The former Baywatch babe visited the Brigitte Bardot foundation for animal rights to support its fight against baby seal hunting.
Anderson displays the on-line petition, aimed at the Canadian government, her native country.

I think it is very discriminatory that you are fighting against something you know no nothing about. If you actual took the time out of your day to stop bashing Atlantic Canada and instead looked at the rules and regulations involving the seal hunt, you would realize that killing white coat baby seals is in fact ILLEGAL as is the barbaric tools these groups use in photos from the 1970s. These wildlife groups put such fake stats out there, it is ridiculous. Paul McCartney didn’t even know what Atlantic province he was in when he appeared on CNN last year to argue with Newfoundland’s Premiere.
You are coming down on a tradition. In Atlantic Canada, we have been doing this for generations. Back long ago, it used to be our only meat resource in our frigid winter weather. We used the fur as a currency in trade. It is a livelihood of a whole group of people down here. Let’s go after the people who kill chickens and cows to make a living also. My uncle is actually part of the seal hunt. I mean, no one likes to kill a seal by clubbing, but it is actually less painful for them. I know I'm going to get like a hundred posts calling me inhumane and probably more vulgar than that. If people are worried about the hunting of baby seals they should stop, if someone did kill a baby seal they could lose their house and their car and probably be incarcerated, the same as if someone illegally poaches a salmon. Without the seal hunt people would starve. People tell eastern Canadians to get jobs and stop mooching off of the rest of Canadia and when we provide for ourselves with the hunt we are called inhumane. We've given up on trying to appease the likes of Heather Mills Maccarthy and now we're just trying to survive. Sure, I like animals, but I like humanes more. Seals don't have a substantial natural preditor in atlantic Canada, if they became overrun there would be no fish stocks and that would mean no whales, no puffins, no seagulls, etc.

First of all, shes from canada so i'm sure shes got enough knowlegde about what they need and what they dont need to do. Seal hunting is cruel and I cant believe anybody could actually do the physical act that these hunters do. They are not killed instantly most of the time and its a complete blood bath for all the babies and other seals to witness while they try to get away. I really hate how humans are, I think its been about US long enough…all we do is pollute the air and tear down wild life. Maybe we should be killed off for all the damage our massive population is causing?

I understand the position of being respectful of another nation's culture and customs when suggesting changes in policies for the humane treatment of animals and I write with the utmost respect for the beautiful country of Canada. I think it's a beautiful country. I've been there many times and even have family that has dual citizenship there. However, if we, as civilized nations do not make efforts for change that's the same as saying we want everything to stay the same and we think we have no responsibilities to our planet and it's inhabitants. I realize some people do not think they have a choice, but I feel there is always a choice. We should look to progress for the sanctity of life- ALL life. No, I am not for animal pelts being used by designers for clothes. No, I am not for greedy profits at the expense of animals. Those are my beliefs that I am entitled to because of the great nation I live in. My choice is to ban Canadian seafood and when I am aware of injustices based on my moral values for life, I will do my best to implement other humane choices for animals and green choices for our earth. And thank God there are those who give a voice to beings who do not have one. Animals are suffering because of a lot of the imbalances we caused to this planet. We have abused the earth by overfishing, polluting, killing at will, and stripping land away from animals. Aside from these wild animals intense suffering and our universal conscience, simply speaking, I am for the preservation of animals and our earth because I am for the preservation of us. This earth is already starting to respond with natural disasters and weather changes. I think it's only going to get worse. What will happen when it is too late? I feel we are each ultimately responsible for our action or inaction at all levels and I hope my message will be inspiring. I think ahead about future generations of all animals, the human animal included, and our planet, not just me and my immediate family. Let's just kill humans then and eat them if there is no difference between a dolphin, ape, dog, etc. and a chicken and a cow which is livestock. Dolphins, etc. are high on the food chain an are very intelligent AWARE creatures. Seals are wild animals. we do not need them for food. Why go there? Sorry, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! The white coats have not been killed since the 80's. Perez I love reading your column and I enjoy what you have to say but I have to say being from NL I wish you would do a little research into this issue and see that PETA and WWF make a lot of money for their "higher ups" by the propagada they produce about the seal hunt, conservatively there are about 3 million seals off the coast of NL and if this population is not control there is going to be major problems. I do not mind people who are vegan and promote healthier ways of life and lifestyle but I think attacking one of the smallest hunts in exsists with made up facts is very sad. Especially by a women who has done more damage to women and their self image is very sad!
It is interesting that no one discusses the large seal hunt of the coast of Africa! People do some fact checking before you speak on an issue!
Even though it's harsh, starvation is NATURAl, clubbing, etc. is not. We are not God. There has to be better solutions for all. These animals SUFFER. A lot of them, perhaps half don't die and then wind up drowing to death. We could fling statistics back and forth forever. To all those people out there who don't know - you cannot kill the cute little baby white seals. It is illegal to kill those pups. So all of those posters that you see are misleading and not true. The power of "cute" animals is amazing… nobody is complaining about baby spiders…. fracking idiots!

I live in Nunavut, and the seal industry is a way of life. I encourage anyone to come visit, and see for one's self what seals mean to them. It is a food source, clothing source, light source(oil) and heating source. Just because there are other options out there, doesn't mean everyone has to use them!These are traditional people, using traditional methods. Seals are dead when they are skinned, many of them still move for a long time after their heart has stopped because they have a swimming reflex that goes hay-wire. It's like a chicken that gets it's head cut off. That is why when you watch those videos it appears as if the seals are still alive, and yes, I have had to sit through those videos time and time again, so don't say that I haven't tried to see it from your point of view. Also, the seal hunt is VERY carefully monitered. There are severe consequences set down for hunters that, even accidentally, violate the regulations set down for the humane killing of seals. Eastern Canada spends, literally, millions figuring out an exact number of seals that can be hunted as to put the natural wildlife balance in check. How many boats have you gotten into to test the PH balance of Atlantic waters? Do you know who eat seals besides people? Orca whales, sharks, and polar bears… none of which live in Eastern Canada. How do we keep the growing seal population from destroying the population of other cod preditors? Seriously, I dare you to give me one logical answer without calling me a vulgar name or telling me that I'm barbaric for having an opinion.

A friend of mine who is from a small Newfoundland out port community told me the following:
A large male harp seal wouldn't leave their shore. It was pretty much going around barking and threatening the people whose homes were close by. It ripped the bumper off a pick up truck.
Think an animal like that couldn't rip your face off?
And I agree, if an animal had its skin ripped off while still alive it would probably feel it. And while I agree, making up facts is fun, seals are not skinned alive.

Seals are wild animals who are being indescrimatley slautered because you feel they eat "your" fish. You say seals are not endangered, yet your fisheries have given the same quota for killing as it has in previous years, there has been no consideration given to the iceflows meting and a reduction in the seal pups making it! And yes the Japanese state that the Minke whales are not endangered thats why it is ok for them to slaughter them for "scientific" reasons.
Also there are lots of folks arguing that the whitecoats are not killed, as previously stated they are not slaughtered until after they are 10 days old and start to lose their whitecoats, but their mothers are slaugtered, without their mothers milk they too will perish

Just to clarify - overfishing is also doing irreversable damage to the fish population. It's not the seals depleting our fish - it's the humans.
Also, it is legal for hunters to kill seals when they have only begun molting their white fur. They are still babies at that point. And the reason these young pups are targeted is for (the remainder of) their white fur.
And I understand it's part of the Canadian "culture". But slavery was part of American culture for too long a time. Until we finally came to our senses and embraced compassion. I would think Canadians would prefer to celebrate a culture of compassion over a culture of killing.
