A Message To LGBT Americans

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Politik > Hillary Clinton

thumbnail2.jpg

As I have traveled around the country these past twelve months, what I sensed in my heart has been confirmed – America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before. On the campaign trail, a father of a gay son will ask about ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A woman will ask why she can be discriminated against just because of who she is. Sometimes they wait furtively for the crowd to thin and then whisper their confidences in a soft voice and sometimes they stand up proudly at town meetings and want me to share my views on how I will help lead the change to assure that this country fulfills its promise to everyone.

Let me tell you what I have been telling voters across America. I am fully committed to the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans. For seven long years, the Bush Administration has tried to divide us - only seeing people who matter to them. It's been a government of the few, by the few, and for the few. And no community has been more invisible to this administration than the LGBT community.

I will change that. The best evidence of what I will do as President is what I have already done.

* I am proud of my record as First Lady, as a U.S. Senator and as a candidate for President in working toward the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans.
* I am proud that as Chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee in 2006, I worked closely with LBGT community to develop a smart strategy that defeated the Federal Marriage Amendment. I am proud of fighting the FMA as divisive wedge politics at its worst.
* I am proud to be a co-sponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligation Act which would grant the same benefits (including health insurance) to domestic partners of federal employees that are currently offered to employees’ legal spouses.
* I am proud to have authored the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which expands access to vital treatment options for low-income individuals living with HIV, and fought to fully fund the Ryan White CARE Act.
* I am proud that I hired a National Director of LGBT Outreach within a month of announcing my candidacy for President and to have openly gay and lesbian staffers serving at all levels of my campaign.
* I am proud to have a National LGBT Steering Committee of over 130 that includes openly LGBT elected officials, Board members and opinion leaders on issues ranging from transgender rights, to HIV/AIDS, to “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.
* I am proud to have marched in Gay Pride parades as both First Lady and as Senator and to have spoken in front of so many LGBT audiences ranging from the Human Rights Campaign, Empire State Pride Agenda, the Hetrick Martin Institute, PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
* I am proud to have fought Republican efforts to demonize and marginalize the LGBT community, and I will continue to do that as President.

We have so much work to do. When I am President, we will work together to make sure that all Americans in committed relationships have equal benefits and that nothing stands in the way of loving couples who want to adopt children in need. We're going to expand our federal hate crimes legislation and pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and assure that they are both fully inclusive of all people. And finally, we will put an end to the failed policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Courage, honor, patriotism and sacrifice – the traits that define our men and women in uniform – have nothing to do with sexual orientation.

My father was a conservative Republican, who held very traditional views for much of his life. Yet in his last years, it was a gay couple who lived next door who provided much of the compassion and comfort he and my mother needed as he grew ill. And it was that same neighbor who held his hand as he died. If my father can move, America can move.

To each and every LGBT American, I say this. You have done so much to help this country understand your lives by simply being open and honest about who you are and living your lives with dignity. Thank you for your courage. It is time that we recognize your hard work. I know that this country is ready for changes in the law that reflect the evolution in our hearts.

America deserves a President who appeals to the best in each of us, not the worst; a President who values and respects all Americans and treats all Americans equally no matter who they are or who they love. I want to be that President. I want to be your President.

    Remember this quote:

Hillary Clinton: "We're Going to Take Things Away From You on Behalf of the Common Good"

Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans.

The choice is clear: Marxism or freedom. Vote wisely.

Puhlease Perez - she's a back stabbing C*nt who would run over her own child to get elected.
    Give me a break.

to everyone who keeps telling perez to stop shoving hillary down your throats… it's his blog and he can do what he wants with it. sure sure this is a celebrity gossip site… but it's not my celebrity gossip site, it's not your celebrity gossip site… it's perez hilton's celebrity gossip site and he can do what he wants. if you don't like it go somewhere else… it's that easy.

secondly, to those saying that hillary will do anything/say anything to get elected… she's a politician and politicians tend to say things to get elected (what a surprise) so those people should pat themselves on the back for their extremely weak skills of observation (good for them!). hillary clinton has actually done a lot of good (more than me and i dare say more than the vast majority of individuals judging her) and kept many of her campaign promises to the voters in new york who elected her. sure she hasn't kept every single one but there has never been a politician who has. furthermore at the very least clinton's position on the MAJORITY of the issues hasn't shifted unlike mitt romney.

