I LOVE how everyone is agreeing with Natalie. NOT! OK, so people idolize Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Keith Richards….. I could just keep going. All of these people were celebrated musicians AND they were all drug addicts/alcoholics. I don't believe that they rewarded Amy Winehouse for her addictions, they acknowledged her artistry. If anyone had been digging around Frank Sinatra's life, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr.'s lives they would have found a lot of alcohol and drugs. It was kept quiet. Look at Liza Minelli. Look at Judy Garland. Celebrated artists with debilitating drug problems.

While I agree with Natalie somewhat, I think Amy's wins were well-deserved. The proof is in her music, the girl has soul and can sing. I also think it was good for her to win those awards, who knows, it may aid in her recovery. Amy could look at this whole thing like "my life was in the toilet, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel." Amy knows people are rooting for her to win the battle over her addictions, you could see the realization on her face last night. Yeah, she sounded and looked kind of cracky, but don't all addicts get the jitters while detoxing? One thing in Amy's defense, she's bringing back that classic do-wop (sp?) vibe that is long overdue. Natalie should have commented on that. Amy's trying to get it together, people need to give her credit for that. Natalie's heart was in the right place (she understands about addiction because she's been there), but she's out of touch with today's "standards" of music. Yeah, "Rehab" sends the wrong message, but at the same time the song deals with the one thing addicts have the biggest problem with: admitting they have an addiction. Natalie takes the song at face value, she should really listen to the song again. Besides, compared to some of the garbage we have to listen to on a daily basis, Amy's message is a drop in the bucket of bad messages everyone else's music supplies us with.

Many who submitted to this blog clearly have no experience with addiction and what it means to ENABLE people. It's clear Natalie knows what it will take to get Amy turned around. Amy needs to be knocked off her current path, in a way that she truly gets what her addiction has cost her. She doesn't get it yet. She was in a happy fog last night with no incentive to quit and not incentive to dump her loser/killer husband.
No one is perfect. Amy is a unique talent in a world of identical pop tarts using their sex and fake boobs to sell records and make $$. We all have our demons and the I am happy to see that the Grammy's respected true talent and put aside the personal issues that have nothing to do with her music. I agree with the concept that talent and personal behavior are two separate issues, and that the Grammys aren't about role models. However, for an addict to get better they have to experience some fallout from their behavior and it seems the more f'd up she is, the more attention and accolades she receives. That just seems wrong to me. I'm not sure that giving an addict Grammys for a song denying the need for rehab while she is in rehab is a good idea.
