Janet Gets Naked (But Keeps Her Clothes On)

Janet Jackson is on the cover of the new Parade magazine, and in a candid chat she talks about her marriages, men cheating on her, her faith and the out of wedlock child her father had, amongst other things.
Here are some highlights from the interview!
Janet on love
“I was always reaching out for love. I kept searching for it, seeking it. Infatuation, lust—that stuff only lasts so long. You can get that from anybody. But true love is supposed to be forever. Jackson says she has found that love with record producer and hip-hop artist Jermaine Dupri, 35. They have known each other for six years now and may already be married, although that is a question Janet will not address beyond admitting that they are a couple and she is crazy about him. “This time, I wasn’t going to be the first to reach out,” she says. “It was Jermaine who touched me first. Love came to me. He’s such a wonderful, sweet, very loving guy that I said to myself, ‘I’m not going to fall head over heels for this person.’ ”
On the Janet’s father’s out-of-wedlock child and how it has affected her
Janet’s father had an out-of-wedlock child with a fan of the Jackson 5. Five years later, he had another affair with an employee of his sons’ record label, Motown. His infidelities nearly ended his marriage and deeply affected Janet. “Besides my mother’s beauty and her smarts, what I always wanted was her strength,” says Janet, who is very close with her mother, Katherine, 77. “It’s a very cold world, and to have gone through what she has had to experience, from having polio as a child to those things with my brother Michael, and then for my father to have had another child!” Janet says angrily. “I’ve been cheated on a lot. I know what that feels like and how that hurts the heart. But, I mean, to give us a half-sister. I can’t even fathom what that’s like for Mother. For her to stay with my father all these years and never abandon her kids, that’s true love.”
On her two previous marriages
Janet was married twice and kept both marriages a secret until they ended. “I wanted to keep something for myself and not have it be public,” Janet says. “But after two divorces, I thought I was jinxed. Maybe marriage isn’t for me? Maybe it’s my fault it never works. I was always faithful. I always tried to give of myself. I was very loyal. But maybe I’m the problem. I’m to blame.” She continues, “It was awful, and I was so tired of being hurt. When it was over, I put shields up to protect myself from being hurt again. I didn’t want to go there anymore.”
On Her Faith
“Jehovah’s Witnesses was the religion we were raised under. I’d get up on Sunday mornings, go to the Kingdom Hall, go again on Thursday night and go to book study on Tuesdays, because that was my mother’s routine. I believe in God. I feel that spiritual connection. But, most of the time, I didn’t pay attention in the Kingdom Hall. I was asleep. I know that’s awful. I was so tired, so busy, so knocked out, I’d fall asleep.”
On Growing Up in a 'Religious World'
“Being a Jehovah’s Witness, you grow up in a very religious world. But as a kid I loved Prince and The Time, one of my favorite groups, and would listen to them all the time even though you’re not supposed to do that. When I was 16, I was promoting my first album and I went with Mother to see The Time’s concert with Prince. I did not want to sit next to Mother because I knew they were dirty. I was trying to be cool and calm, but oh my God, I was sweating bullets! How am I going to sit at this show and watch Vanity Six and Prince and The Time and sit next to Mother? She’s going to think, ‘Good Lord, what is my baby into? She really needs more of God in her life! Where did I go wrong?’ I could just hear Mother blaming herself for everything! Luckily, I got someone else to swap seats with me so I was able to enjoy the show and have the same great time I would’ve had if I were there without Mother."

Ummm… Jehovah Witnesses are religous in a good way I personally know mnay that I admire for having some kind of morals, we gotta admit in this world there are nor Morals and standards.
Isnt that funny that she was once not allowed to listen to prince and now prince is a Jehovahs Witness.

My wife has been a Jehovah's witness for about 5 yrs. now. Although I am just to lazy to do anything myself, they are all really nice, down to earth people. They strive to live their lives morally, although noone can be perfect. She doesn't celebrate birthdays. But are daughter gets presents all the time from us, in fact I think our daughter has more than most kids her age. They are clearly not a cult. I find that comment really offensive. My wife was always a beautiful person but now she has truly become even a better wife. I think Janet should have been more clear about Prince & added that the reason she felt her mom would'nt like prince was because he used to sing about innapropriate things. Anyone would agree with that. Even the media usex to talk about it. Funny because it is true that Prince is now a Jehovahs Witness himself. She shouldd credit her mom's faith for helping her to stay with her adulterous husband. The father was & is not a Jehovah's Witness. if my daughter grows up & wants to be a witness than I would be happy for her.

Janet is deep! she always speaks from the heart. Everybody family has up's and down she has managed to keep her spirituality and faith that there is good in people. Her popularity covers all bounderies her music and persona relates to lot's of fans across the world! She always keeps it real……

wow all of these comments about how Jehovah's Witnesses have moral and respect for themselves really make me proud to be one! Yes, we do preach and try to spread the word, but we live regular lives..but i really do feel happy to say that i am a jehovah's witness because of the nice things people are saying!!:) and fyi i listen to prince and soulja boy and allll them! and im a jehovah's witness!!!! there is so no rule that you cant listen to any certain type of music…get over yourself if you think there it!

we like everyone else listen and watch movies and music. so ofcourse well have our favorite celebrities which is sooooooo not banned one thing you like a celebrity another is you idolize the celebrity so of course well want to know whats going on with our favorites duh!!!!!!!! anyways its true were raised with high morals we choose to be a JW our parents dont force us its our decision so if we see what the world offers and we dont want no part of it thats our choice. plus were not deprived of anything i have friends who arent JW and they are not allowed to go out and me being a JW go out every weekend we just choose what kind of fun we should take part of but to all those who think we are deprived from having fun you are completely wrong.

Sadly, I too was raised a Jehovah's Witness and via the Watchtower or the elders there were OFTEN examples of musicians they found bad influences. I was a little kid in the 80's, so I never heard anything about Prince… but in the 90's they warned us about Nirvana, Beastie Boys, ALL RAP MUSIC, etc, etc. Come on kids, you know the elders in your hall said that shit! And go ask the brother that runs your bible study how he feels about you blogging on Perez? Or how he feels about gays in general. I feels for you kids. Stay strong. Listen to Prince! Read Perez! Read history books! Go to college! And stay the hell out of the Kingdom Hall. xo