to the guy who instructed perez to get educated about healthcare… you should be educated instead. sure your brother's a doctor well my dad's a doctor too but neither your brother or my father are currently leaving comments so trying to sound authoritative based on their credentials means nothing. neither of us are doctors and neither of our opnions should be seen as expert.
universal healthcare WILL NOT put doctors out of work. there are lots of doctors in canada, england, france, norway, sweden, etc. all of these nations have universal healthcare. most western nations with the same (or better) standards of living we enjoy here are nations with universal healthcare and guess what their doctors aren't out of work, sub-standard or threatening to leave the country either.
universal healthcare would be great for small and large buisness owners who currently complain about the increasing cost of healthcare for their employees. due to this increase in healthcare costs more and more businesses are NOT offering healthcare at all to their employees adding to the already 45 million americans who don't have any health insurance. if business were relieved of this cost all together it would in the long run save many small and large businesses millions if not billions of dollars in healthcare costs for their employees.

if you would have done your research you would have read that she helped pass "Don't ask, don't tell" so that they wouldn't try to band gays and lesbians from the military or have the open right to act violently towards them. AND DOMA was passed to shutup the republicans who wanted to change the consititution of america so that gays and lesbians couldn't get married. she helped do those things to stop conservatives from doing WORSE. do your research.

Jesus H Christ. Perez is a mo, I am a Canadian mo. I fucking hate politics, but when it comes to mo rights that's mo' rights for us all. I don't even care about her stance on the environment or if she eats or wears beaver, I'd fucking vote for her. I bet her cooter doesn't smell like berries, and that picture is probably photoshopped– when she gets in I say: "hey! Unleash like hell's fury against her flip-flop poli-talk." Till then, I'll imagine her cooter does smell like berries and if you don't agree then you's probably fuckin' racist against gay people. Dick.

But what do you expect from that liberal opportunist fem-bot? I hope to God that she gets humiliated in this election, and that someone has the stones to call her out on all her lies.

of course the one time that you shouldn't be providing americans with biased news you give your favourite candidate a shameless plug every chance you get.

I don't know why i expected better of you perez. I thought you would want all the eligible voters in this nation to be WELL INFORMED when they make this critical decision that will undoubtedly change their live. Guess i was wrong.

Any Christian who believes that not all humans deserve basic, fair rights (Huckabee) is not worshipping the same God I am, and we're not reading the same Bible either. Jesus taught acceptance and fairness for everyone, and to not pass judgement (let you who are without sin cast the first stone). That is why I am a democrat- Jesus was about loving everyone, and helping the poor- the key values of the Democrats. Hillary is my candidate of choice because of her strong, TRULY CHRISTIAN views- that everyone is equal in God's eyes and deserves respect and basic rights.

i am sick to death of the discrimination going on in the USA's government. gay marriage is illegal in this country? these conservatives are bigots. i am old enough to remember when women and blacks were second class citizens.we have come a long way.? women and blacks finally have rights. gays have the same rights that others have fought so long for. or they should. the conservatives are getting caught being bigots. i am sick of it. quit judging others. i think we are all connected to each other. we are of one spirit. the same spirit.i knew when i grew up that i would never be president. i am a girl. now, for the first time in my life, i feel like a woman has an equal chance to be president.

Media is obsessed with Obama, but clearly, HILLARY is the one person we, as, Americans, should nominate. It pains me to see people touting their vote for Obama, merely because it's "cool" or "trendy" to be following what the media feeds them. Let's face it. When the Democratic nominee walks up to face the Republicans and the progeny of Karl Rove and the like, HILLARY is best qualified–not Barack Obama.

I'm sorry for those of you who say that She'll say anything to win yeah that may be true, but the same goes for any other presidential candidate the only interest they are looking out for is their own. they are all the same whether it's the republican who hates you and tells it do your face or the democrat who hates you behind your back someone get's screwed either way!!!!

I LOVE you HILLARY!!!! you are everything America needs and deserves!

  37. Undecided says – reply to this

    937

I'm still undecided. What we need to do is listen carefully to the debates; try to take in the attitude of these candidates. I take it most of whom read this site are either democrat or leaning towards liberalism. What we need is a persident who is both cozy with coorporate ties and is aware of social problems. We need a president who wants to prove themselves. America needs the mind of both exposure and experince. Please choose wisely.

  38. HILLARY = PRO DOMA = bad for gays says – reply to this

    938

Hillary supported the Defense of Marriage Act which sought to ban gay marriage. Obama OPPOSED it, when he was running for Senate, which was a brave and admirable move.

    OBAMA!!!!
    OBAMA!!!!!!!
    OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!

  39. doug says – reply to this

    939

If you can't come out and be pro-marriage for gays and lesbians, you are NOT a friend of the gays. That goes for Hillary, Obama, Edwards, and all the rest. We should accept nothing less.

However, Hillary can't claim she fought all that hard against Don't Ask Don't Tell and DOMA, since it was her husband that fucking signed them into law. Obama may not be pro marriage, but I have more faith that he won't sell us short like the Clintons.

