come on mr. Gondry's (writer and director) mother said in an interview years ago that when he was little he used to do recreate flicks. heck, I did the same when I was a preteen(did spanish talk shows and movies, so funny) and have videos to prove it. People have same ideas but it is who executes it first.

it'd be something completly different if it was some big budget movie that was copied, just because it's 8 years ago and a kids show doesn't take away the fact that it has been done before.
who cares, every movie in hollywood is recycled in some way or form. And i saw the video, its not the same. Read the plot outline in IMDB. Just watch the movie if you wanna watch it and if you don't, then don't fucking watch it my God you ppl act like this will affect all movies in world. And why is Jack Black being called out, he didn't even write the movie.
Give me a break. I personally think there's a good chance something such as this could be a coincidence. It's a pretty simple plot, so the fact that two people can come up with a similar idea is not so hard to believe. Further, the clip is two minutes. If they based their movie off of it, who cares? Thta show fucking sucked and i'm sure Jack Black's movie is going to kick ass. Fuck you!

It's not the same idea. In the Movie I think it's Mos Def has a magnet/some metal in his head and accidentally erases all the videos. On the Amanda Show they just sold their videos like that from the beginning, it was no accident. Also no one on the Amanda show liked the "new" movies better, but on the preview for the movie they become famous for their remakes. So, two ideas are similar but not the same.
Do you guys know what proof is? Who are you to decide what is proof? Are you litigators? Are you judges? No, your gossip writers who probably have not acquired an education in journalism so you have resorted to writing for perez. Get back to writing about Britney instead of trying to raise controversy. There is no scandal! Nickelodeon already knows because he's Tight with them. He's hosting the Nick Teen Choice Awards again. They know and I'm sure there was some sort of acknowledgement.

actually saw the movie "Be Kind Rewind" in November and last night at the Clifton Premiere. Even though the movie shows a similar idea of Jack Black and Mos Def making their own videos and selling them to the people in the town…that's not really the focus. The Director was more focused on Passaic, NJ. It was really about Passaic. Once people see the movie they'll see that whoever made that youtube video is an idiot.

No. "Be kind rewind" is a completely different premise— if you've read anything on it, then you would see that a. michel gondry is a genius and although they remake movies, it's nothing like THE AMANDA SHOW. The entire premise is that jack black's character is exposed to some nuclear thing and that is how he erases all of the movies. It's NOT A stoner type thing. If you're in new york (or, have the internets) check out the Deitch gallery's website– one of the coolest exhibitions i've seen in New york. Jack Black, Mos Def and Gondry should not even be compared to this.

Well it's not the first time Jack goes plagiarism. Nacho Libre wasn`t an original idea, it was based in a mexican movie named Fray Tormenta, so it's not like this is something unexpected from him.

i looked at the trailer for the movie, and it's kinda the same concept, but not. b/c on the amanda show the ppl were disappointed about not getting the movie they wanted, on be kind rewind, they wanted more.
this "segment" you see of the amanda show was an ongoing skit. as you can see from several different scenes, that wasn't just ONE episode. but i'm sure most of you will rant on anyway…

I highly doubt that the writers ripped the idea from The Amanda Show. Even so, Jack Black has been hosting the Nick Choice Awards and is very friendly with the network. I am sure that if they did get the idea from The Amanda Show they have full permission.

Plagiarism? Are we to suppose the idea of making a movie of re-makes is somehow the intellectual property of Nickelodeon? Its 2008 - the entirety of pop-culture is built on self-reference and doubling back toward something new. This is NOT plagiarism - this is detournement (google it).
The real shamlessness is found in films like "Charlie Bartlett" that have the pretense of originality when just trying to cash in the success of substantial films like "Rushmore" or "Juno".
