bad in our lives?I think she should be left alone by the media so she can get well again,if not I feel she's gonna do something really terrible to herself and who will take the blame for her doing this???

Brit's behaviour is actually quite normal if you think back to what happened to "Princess Di" in regards to losing her children and being chased by the paps.
Have the paps and the rest of the world not learned from the experience of "Princess Di" that being a celebrity can be a very scarey place to be when your children, your life and your every move becomes everyone elses business but your own. For God sakes paps, people of the world give the woman a break, give her some space.