  40. MATTHEW HOLDEN says – reply to this

    940

YEAH UM TOO BAD THE DUMB BITCH (I'M A GAY REPUBLICAN) WHEN ASKED AT THE HRC DEMOCRATIC DEBATE EARLIER THIS YEAR IF SHE SUPPORTED SAME-SEX MARRIAGE SHE LAUGHED IT OFF BUT CLEARLY MEANT NO AND ALONG WITH HER IGNORANCE AND NOT CLARIFYING HER WORDS, BY SAYING THAT SHE'LL PASS A NON-DISCRIMINATION ACT FOR EVERYONE, THAT MEANS ILLEGAL ALIENS TOO. THIS SHIT IF FUCKING RIDICULOUS. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A FEMALE PRESIDENT BUT NOT HER. BECAUSE WHEN SHE FUCKS UP LIKE HER HUSBAND DID THE PEOPLE WHO WERE AGAINST A FEMALE PRESIDENT IN THE FIRST PLACE WILL ACT LIKE THEY'RE PROVING EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED A FEMALE PRESIDENT WRONG. IT'S NOT THAT A WOMAN CAN'T RUN OUR COUNTRY, IT'S THAT HILLARY CAN'T RUN OUR COUNTRY. OH AND BY THE WAY EVERYONE BARACK IS FUCKING ISLAMIC MORE SO THAN BLACK. WHO WAS DEAD BROKE SEVEN YEARS AGO?? BARACK HUSSEINE OBAMA. AND I ALSO LOVE THAT PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE HE CHOSE THAT NAME.

Wow - I've actually never posted here before but I am now as someone who was let down again. A leader would stand up for our community : Hilllary leverages it. We as LGBT really need someone who instead of playing off of us will fight for us.

    But still, vote Obama!!!

I just noticed the comment saying that Perez is a intelligent satirical blogger.
First, what the hell are you talking about satire?
Second, since when does pandering to the lowest common denominator make you intelligent.

Perez is just an overweight homo with stupid hair.

Also, oh great, Hillary supports the LGBT community. Honestly, who cares? LGBT is not a big deal. A vast majority of the world doesn't care what you do, whether it be L, G, B, or T. It's just like potheads voting for someone because they want to legalize marijuana. Get over it and put the real issues first.

    952

One day more & more people will be able to accept & embrace all human beings, whether "minority" or not. That is a day that I hope will come sooner than later. LGBT is not a choice, it's in a person's chemical makeup, it's how the person is born, just like a black person is born with a different skin tone. All of those not just like the "average" person deserve the same chances. Jesus said to love your enemies & to love those not like you. Would Jesus shun these people? I think not. A true Christian is one who loves & accepts & prays for everyone, not just a small group. LGBT deserve for it to one day be more acceptable for them to live together in peace; to be parents without discrimination; to get married because they truely love their partners. And it will be those who are ignorant & prejudice to this who continue to hold them & our society as a whole back from equality and change for the better. Open your eyes & your hearts & just love everyone. You can't change these people because they are not in need of change, nor can they change. They deserve every last right that you & I deserve. And the same rights that the rest of you wake up every day to without the thought of being discriminated against. The time to seize ignorance & prejudice is NOW!

    955

Okay, some of you pansies. Listen up. You don't HAVE to believe what Senator Clinton is saying… Just look at her RECORD- it speaks for her. Oh, and here's a "PS" for all you Clinton Haters: FOR the record, it was a well-known LGBT organization that put out a press release back in '92 (the first week that *BILL* Clinton took office) that forced the gays in the military issue. We all know "Don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue" doesn't work. But ya can't put that on Hillary. OUR community shot itself in the foot on that one. LGBT leaders helped to create the failure of DADT by failing to strategize with a new, hopeful administration on a cohesive strategy for CHANGE. Senator Clinton, I'd serve with you as my Commander in Chief ANY DAY, ANY TIME, ANYWHERE. Screw lowering standards for military recruitment by allowing criminals and moral waivers. Sign your own executive order (a la Truman with EO9981 racially integrating the military). Beef up your military with O U T S T A N D I N G men and women who wish to serve as our code has taught us: honestly. GO, HILLS!

Politics are important! I praise Perez for trying to get young people involved. Everyone knows that he has his favorites, in the celeb world and the political world. What's most important is that you vote and have your voice heard, whether you agree or not, because people die for our right to vote. Exercise that right, and disagree all you want - thats why this is a democracy!
by the way, whoever gets elected is YOUR president too, so they need to protect all Americans and promote the wellbeing of all, even the ignorant, uneducated ones!

