like….the girl is currently IN rehab. her rehab facility let her go so she could perform. but she's in the middle of a rehab program, and she's singing this song about how she's too cool for rehab and she refuses to go…it makes it seem like not going to rehab is cool. how can she sing that song with that smug smile on her face, winking at audience members like "oh its so ironic that im in rehab and singing this song" blah blah blah. but like…its not cool! I think it was wildly inappropriate for her to sing that song. she has a million hits. she could have sung back in black or 15 others. its just weird. it's like an anorexic patient being released from her anorexic rehab treatment to sing the song she wrote about her anorexia and how she's in denial about her anorexia and refuses to go to rehab for it. its fucking messed up. Just to set the record straight: Natalie did NOT use her dad's name to get famous! She refused to be connected with in the beginning of her carrer. She started out singing blues/r&b. It was 20 years after her fame came that she made the tribute CD to him. She is a true artist in her own right. But I guess when you're in your 20s you don't get anything beyond what MTV shoves down your throat.
But to Amy's defense: She is VERY talented and should definately be recorginzed for. I bet many a winner's been on different drugs! It's just that Amy's problems are out in the open.

Now that I think about it - you may be right. She probably "went on record" saying it because she knows that everyone would be talking about HER once it got out. The next thing you know, there's probably a new album coming out. Maybe I could take her comments better if she weren't an addict herself and on the verge of hooking on the corner for money and hits. But the Grammys are about musical contributions, not about anyone's personal lives. Alcoholics and Drug Addicts have been winning awards for years, some of them just hid it better.

I hate to say it, but I agree with her. First, from what I understand, Amy is completely wasted at most, if not all, of her performances. Maybe her album WAS good, but anyone could really put together an album with some computer help…. Her performances and touring should be what matters, and her performances are usually awful. The woman doesn't seem to have any talent except in a controlled recording studio.
Second, I find it a big disgraceful that even though the woman is not even allowed in our COUNTRY (well, until they changed their mind at the last second), she is allowed to "compete" in our award shows. I think once you're banned from the country entirely, that should disqualify you from any American-based ANYTHING. I just don't think Amy should have been allowed to participate when she was banned from the country.
Finally - everyone is right. The music award should not be influenced by the singer's personal life (including her drug use). I do agree with that. But her drug use has negatively affected almost every performance she ever does. I think these poor performances should have had a bigger impact on the decision to award her.
The Grammy's aren't the Nobel Peace Prize or anything. You get them for talent, not for your personal life and persona. Who the hell is Natalie Cole? Some jealous twat?
