Heath's Family Responds To His Official Cause Of Death

Filed under: Australiastic > Heath Ledger

Statement from Kim Ledger on behalf of the Ledger family issued following the release of the Medical Examiner's findings:

We remain humble as parents and a family, among millions of people worldwide who may have suffered the tragic loss of a child. Few can understand the hollow, wrenching, and enduring agony parents silently suffer when a child predeceases them. Today's results put an end to speculation, but our son's beautiful spirit and enduring memory will forever remain in our hearts.

While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage.

Our family enjoyed an extremely happy two week visit with Heath just prior to the New Year. Those recent precious days will stay with us forever. We as a family feel privileged to have some of his amazing magic moments captured in film. To most of the world Heath was an actor of immeasurable talent and promise. To those who knew him personally, Heath was a consummate artist whose passions also included photography, music, chess and directing. We knew Heath as a loving father, as our devoted son, and as a loyal and generous brother and friend.

We treasure our beautiful granddaughter Matilda (to our dear Michelle) as well as an unbelievably wonderful network of close friends, forever, around the world. Families rarely experience the uplifting, warm and massive outpouring of grief and support as have we, from every corner of the planet. This has deeply and profoundly touched our hearts and lives. We are eternally grateful.

At this moment we respectfully request the worldwide media allow us time to grieve privately, without the intrusions associated with press and photography.

there's not much use arguing with L, Dear L….it's kinda obvious he/she doesnt have the brain capacity to figure it out.

Here is something I pulled from wikipedia (oxycodone) L…see if u can wrap ur tiny brain around it."It is also sold in a sustained-release form by Mundipharma, and in the US by Purdue Pharma under the trade name OxyContin (the name is actually short for Oxycodone Continuous release) as well as generic equivalents, and instant-release forms Endone, OxyIR, OxyNorm, Percolone, OxyFAST, Supeudol, and Roxicodone". Get it? Oxycontin is just the trade name for the same drug in a time released form. Duh.

OVER MY DEAD BODY will anybody regulate the distribution of medications on behalf of drug addicts. They already do more than enough to emphasize the potential effects of ALL drugs… including over-the-counter. There are warnings and references all over the damn box AND bottle! Needless to say, it's completely absurd to combine those drugs. Good god. We're living in a democratic society. Heath's allowed to endanger himself. We can't baby everyone. Some people want to be here, some people don't. And some people like Heath weren't trying hard enough to be a part of the world. He didn't get his wake up call in time but essentially he didn't care enough about himself to take care.

No "good" doctor will prescribe all that at the same time to the same person. It's not the pills that kill, it's the user. He had a drug problem. You don't get to that point without enablers, which he clearly had.

Did he maybe try for a suicide "attempt" - thinking that the maid and/or masseuse would "rescue" him?

he's dead. is this going to be turned into an anna nicole smith fisaco? come on he was in a few movies so what. actors or so called actors are a dime a dozen. why dwell on this, let his family grieve. his name will be forgottoen next week for those who know him. for those who don't who cares. you pop-culture hollywood freaks are sickening. get some real talent.

again. i was not finished. hollywood is dying. no real talent or real class no glamor. we are left now with the dregs of society who are called actors and actresses. they do anything to get into the news. drive drunk, enter rehab take drugs etc. what a bunch of weaklings. too bad the golden era isn't back again although they has their probles, at least they had talent. so who cares and they ugly, dirty, no talent, olsen twins. come on give us a break. this guy is dead because his lack of talent scared him, he knew like all the other half assed so called stars that his days were numbered. get over hollywood celebs and get a life. these people suck / hollywood is dead.
