Michelle Wiliams is speaking publicly for the first time since the tragic death of Heath Ledger.
The grieving actress' publicist released a statement on Friday. It reads:
"Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him."
Our thoughts are with her.

ENOUGH about him…he was too selfish to try to make sure he would be alive long enough to watch his little girl grow up. I don't think he's a bad guy, but he was certainly no Saint. She's going have to spend the rest of her daughter's childhood being both a mom and a dad, and having to explain every day (until Matilda is old enough to understand) why her dad can't be there. They may not have been a couple anymore, but they were still amicable parents, helping each other to raise their child together. So shut your fucking mouth.
I owe Michele an apology. Although i wish she and Heath could have worked things out better and more closely i understand the position shes been in. and its not an easy one. I hope everyone has learned something from this. Michele will do fine in the future. Shes smart. And by the way some horrible things have been said about her… actually all of Heaths girlfriends and love interests look incredibly similiar. Michele has taken a lot of heat because everyone is just so dismayed by his death. I hope more details are disclosed so people can learn from this. It does not detract from his work or the fact that he was a great and talented person. Good Luck to Michele, God Bless and Heath is resting peacefully. I think that people who have or are suspected of having drug and alcohol problems should not be allowed near children. That includes Britney.
This past week in Saskatchewan, an Indian man took his kids outside when it was 50 below. He was so drunk, he doesn't remember what happened. His 2 daughters froze to death. The RCMP are laying criminal charges. "They always get their man."
I don't blame Michelle Williams for acting the way she did. She was only doing what a normal mother would. Good for her.

Oh come on…. this was clearly a tragic accident - the guy had phoned his director friend and told him to wake him up in the morning, he did not mean to die in this way. He was in the middle of filming in London and loving his work. Who's to know what the toxicology reports will show, but there were no illegal drugs in his apartment and I for one think he miscalculated the medication he was taking for his sleep issues and that led to his tragic and untimely death. As for the love he had for Michelle, it is somewhat tasteless to compare one woman off against another especially as he's on record saying he couldn't love his two girls any more and that they were like peas in a pod - also he loved and cherished his daughter saying that he wanted to be alive to see her grow up, but knew that he would live on in her. So let him rest. His baby will sadly never remember him through memories of her own and will rely on the people around her to tell her what a good man her daddy was. That above all should be the overwhelming priority right now. Not to rake over this man's reputation and memory with salacious gossip and rumour.

I feel sad for all of them. But who i can relate to most is Matilda. I am a "matilda". My father died when i was 3 and now i am 22. Matilda isn't sad now and she won't be sad for quite a while.. but when she will grow up.. in her late teens.. that's when she will realise what has happened. that's when she will truly miss her father. I feel so sorry for the future Matilda…
Re: LLB in NJ – She didn't rip his daughter away. Many witnesses have said that Heath was seen in his SoHo neighborhood (post-breakup) often with his daughter…so he's been with her often. Gemma Ward's sister reported that over Christmas Heath was upset that he "was not seeing Matilda as much as he would like to". That is not implying that Michelle did not give him access to her. It implies that, for whatever reason (his travel schedule, Michelle's travel schedule - both actors on location, remember?) he was unable to see Matilda as often as he wished.

Again, I really do hope the family is strong enough to lay the plain facts out. I do not think it will take away from Heath as a person. A lot of people with addictions can learn something from this, all of us has problems as did Heath.
Micheles approach may have not been what some of us would have done, but i admit, i would not want my child around a drug user to much either. not unsupervised… and it sounds as if Heath was starting to seek help privately and had an accident in the meantime…. Again, lets ALL LEARN from this, Michele, Heath's family, me, Hollywood,, ,everyone… lets help each other and do it sooner rather than later. Thank you. My heart goes out to Michelle, Matilda and the Ledger Family. She has presented her self so well in this statemen. Nonetheless this is the most difficult time in her life and she still keeps her composure and allows the public to grieve with her. Michelle stay strong sweetie. He will always and forever be w/ you.

My sister lost her husband when she was 6 months pregnant to cancer- she also had a 1 and a half year old- Michelle keep his memory alive- let matilda know her dad will always be a part of her (at the right age and at the right time though).

I teared up when I read this earlier today. My heart goes out to Michelle- Matilda is the spitting image of Heath.
I think that we all play a part in what gets posted on these sites. If people keep commenting on the salacious stories, these sites will keep posting them. I think that we also have some power in stopping it- choose to not look/comment/buy the magazine with "Heath OD"d" on the cover/etc.
I commented on this story, because it is simply recounting Michelle's statement, although they certainly could have posted a more flattering picture.
I think that we should respect the privacy that the family is asking for. For the sake of his baby girl that will someday grow up to see all this crap on the internet.

I find it funny that all these people keep referring to the celebs by their first name as if they were their BFFs. One off point I need to make: Whoever Michelle is using for security detail should get big props…they've managed to keep the paps away (from funeral, from her comings and goings (by air, etc.) Through all this frenzy. Good work!

i have insomnia as well. it is devistating and there are times when i have made silly "drug" choices. sleep. if you have never rested well, you will understand how this happened. too soon. too sad. i am sure he loved the mother of his child like no other….

Its' so hard. I'm a mother of a 4year old boy, who's father died of a drugoverdose 1,5 years ago. It's heartbreaking. I sure hope Michelle has a lot of support from friends and family.

That was so beautifully written. Reading that made me cry and gave me a newfound respect for Michelle. Love her, and my thoughts are totally with her.
I don't know the actors & I don't like to make assumptions but I agree with post #301. I never met Heath but I was deeply devestated by his death. I believe that you can grieve a person's death without having knowing them personally. I thought he was a terrific person based on the pictures and interviews that I saw him in. Maybe that really wasn't who he was but whatever it is I saw made me adore him. He wasnt pictured with Naomi as he was with Michelle, but I think his relationship with Naomi was different. I didnt know that she was the one that pushed him to do BBM. After I saw the drug video I started going through older pictures on IMDB and noticing a difference in the way he looked with Naomi and with Michelle, he had a whole different demeanor. It seems that he looked a little more on the straight and narrow in the pictures with Naomi, he had good color, dressed well and just looking at their body language, it was a mutual attraction. You can start to tell after the January 29 drug video, after that most of his pictures he looks discolored, disheveled and although he tried to look put together for awards, you rarely saw him without glasses on his face. It was almost as if he didn't want you to see what was going on behind the glasses. My assumptions are is what I've read on People but I saw a pic of him and Naomi in Feb 2004. They started filiming BBM in summer 2004 and Michelle was preggers in Jan 2005.
I don't think he nor Naomi had time to get over each other but here he was with a pregnant girlfriend & I think he decided he needed to make that work. I think that Michelle absolutely adored Heath and even seeing pics of those two before she got preggers, I couldn't believe that he had fallen for her. They just didn't seem in the same league but Heath has always been known to fall for his costars. I was heartbroken to read that he was doing heroine just because that's such a hard drug but I also read that he lived with a heroin addict while getting ready to film the movie Candy. He wanted to see what a heroin addict goes through. Maybe that was where the harder drugs came in to play. Who knows. I think that Michelle was truly in love with him and I think that he liked the feeling of a family but he was still young & with all of the women that he could have or had it's extremely hard to settle down. There are too many possibilities out there. I think that Naomi was his true love & looking at the pictures of her I believe it was the same on her part. I think the love he had for Michelle was because she carried his baby & I do believe that is a different kind of love.