  58. Sara says – reply to this

I love your site and come to it to read the celebrity gossip. If I want political analysis, I will go to CNN. If you are going to become a political site, at least have the integrity to offer equal time to other candidates and their supporters in the the same way you pander to Hillary.

That being said, Hillary Clinton is an amoral hypocrite, for whom the ends always justify the means. Her political experience consists of one carpetbagging term in the Senate, and as a political wife, with no involvement in running the country. Prior to the Senate, Obama was in the Illinois State legislature. giving him more hands on political experience than Hillary. Hillary has once again resorted to dirty tricks (remember the White House travel scandal), playing the race card, and misrepresenting Obama's political experience and his position on reproductive rights, among other things. For someone who does not hesitate to take people to task for not being down with the Latino cause, you choose to back a candidate that is oblivious to issues affecting women of color, sat on the Board of Wal-Mart who has racked up more racial discrimination suits against Latinos than anyone in the last decade, and has done nothing for Latinos while in the Senate. Shame on you!

That includes the uninsured Gay couples without health insurance, people without a corportate job, and the millions who have to stay in an unhappy marriage for their heath care coverage

TO the people who think Perez is being biased: his website IS biased. He always promotes some celeb over another, but it doesn't matter, we still love reading it. To the person who said let people think for themselves.
Um hello if people can't think for themselves and are so easily swayed by one person's opinion, then we have a big problem. This is a democracy, people can have whatever opinion they so wish, and Perez should not be hated on because he supports one candidate. His website does not have a disclaimer "will promise to remain unbiased"
THINK FOR YOURSELF no matter who says what

    Re: People suck
FYI, gay people are also "people" and they too can suck and be ignorant. There are a lot of ignorant and hateful postings by people claiming to be gay on this site as well as the anti-gay assholes. Being gay doesn't automatically make one more open minded or nicer. So all people can suck, gay, straight, bi or trans.
As for Hilary. She's an opportunistic, hypocritical b*tch. Hilary is a known lesbian and people on capitol hill have known for decades. The fact that she's speaking in favor of LGBT rights is so hypocritical it makes me sick. She's doing exactly what James McGreevy did and was crucifed for. She married Bill Clinton and stayed with him so she could further her own political career. Why is it ok when SHE does it and male politicians are destroyed? She's an opportunistic bitch.

I am for a woman president, but not one who insinuated herself on the American public when we elected her husband. And then had him appoint her into a powerful politcal position. Only to completely fail miserably.

The LGBT community should crucify her for leading this double life. Her support in my opinion is meaningless and hypocritical.

We need a woman in the oval office, but not her. Just not her!

    1. That is a great start but she is still not saying what I want to hear which is that she will legalize gay marriage! Marriage! Not civil unions or any other weak ass insulting lesser than option. Marriage, like everyone else.

    2. To all of you pissing and moaning about Perez talking politics on *his* blog - is that not what a blog is for? Is it not an outlet of personal expression? Does he not have every right to post whatever the eff he wants on *his* own blog? I honestly don't get the backlash here. If you don't like it, don't read it. Or, read it and maybe learn something about tolerance of others opinions. Either get involved in the intelligent conversation or get out of the way!

    993

I'm in fact touched…. I was not that open minded about having woman as our president, but as I read and watch more about her point of views, I'm actaully getting to like her more and she really seems to care about our country as a whole. Not like other republican candidates, they only care about certain class of people in America. But we have to remember that, there are so many people just like us not too rich but not too poor called middle class, and we are living in a reality world which Hillary seems to show that she's able to cover every big or little subjects to make all of our life better. I didn't vote yesterday as I still wasn't sure who I really like, but now my heart is kinda growing toward Hillary and Obama. I'm an independent, I will only look at the fact that who will be the best person to take on the job to become our president of United States. I'm proud to be an American! ;)

Slipping in the polls, the queen of faking orgasms is now faking being down on cash to get the sympathy checks of her supportive (but not yet contributing) fans. They estimate if their numbers are right, they are being UNDER-donated by 95% of the electorate. Slipping a story out about her campaign needing money is a ploy for quick cash and a wink and a nod to her success with the tears of New Hampshire. Only think is. American ain't that dumb.

It would be easy to stay silent and watch from the sidelines as history is made before our eyes… it takes courage to stand up for who you believe in as I myself experienced firsthand. Whatever side you are on there is always someone front and center ready to beat you down. But as Hilary has shown… she is ready for the battle and I for one will be at her side. If PH is there too I will proudly reach for his hand.

My question however, was why the anti gay people are on a gay man's blog to begin with. I've yet to receive an answer for that one. I'm truly curious about it.
