He may still be alive, but he's definitely no longer dictator of Cuba!
Fidel Castro has resigned.
The "President" announced his plans earlier today, in a statement published quietly overnight without advance warning in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma.
"I will not aspire nor accept—I repeat I will not aspire or accept—the post of President of the Council of State and Commander in Chief," said Castro.
The tyrant's brother, Raul, 76, is expected to take his place when the National Assembly meets this Sunday.
Fidel, 81, has not been seen in public since July of 2006.
His dark rule over the isle of Cuba lasted 49 years.

Now, all cubans will starve as the country will be divided into the rich and the poor …At least with Castro, no one starved, everyone had an education (unlike most americans), everyone had health care and authority was obeyed…No kids running into schools and shooting ppl. No child suicides because of the unnecessary societal pressures…The list goes on and on…. Capitalism will destroy Cuba as we know it… All thanks to who??? Yup, u guessed it….Los Americanos.

reading some of the comments i can just say that most of you don't know anything about cuba or cubans…. think about it, if people risk their LIVES to flee their so called "great country" how good could it be…. i live in fuckin miami, where there is a huge population of cubans & they are VERY HAPPY that he is stepping down. they were looking forward to this day for a long time.

THIS IS A TRUE STORY. i knew a guy that lived there & wanted to vist a friend in france. he waited for months just to see if the cuban government would LET him leave the country for a VISIT. & THEY DIDN'T!!.. think about it even further… his family was sad & saying goodbye to him, just in case his visa was granted because they knew that he may defect & not come back to lovely cuba.. get it, if he defected HE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO COME BACK. Yes they dont agree with everthing he does, yes they would like free trade but it was America that placed the trade embargo on cuba beacuse "they are communists"…..Do you see any such embargos on China, the largest communist system? This is a country where basic human rights issues are much more serious than Cuba political problem. I'm sorry P you're so VERY uninformed and opinionated . . um have you ever lived in Cuba? Well, let me enlighten you, I have lived and revisited Cuba many times, and the people who are still there under what you call a "tyrant's" rule are not necessarily unhappy. They may not be thrilled with their situation, and that's debatable, but hundreds that I've shared time with, they are not necessarily unhappy or ill-content. UNLIKE THIS COUNTRY, those people have guaranteed health care coverage, home and jobs (Castro doesn't tolerate unemployment). Now, you go talk to the homeless people on the streets of your fantasy world in Hollywood and see if they wouldn't trade places with the Cubans that still live on the isle before you start casting stones. So yeah, the Miami Cuban's beef is that their riches were taken away by Castro's regime and Cuba had a glory day back in the 50s that was heavily fueled by Americans. However, the people who are still there tend to be the darker, afro-cubans and asian-cubans and, as usual they are the ones who never had riches in the first place. A white Cuban's persective about Castro versus a afro-cuban's (or any Cuban of color) perspective are often different . . you pompous idiot. And just so you know, that isle is about 55% afro-cuban while Miami is about 86% white Cuban.
