Why do people love American Idol? What is the apepal????
It's the Cinderella story aspect that appeals to most people, right?
For example, there was Carrie Underwood - who went from farm girl to Country superstar after being crowned the champ.
Well, a number fans are up in arms because it appears that Idol is straying from its supposed roots this season.
Turns out that several of the contestants this year have already been given a shot at the big time and failed.
Idol hopeful Carly Smithson recorded for MCA, which sunk more than $2 million on her debut disc, then dropped her when it didn't sell. Another contestant, Kristy Lee Cook, signed with Britney Spears' production company.
What's up with all the rejects????
Idol rules do not exclude people who have had deals in the past…you just can't be under a CURRENT contract to compete. Sounds lame to us!
Fans argue that Idol should have been more forthcoming about the 'professionals' who are in the race for the title.
If people don't like you the first go around, why would they like you the next time? And, Idol exposure doesn't guarantee 'success' (i.e. Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks).

They should not include anyone with previous records. Thats why Chris Daughtry is a true idol because he came from working at an auto parts store to idol and now look? talent at it's best.

Idol needs to keep it the way it was initially set up to be - REAL amateurs with a shot at the big time
This isn't rocket science. People may like the contestants on the second time around due to the AI exposure. Not difficult.
At this point people need to let it go.
AI is not there to teach people how to sing. Carrie sang when she was given the chance, but she could sing before AI and knew it.
But I'm not cool with anyone who has already had a cd/deal and could not make it. I thought AI would be a singers first deal/cd, and they could not be under contract with anyone else.
If she can't sing the public is going to vote her off fast enough.

That logic is so stupid/shitty. For one thing we have no idea why some of the more established singers weren't able to launch successful career i.e. sell millions of albums –I think that's how Perez gauges success. Maybe the artists didn't have a marketing machine affiliated with them–after all I'd never heard of any of these people before. Idol would give any one exposure. And just because someone hasn't made it in the mainstream doesn't mean he's a failure who's been rejected by the public; or that he's unworthy of the show.
Hey Perez, you probably know this already but Leona Lewis (winner of Britains X Factor) whom you champion was in the same position. She had a lucrative record contract and put together and album but it wasn't successful.

The point is all of them ain't THAT famous and have been miserable looking for work, being dropped from labels etc, but they got talent and if they are going to entertain us music lovers I don't give a fuck because THEY EVEN MAKE THE SHOW MORE INTERESTING! None of these people are professionals. They have been given chances and sucked it up then. They are still trying to get their feet in the door.
Not only Leona Lewis.. the runner up to her on X-Factor was on television before x-factor. And one of the people who auditioned this year was the former singer for BBMak. They're getting ringers because the ratings are slipping.

Now admittedly, I've never really followed the series, but if the premise is supposed to be about someone making their dreams come true, then so be it.
Nothing wrong with someone trying to do whatever it takes to get there.
Studios are notorious for not taking artists seriously, so some of these "non-virgins" may have something genuine that was never really allowed to develop.
Give them a chance, and if they suck, let suffer like the rest of talentless hacks thrown to the wolves.

i was just wondering if i was the only one who recognized the boy jason with the dreads. He used to be Cheyenne Kimball's boyfriend a couple of years ago. He was on her tv show on mtv and was featured in her music video for Hanging On.
