Winehouse's Visa Rejected!

Even though she wanted to come to America for the Grammy Awards this weekend - she's nominated in six categories - Amy Winehouse will be forced to stay in rehab after being turned down by the U.S. Embassy in London.
And that's a good thing!
Wino's health is the priority right now, not collection awards.
The singer's publicist has released the following statement after the visa rejection:
"Amy Winehouse will not be performing at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony.
The singer has been invited to appear at the event on Sunday (February 10) after receiving an amazing 6 nominations for the prestigious awards.
Unfortunately, her application for a visa to enter the United States of America has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy in London.
Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery.
Amy has been treated well and fairly by the Embassy staff and thanks everyone for their support in trying to make this happen.
There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future."

A visa is not required to come to the states in you have a british passport.
You are given a 3 month holiday waiver (once you have boarded the plane)

Visa waiver doesn't count for people coming to the U.S. to work. Most likely she would be paid for her Grammy performance (and therefore would be working) for which she would need to have authorization from USCIS and DOS/ the Embassy. She probably applied for a P-1 visa back during her tour, got approval from USCIS but her visa expired and when she had to apply for a new one it was denied.
The fact is, even without official charges or jail time she could have been denied entry due to the embassy's suspicion of potential drug use. Its discressionary.

Isn't she a british citizen? Why does she need a visa to come to the US if she attends the Grammys? Is attending the grammys same as working in the US?
Maybe I am outdated with US visa waiver but the last time I checked, UK is one of the nations that has waiver as long as the visitor stays for a limited number on days. No visa needed
Re: luc – If she's going to work (i.e. get paid) that's not covered under the Visa Waiver Program. (An O-1? I don't know if she's considered "extraordinary") It's the regular process.
