This country is becoming so judgemental about everything and everybody.
I think you guys are having way too much freedom, only here you have kids killing other kids, too much violence, sex and drugs, parents who kick they kids out of the house or simply don't care.
I am scared to have my kids grow here and yes you can tell me to go back where I came and that is a good idea.
this country is so fucked up. no wonder the rest of the world cant stand us anymore.
My prayers are to the victim family.

This is so sad. People who are different live in danger. Somehow it reminds me to an article i read the other day about barack obama being in danger if he became president. Really sad. I feel so sorry for this poor boy and his family.

    204

    Becca
You are not all for expressing individuallity. If so you would never suggest that the boy should "tone it down". The people who target others for being simply themselves should be ashamed. They are the real problem. If someone wears a dress? Who the F. are they hurting?
Whats the problem?!?! I dont care how other people dress! And I certainly would never choose to kill someone over something so f-ing insignificant!
Allthough I think America is a great country, its when reading things like this Im glad I dont live there. Ive never heard of this happening in my country. And I have alot of amazing gay friends. Im Norwegian by the way. Not that it matters, but at least we dont go crazy like this on regular basis.
There is something profoundly wrong with the mentality of young people who are doing this. Wake up people!

We have a serious need for gun control in this country. A child should never have access to a gun. And the homophobia thing … that's a whole other sordid, disgusting issue. I am sickened by this.

Wait until he goes to an adult prison where he will have no choice in his sexuality. He'll be fresh meat. Prisoners read the news too, they'll be waiting for him.

Yeah, shoot someone because you're a fucking closet case.

Tolerance classes need to be as required as gym and Spanish.

Its so sad that people have to let themselves become such monsters to prove how macho they are! If anything the killer was the sad little boy! The kid he killed was far more of a man than him! He wasnt afraid to be himself and didnt give a rats ass what some a**hole homophobes had to say about him! Think of it! Would a REAL TOUCH MACHO MAN feel threatened by a sissy dressed like Boy George!?

Re: Krash – U know nothing about Canada dipshit! IT is nearly impossible to get a gun here. I KNOW I'm CAnadian. THE ONLY PPl who have guns in Canada are the cops, the gangs, and the hunters. NOT the general public!!!!! U can't just go to a gun store and wait 3-6 weeks and bam u have a gun. IT's not like that up here. We ain't like the yanks at all!!!! GO CANADA!!!! PRO CHOICE, GAY MARRIAGE, LAX MARIjUANA policies. WE are north america's NEtherlands……

This happened right near my hometown. I thank you for publishing this, in hopes that others will read it and realize that yes, "you don't have to like everyone, but you do need to respect them." Thanks again. And I hope the family makes the difficult yet selfless decision to donate his organs. Happy Valentine's Day.

    214

To anyone here that has said the kid shouldn't have been so "out" (becca, hobie, and others)…that is proposterous to blame anything on the victim. He should be able to come to school wearing whatever he wants. We aren't talking about a bully who made fun of him and he went home crying, we are talking about a hate crime where he was SHOT for the way he dressed. This isn't typical junior high school ridicule, this is hatrid, violence, and murder. And to Dancer and lil mizz bossy and others criticizing Perez, GET OVER YOURSELVES. He is playing a part and saying things in a joking manner. I don't see him stealing his parents' gun and shooting LiLo twice in the head. Geez…

    216

This is very sad. I'm glad to see you posted this. I live in Oxnard and this is not something that we are used to seeing or hearing about. It's sad that kids are not safe at school anymore. ANything can happen these days. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lawrence's family. He didn't deserve this at all. We need to respect everyone's individuality and stop with all the hate crimes. :(

It really affects the community when these type of things happen. It's a tragedy in what's normally a beautiful place to live.

  20. Melissa from Atlanta says – reply to this

    220

It is sad…very tragic! :( But it is not more sad or tragic than any other person who was brutally murdered. Just because he was gay does not make it any more sad than a straight person who was killed.

    221

I live one town over from Oxnard and this whole thing is crazy. Oxnard has a shooting or stabing like everyday but a kid so young to do this to another young kid is so disturbing.

  22. suse says – reply to this

    222

You're such a phony cocksucker, Perez……… So this story breaks your heart,,?? This shit happens everyday, but you never mention it. Oh, yeah, this time the kid may have been gay, so it breaks your poor heart. Get a life. What about all the other kids dying everyday. Asshole!

