Ultra-Orthodox Jews protest in Jerusalem
An Israeli MP has blamed parliament's tolerance of gays for earthquakes that have rocked the Holy Land recently.
Shlomo Benizri, of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party, said the tremors had been caused by lawmaking that gave "legitimacy to sodomy".
Israel decriminalised homosexuality in 1988 and has since passed several laws recognising gay rights.
Two earthquakes shook the region last week and a further four struck in November and December.

Mr Benizri made his comments while addressing a committee of the Israeli parliament, or Knesset, about the country's readiness for earthquakes.
He called on lawmakers to stop "passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the state of Israel, which anyway brings about earthquakes".
Israeli court rulings in recent years have granted inheritance rights to gay couples and recognised same-sex marriages performed abroad.
Last week, Israel's attorney general ruled same-sex couples could adopt.

Why is it okay to write shitty stuff about every country except for Israel? This is not even an anti-Israel post. I actually read a serious new story that the Orthodox Jews in Israel have been up in arms lately anyway about the low birth rate in their country. They relate it directly to the increased gay community there. If there's one thing that Israel needs to survive, it's Jewish citizens. I think we will see a rise in the anti-gay rhetoric coming out of that desert hell-hole for a while to come because of this issue. This will happen in any THEOCRACY. This is why religious law is going to be the doom of us all, no matter if Muslim, Christian or Jewish. John Lennon was right! NO RELIGION!

Im guessing no one who commeted is religious. For Jews being gay IS wrong and punishable in the Torah. Why is this such a surprise? If one beleives all those bible stories, about the great flood because the people were so immoral why is this so unbeleivable?

YES, JCS, I do research. I read this article in a respected and peer-reviewed journal. I am actually defending Orthodox Jews to some extent, but apparently, you can't read. If me calling the Middle East a desert hell-hole is what bothered you so much, go live in a country where the 1st ammendment isn't the law of the land! I can call any country ANYthing I damn well please. I have two advanced degrees, one in history, and I think people who are fighting over a small piece of land because a book of myths states that "God gave it to us" are foolish.
