Obama Plagiarizes Speech
Filed under: Barack ObamaBarack Obama has been criticized for plagiarizing a speech during a campaign stop this past weekend and not being upfront about it.
The similarities between the Democratic presidential hopeful and a speech made by by Deval Patrick, the current Democratic governor of Massachusetts, back in October 2006 are striking.
Barack blatantly copied several lines and linguistic speech patterns from Deval's "Just Words" speech for Obama's own "Words Matter" speech in Wisconsin.

. Obama is a passing fad and he is a fad the Republicans are more then happy to let people buy in to. The attack McCain made yesterday on Obama was just a sample of what is to come. He uses clever wording to convince naive voters that he somehow voted against the war when infact he wasnt even in the Senate at that point, so his “vote” was nothing more then an opinion. He has built his campaign on the fact that he is too fresh to have made mistakes and he isnt the typical Washington “staus quo”, but yet with open arms he accepts endorsments from the biggest of Washingtons “status quos” the Kennedys. The campaign isnt about race? Yet how many times prior to this election did the mention the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in any of his public speeches? Naive voters continue to place Obama on a pedastool of perfection, but come November (if nominated), he and his campaign will be completely dismantled by the Republicans that have been gently holding back there attacks in hopes that he will fall into there hands. Hillary is not perfect, but she has never claimed to have been either and that alone would be her biggest assest debating McCain.

Combine that with the writings and speeches of his close friend and pastor who converted him to Christianity, Rev Wright, and it could be a frightening package. We need to know more about this. Where is investigative journalism when our country needs it? They’ve all wimped out.
If Senator Obama wins the nomination, I’m voting for Senator McCain. While I don’t agree with him on many issues, what you see is what you get with McCain. No false promises and no demagoguery–just a humble public servant who happens to be a war hero.

Obama has the walk and the talk, the problem I see is that the talk comes from the mouth and pen of Ted Sorenson who was John F. Kennedy’s brilliant speech writer.
My concerns are for our country now facing what is surely the most important vote we all have, and who we put in the White House.
Now is the time for experience not swagger, now is the time for leadership and not another man’s words and ideas coming from the month of an untested politician named Obama. We need to wake up to the fact that we need a leader who has experience and the brilliance of Hillary Clinton.

The fact is, even if he did steal the line from another candidate: the content, the sentiment bares repeating as many times as possible. It is a valid and important point no matter who utters it.

Obama was actually borrowing a line from a speech made by a friend of his (Deval Patrick) which he openly acknowledged. Patrick spoke directly to Obama's speech writers and suggested using language similar to that in a speech he had given in the past. Obama also has already acknowledged that he should have been more explicit in crediting the source although Patrick himself does not believe credit is necessary. Read the Monday New York Times for more on this. I love Perez but this is not the scandal that he suggests it is.
