This is so sad! I remember being made fun of when I was in Jr.high. That was in the early 90's before kids brought guns to school. This makes me ill! My thoughts are with his family.
when will you americans learn that guns are dangerous! until you ban any random having a gun you will see this kind of tragedy frequently!
I can assure you, this is not his parents fault. I am related to the young boy who is still on life support. He was not at that facility because he was abused. The most kind and gentle kid ever. The family is heart broken.

I was born and raised in Oxnard. It is a depressingly dangerous place where youth violence/gang culture has gone way out of control. This is just one of many instances in which innocent children living in Oxnard are subject to murderous violence. Eight year olds caught in drive-bys? Yeah, just another hallmark moment from the 805.
this just about breaks my heart. i myself am a jr high student. this school is just a hop skip & a jump from my school. i knew the victim. he was a great guy. its just so sad that this is what our future promises. it shows how immature & unsensitve & cold people can be. my best wishes & condolenses go out to the family & friends of Larry King. This is heartbreaking! Poor kid. He was just being himself and was basically killed by someone who felt threatened by his sexuality.
I feel so sorry for his family. Something needs to be done about bullying in school.

This is really so sad. All of this could have been deverted if someone in 14 year olds home comunicated with him regarding bullying and how not to discriminate against other students. Being a teen and being gay is so hard for these kids. They have no one to relate to. Parents need to educate themselves on this matter. And the schools need to educate themselves so they can bring this situation out in the open istead of ignoring it!

I live in oxnard and this is very very sad. The poor kid was killed because he dressed "more female" like then other boys, and thats why they picked on him and that one boy killed him cause he just didnt like him. its so very very sad. they worry about gangs with guns. Now we have to worry about our own children with guns. CHILDREN! my daughter was suppose to get a Pink hunting gun when she was old enough to go to the shooting range …i think i will have to tell grandpa.. no guns please, even if they are for hunting. Its just to dangerous!

This is very sad, and it's even worse, that there's no oil in Haiti, otherwise this country would've invaded them too. Nothing comes anywhere in this country about Haiti, but kidnappings are rampant there and if relatives don't come with the money soon, they killed they anyway they decide and fast. Like a month ago, they killed a 7 years old boy, that was kidnapped and the family didn't have the money to pay the amount they were asking. I know somebody, that her uncle went there to visit relatives, kidnapped and since he lives in the USA!!!!!!!! they decided he was rich, the relatives didn't have the money, they decapited him. Sad, but true. That's life in Haiti…….

Let me get this straight…Do you people actually think this story is MORE heartbreaking because the kid was gay? WTF? So now it's sadder to be killed because you're gay than for any other reason? my mother's a vice-principal at another junior high in Oxnard. Horrible tragedy. There is tons of gang violence over there. We thought it was gang crimes when she told me about the shooting after it happened. To find out its about the students sexual orientation is even more sickening. this is absolutely horrifying. there was also a shooting at a university this week. i went to class today after reading about the shootings and i looked around the campus at my college and realized that there were no security officers ever around. i think that schools need to realize that this is a problem and step up security and come up with emergency plans. in my english class there are two exits that are right next to each other, there would be no way of escape if something like this were to happen. this is a problem that can not be ignored.
#28 Becca, You are absolutely right. My nephew decided at 13 that he was "gay" and wanted to grow his hair long, paint his nails and wear feminine stylized clothing. My sister and her husband took him aside and told him that he might be OK with who he is, but there are too many young kids who won't be. They reminded him that most of the girls in his grade school weren't even allowed to wear makeup, so why should he. In hindsight my nephew, who is now 19, is glad they took the time to speak to him honestly and frankly. He now lives a happy life with many friends of both sexes, but they are old enough to understand the complexities of life…something they were not able to comprehend when they were 15. I do NOT condone what the basketball player did to this boy. It was wrong and would have been wrong not matter what the reason. If more parents of gay children took the time to provide "guidance" and survival skills to their children, we'd have a lot more well-adjusted gay adults.

Maybe there would not be so many gun shootings in America if there were some gun laws put in place. It's probably too late now though as it's out of control. How many more people have to die before something is done. We had 1 shooting massacre in Australia a few years ago, and that was enough for the government to put gun laws in place immediately. We have had anti-gun laws in Australia for ages now. We don't have kids shooting kids in school here. Maybe someone should step up to the plate and get rid of guns in homes. They are not safe near children young or old.

I'm embarrassed that this is where I grew up (haven't lived there in 10 years). I was amazed at my HS in that town, being in S. CA, I can think of ONE openly gay person out of a couple thousand students. It's truly sad.

Hate is taught and I feel that if people want to teach this to their kids, go to a deserted island somewhere so that we people who love each other can walk around without thinking we're going to be victimized because we're black, gay, or of a religion that most don't agree with.
Does it break your heart because the kid was shot or because he was shot because he was gay? I don't think it's fair for people to say that some murders/crimes are worse then others because of a motive behind it such as being gay. If your son dies, no matter what the reason is, the person responsible should be charged the same no matter what.
Thank God, I don't live in America, this seems to be happening daily now in the States. Really tragic and sad how our youth are dying becasue of stupid acts that could be easily prevented.

While it's true that my hometown is not the safest place to be (is anywhere???), it's hardly the shithole you make it out to be. Yes, gangs are a HUGE problem here but anyone with half a brain should be able to recognize that this particular incident had NOTHING to do with any gang of any sort. The shooter was from a beach neighborhood full of million dollar homes that has a reputation for breeding bullyish white kids. I don't know the shooter or his family and cannot comment on his background or financial situation, but I think it's pretty clear that this tragedy had nothing to do with gang shootings or Colonia. Its a sad situation for everyone involved.

Sadly, this child was taken off of life support and is now gone. The 14 year old suspect has been identified. I apologize I can not remember his name. The suspect is going to be tried as an adult for the charge of murder, hate crime, along with using a firearm. OMG, where does a 14 year old get a gun?
