why is this embarassing for jack black? he didn't write the movie. and the director is the acclaimed frenchman michel gondry. i highly doubt he spends his free time watching "the amanda show" DVDs loooking for ideas he can pilfer. perez calling this a "scandal" is a fucking joke. he must be smoking crack.
so, the jack black movie actually has him accidently destroying all the movies at his friend's movie store because of the magnetization of his brain. they then remake every movie that the patrons want to rent. simple plot, but anyone who has ever filmed movies themselves could see how this could come to someone's mind, without watching the amanda show. plus the amanda show is a series of skits…this is an actual movie.
people act as though this is some big scandal! first of all i would like to point out that, though the GENERAL premise is the same, all of the specifics of the film are completely different. this clip is just of a bunch of "silly foreigners" replicating movies because, as they say they made them "much better." in the movie the main characters have an entirely different reason for remaking all the movies (jack black's character becomes magnetized and erases all the tapes in the store and needs to remake them to save the store). i also do not know if michel gondry actually ever claimed to have come up with this idea on his own or if he would even be wrong in claiming so. michel gondry is an artist and a very creative, unique individual. who is to say that he could not have come up with this similar idea of his own accord? it is not as though people have never come up with the same/similar ideas independently before!
come on, kids. let's not fool ourselves.
Why is everyone calling it a Jack Black scandel? He's just acting in it, Michel Gondry is the one who wrote and directed it.

Hardly - the idea of people filming versions of their favorite movies is hardly new - and i think this is just a big coincidence. I HIGHLY doubt Michel Gondry was watching reruns of the Amanda Show and thought it would be a good idea to steal…
trust me - it's not that original idea of a movie - and besides, his movie has a fairly different concept - they do their own movies because they were accidentally erased and they refuse to move to DVDs - not some foreigners who are doing it for fun…

do you actually know the difference between plagiarism and copyright infringement? if this movie were to do anything, it would infringe on the copyright of the amanda show. however, if there are substantial points of difference, which i would imagine there to be, a court would call this fair use, making it not a copyright infringement. people that make youtube videos PROBABLY don't have time to truly understand the law - you should know that.

This is the man resposible for "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind", "The Science Of Sleep", and several brillant music videos for Bjork, The White Stripes, Daft Punk, Beck + more. I doubt he would need inspiration from some crappy American TV show.

The concept of that certain skit on the Amanda Show is different than this new movie with Jack Black and Mos Def. The Amanda Show skit plot is just these foreign people running a video store with the movies that they made themselves based on real movies. In the Jack Black movie the whole reason they make the movies themselves is because all the movies were magnetized and erased. The Jack Black movie has much more of a plot than the skit from The Amanda Show.
