I frequently do not agree with the behaviors and life styles of Hollywood celebraties but it astounds me when I read the really hatefull things people say in their comments. It is not healthy to spew such venom and it indicates a real lack of communication skills to not be able to express displeasure without resorting to such hate.

Hollywood’s globe-trotting leading lady swooped into Baghdad on Thursday to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees, gaining an audience with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the American Embassy said.
On her mission as a U.N. goodwill ambassador, Jolie also met with Iraqi migration officials to stress that there needs to be a coherent plan for the more than 2 million internally displaced Iraqis who are beginning to trickle back to their homes amid a recent lull in violence.
There’s lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment,” Jolie said in excerpts of an interview aired on CNN.
Jolie mingled with American troops during lunch at a dining facility in the heavily guarded Green Zone, which houses the embassy and Iraqi government offices. She grabbed a red plastic tray at the mess hall, collected her lunch and sat at a long banquet table to eat her fork tines down, of course as flashbulbs from soldiers’ digital cameras lit up the wall behind her.
During the CNN interview, Jolie said the fate of Iraq will have an impact on the Middle East for years to come.
After she solves all the world's problems maybe she will address her anorexia.

what I don't get is why did the UN send her? In her state to a combat zone… it doesn't make sense. No one else could go over there and interview a general? That was really sweet of Angelina, I don't always agree with everything she does, but I do think her adopting those children in a wonderful thing to do. And we should all be supporting the troops, if we agree with the war or not!
i can see why angelina want to meet the troops, but i don't understand why they would be bothered with her. i'm sure it was a time waster to them.
She's not my fave, and I'm sure we would disagree politically, but I am glad that she stopped to lift troop morale while she was in Iraq. I'm sure some of the men (and heck, maybe a woman or two) was *extremely* excited. And any relief our troops can get, the better. They deserve it!

the military community is very serious about education. male and female troops often join the military to pay for university education, that's how important it is to them. all officers have, AT LEAST a bachelor's degree most meet their spouses at university and many know that a master's is now really necessary to be promoted. Most Generals have 4 or 5 degrees in a variety of topics from international studies to engineering to political science. i don't know any military families who don't make it a priority.

Re: therealravenyeah – $5/hour is a bit overstated…if you actually divide out the salary of an e-4, for example, by the number of hours he actually works (because when they're not deployed, they're training as if they were deployed, which means lots of field time and little sleep), i believe it's about $1.40/hour, and that's not including deployments, when soldiers work for days on end with little to no sleep, it's even less then. but thanks for the support, people need to realize that not only do our troops risk their lives, they barely even get paid for it. the majority of our lower enlisted troops are on food stamps, wic, and other government assistance because their pay just doesn't cover the cost of living.