  23. stevo says – reply to this

    223

Re: Melissa from Atlanta – K obviously, you don't understand the severity of the situation at all. They are probably going to consider this a "HATE CRIME" we're talking about something very serious here. Do you recall the riots in LA in the 90's? what did all that stem from? Get a clue. This is much more different than the regular daily homicide that happens in that screwed up mess of a land you call a "country".

How horrible that our world has still not grown to fully except EVERYONE! Can we just learn to tolerate people no matter their lifestyle, color, religion, etc? RESPECT - learn about it!!

  26. kids need to have self esteem says – reply to this

    226

The local news here showed an interview with a girl that suggested that the boy who was killed had a crush on the boy that shot him. So the shooter couldn't deal with a gay kid liking him. He didn't have enough self esteem to shrug off the obvious jokes that would get made about him ( since a gay kid liked him, he must be gay, too, right?! …) that he felt he needed to kill this boy? Needed to show he was tough? This is absolute craziness. My heart breaks for the whole situation. the boy who was killed lived in a group home/facility, so besides being gay he already had a F'd up home life- who knows why he lived there, but I'm sure he'd had enough trauma in his life before he met up with judgemental bullies at school. I also feel bad for the boy who shot him. Too bad his family never taught him to be ok with himself & no matter how others live their lives or the words they say you always have to be strong & do the right thing. As a parent I hope my children know that middle school, high school - these are just little blips in your life that will be over soon, and most likely you will not see 99% of these people after your teen years, so who gives a crap about what someone wears, says or does, as long as they don't hurt you- IGNORE IT. and more than anything else , BE TOLERANT.

  33. Annie says – reply to this

    233

i bet it will come out that the suspect has engaged in sexual acts with a male, and he shot King as a way of trying to prove to himself that he isn't gay…or something like that, i'm having trouble wording what i wanna say…

the same thing happened at my college. this football player beat up this gay guy…then it came out that they were having sex together and he was scared the guy would out him…

  34. cj says – reply to this

    234

Yes, this is tragic. I have to say I find it somewhat contradictory when you say "this breaks our heart" yet you make a living out of mocking and humiliating people on this site. If you really cared the consequences of bullying, wouldn't you stop doing it yourself?

your really one to talk about "loving one another" dude look how you make your living. you profit from the misfortune and personal lives of others.

you have alot of power and a great opportunity to use it for good rather than bad. I challenge you to find a way to do that this year.

this is soo sad, i live in oxnard and this event has devastated a lot of people. honestly im not ashamed to say that there are a lot of ghetto ass people who live here. i wouldnt be surprised if this kids parents tought him to hate. there are soo many close minded lame ass people who live here people just need to leave the gays alone. hmmph

  38. Doctor says – reply to this

    238

I guess it is because. Some people are not talented, they are not intelligent, they didn't have opportunities in life, they are bitter, very humble, some don't see life as healthy people do, some people are transtorned, some people do not have a clear vision, some people use toxic things and become crazy….we are all animals with instincts, even though we have faith in god, or some don't.
People who ask themselves that are people who don't see life the other side of life in which people live in horrible conditions, and never learn to love or another way so…it is impossible. They do harm, they just don't care about others. So others in order to prottect themselves, stop loving others.
Life is not a spiritual life..we are animals trying to use our intelligence, restrain our instincts even though we were made like that.

  43. Student says – reply to this

    243

Why no press on the shooting that happened at my school last Friday 2/8/08 in Baton Rouge, LA resulting in the deaths of two nursing students????
The two women that were killed had children. Now 5 children are without thier mother. How about getting some press on that and helping to raise funds for the innocent children? It is truly a tragedy when you are at school, learning and someone busts through the classroom door and kills you for no reason.

  44. m says – reply to this

    244

I bet King realized he was gay himself and was in a way jealous that he wasn't that open and hated himself for the way he was. So he killed "himself"

  45. Perez (doesn't) Suck! says – reply to this

    245

OMG, I actually agree with Mario this time. My heart goes out to the victim's family. It makes me fearful to send my child to school. When will this madness stop? It will only get worse if Obama is elected president. Wake up people!

    249

This story is just disgusting! As a parent I am appalled at what some of these kids get away with! I hope the suspect gets not only tried as an adult but also as committing a hate crime, because the sentence is much harsher that way.

I blame not only the suspects parents but also the school administration since they were aware King was having problems with other kids at school!

It would be a nice lesson for the "straights" if the gays decided to start shooting them for being "straight"!

    251

This breaks my heart, where do kids aquire so much hatred? I have a gay friend and I fear for him all the time because the area I live in has so many back country hicks who have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than cause some trouble…I don't think it gets any better either, these kids were only 15 and he already has so much negativity and hatred affecting his life! It just proves that people fear what they don't understand…and fear leads to hatred…it disgusts me.

wtf. a couple weeks ago, three kids were shot at a school not far from mine. drivebys aren't a rare occurrence. why is it such a tragedy for this school to be shot up once when high schoolers all over the country are constantly in much more imminent danger?

sure, work hard to make sure something like this never happens again at that jhs, but put a shitload more federal and state effort into preventing violence in places like dc, detroit, st louis, chicago, baltimore, and other urban areas.

Yes I am very aware of the situation and aware of what is going on. I am not saying that it is not a terrible thing to have happened. It is horrible…but I am just saying that there are also other senseless acts of hate, abuse, etc that happen all of the time and just because it was gay person murdered doesn't make it any more sad or tragic than the many other people who lost their lives for absolutely no reason at all.

    278

Ok, to all the people who live in the area saying they never say this coming. Uh, it's Oxnard for christ's sake. Isn't Oxnard one of the cities in Ventura County with the most gang activity? Where Colonia street is located. A street so full of gang memebers you can get shot just for driving in the area. It makes sense to me that a bunch of middle schoolers who are brough up with a gang mentality are capable of intolerance of others. If their siblings and parents are teaching them to hate others at an early age whether it be because of race, different gangs, or sexual orientation, the fact that something like this happened in a city like Oxnard is no suprise what so ever to me. I work in Thousand Oaks, which is located practically next door and I never lock my car. But I know what kind of area Oxnard is and I would never dream of leaving my car unlocked or even walking a far distance in the dark alone. So for people who have been to Oxnard and know what it's like. This isn't suprising in the least.

  79. Juju says – reply to this

This really is depressing. It's a shame that some politicians are against hate crime legislation pertaining to our gay brothers and sisters. :( The only reason this child is dead is because he was gay, that he dressed differently!?!?…and I hope the pertpetrator is held fully accountable.

a)where were his parents? make up and dresses, they shouldnt have let him leave the house like that, its common sense, and before anyone says he should be able to wear whatever he wants, thats not the world we live in so welcome to the real world
    b) there is an entire continent (africa) that is being destroyed and you only posted this story cuz the kid is gay. There are plenty of worse things your site could be showing to try to make a difference. It seems like your saying this incident is more important cuz the kid said he was gay. Dont get me wrong i do love this site.

If you are not from there or have not lived there .. then you have no idea what you are talking about. I grew up in Oxnard.. its not Beverly Hills but its not all bad. Your comments are unfortunately for you, are very ignorant. This type of crime happens through the United States. Not just Oxnard.

This is a travesty. In my opinion when one hates this much i.e homophobia
it is is the fear that perhaps they might be gay themselves, that drives this hatred. So all of you homophobes, relax, your just gay yourself!
It is ok, come out of the closet, the world is becoming a lot more tolerant in this day and age. Thank GOD!

while gun control is a serious issue, i don't think that's the point of this whole thing. the main, and most important issue here is learning to respect one another. can you imagine if your life was 5 times more threatened just because you come out as a homosexual? the supposed gay boy had the guts and pride to come out… to be proud of who he is. what's his reward for that? 2 shots in the head from someone who couldn't accept it. RESPECT & LOVE… that's all we need in this world to survive, and we can't even deliver these simple things.

Green is wonderful school and to have something like this happen is so unfortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and everyone else in our hometown who has been affected by this tragedy.

i live about 20 or so miles from oxnard in ventura city. we heard about the shooting right away. it was terrible. i know a lot of kids who know the guy who shot him. i can't believe something like this would happen. and that you would write about it. thank you perez =]

okay you people criticize perez for spreading this world of hate. I do admit that that is somewhat true - but its you people who read them. You people are the ones who allow Perez to say hateful things about these famous people. If we didn't read them, he wouldn't write such awful things. But we do, so we are all apart of this world of crime and we just need to know how to stop it.
