Britney vs the Police: The Claws Come Out!

aaaawenn16113751__opt.jpg

A Los Angeles county commissioner is attempting to pass new legislation - dubbed "Britney's law" - that aims to crack down on those paparazzi that are out of control..

Well, LAPD chief William Bratton thinks that's a crock of shit.

He says:

"What we need is Britney Spears to stay home instead of traipsing all over town. That would solve the problem. We don't need additional laws…. I've got laws coming out my ears to deal with this issue.

What you have is several young women in this town and several young men basically making fools of themselves and tying up not only my resources but the resources of the media that would do better covering legitimate stories instead of a bunch of airheads running around out there….

Quite clearly some of these characters so favored by the paparazzi are clearly in need of services. Not police services, but psychiatric services.

We agree with the Chief - to a point.

Yes, these celebretards are partly to blame, but you gotta face the issues at hand. Though we wish they would, they aren't gonna get all boring and stay home. They live for the attention and you gotta deal with it.

that's bullshit !!! any fool can see the britney is a caged animal.

It's like the chief thinks it all about "staying at home"….how old is he? draconian is not a strong enough word.

This isn't a judgement call on Britney's "character"…it's basic human rights.

A citizen of this country, no matter WHO they are, should have the unquestioned right to leave their house, go to the drug store, to the mall, to the library, to the…
anywhere, without having a crowd of rabble rousing hooligans (to coin a term from the Cheif"s era) verbally taunting and basically aggravating you and hunting you down like an animal. The only REAL reason, I believe, after all is said and done, that Britney SHOULD NOT have her kids, is that the paps make is 100% unsafe for the parent, so do you think they care about placing two children's lives in peril ???

If you can't see that, you are part of the problem. THE END.

    304

So, what the cop is saying is that he just wants Britney to stay home…and then she wouldn't have the problem with the paps. Whatever! Lets see anyone try to live their lives and conduct their daily routines with people blinding them with their cameras and jumping in front of their cars. It is insane. Go ahead and make the law…but you have to take one away too :)

    305

celebs should be able to live there lives like idiots just the way we do….
and britney is getting the help she needs….

    306

Britney needs to just stop playin'! She was never like this before her and Kevin broke up so what, now she goes loco cause her man's gone?! Find some new ass and move on already! We get it, you exisit, big whoop!!

  7. kelsey says – reply to this

    307

I disagree with the chief. While I do think that Britney's outings were excessive and a cry for attention, you can't expect her to never want to leave her house instead of her assistant, or family.
If I can leave my house for a dinner with my family, or run to the store for a magazine, she should have the same privilege. Whether she, or any other celebrity, is doing this for attention is not the case at hand. She's an individual in a free country that should be given the same rights as any other citizen.

  8. Meg says – reply to this

    308

Well, he's right about the media. But I'm very disappointed in the reading comprehension of the majority of these comments.

Bratton wasn't referring to Spears becoming a "caged animal" where she becomes "a prisoner in her own house." He was referring to the fact that already strained resources are quite simply, being wasted.

Try being the Police Chief of one of the largest and most expansive urban areas in the United States, and quite possibly, the world and you'll quickly realize that the paparazzi and protecting "celebrities" (and I use the term LOOSELY) should be AT THE BOTTOM of their duties.

More laws will not ease the problem, it's up to the media and us, the audience, to say enough. If there's no demand, the paparazzi's meal ticket ceases to exist.

And I'm sorry, Britney does not have a life. There's a reason why she goes to Rite Aid, or Starbucks.

  9. Courtney says – reply to this

    309

Okay… so is he saying that celebs shouldn't be allowed out?! lol Like.. just because they're celebs, it doesn't mean that they should have to stay home. Obviously they know that the paps are gonna be trying to get shots of them 24/7.. it comes with the celeb status.. but something DOES need to be done about these insane paps. They cut people off, they run red lights… its ridiculous!

  10. Fuck Perez says – reply to this

    310

You're a fucking idiot Perez. Los Angeles is one of the biggest cities in the US, and there are a lot bigger problems in that city than celebrities trying to go out in public without getting harassed by the paparazzi. Police cannot worry about this celebrity shit, it is a waste of time and and a waste of taxpayer money. If these celebrities want to go out in public and cause a fucking scene, they should spend the money to pay private security companies to protect them, it should not be the work of the Los Angeles police department, nor should the general public take a part in paying for their protection/safety. If these assholes really crave attention like you suggest they do, they should cover the costs of roaming the streets with no particular agenda (Especially in the case of Britney Spears). You're an idiot for thinking that the LAPD should take a second of their time to take care of these fucking people. They should pay the cost to be rich and famous, not the normal, hardworking people in society. So get a fucking clue you douche, celebrities should take responsibility for their own fucking problems, not the rest of us.

  11. chrissy says – reply to this

    311

I totally agree with him…there is wayyyyyyyy more important stuff in the world than her.
But really she does need to get it together n the paps need to get a life …i think celebrities should do photo shoots and that's how pictures should be about …not them getting stalked by crazy no lifes.
She shouldn't have to be locked up at home because of the paps following her and creating all the drama and scenes.
Celebrities should be known for their work and if they want to have their pictures out everywhere and talk about their life I think that's what interviews and photo shoots are meant for.

  12. milo says – reply to this

    312

thats such B.S.! (and i dont mean Britney Spears) britney and the gang of crazies should be free to do what they want, NOT "stay home" like this IDOIT thinks they should be doing. who the crap does he think he is? is this or is this not a free country? what a douche!

  13. Dice says – reply to this

    313

I'm with the Police chief. If you don't want paparazzi in your face, then stop wandering aimlessly where you know they'll be. Don't make laws for them, let them deal with it on their own!

  14. Tessa says – reply to this

    314

I like this law. Britney may or may not be doing it for attention she obviously has a mental condition! We know that more than half the people in this world would hate to be ATTACKED by the photographers each and everyday. There has to be a boundary here people… I mean seriously… the press needs to get a life! And let Brit have hers!

  15. SoCalGirl says – reply to this

    315

Although in my personal opinion some of these people do live their lives in a way that results in a raised eyebrow, by no means is the answer for them to become shut ins and never leave their home. What an absurd thing to even state! You are rich and famous - now stay home for the rest of your days on earth! - HA

  20. Tracy says – reply to this

    320

Something has to be done about the papparazi but i don't know what would actually work. It's pretty pathetic that Britney can't even go to a drugstore with out these slimeballs following her. What's next pictures of her taking a shit! Who the fuck wants to see this stuff.

  21. Nightmare Wife says – reply to this

    321

If they live for the attention then they have to suck up the consequences. Let's see how Britney feels about the attention in 10 years with all those crotch shots floating around out there.

  22. Melissa says – reply to this

    322

This guy is awesome! It's about time someone spoke the truth about these attention seeking celebutards instead of kissing their ass and feeling sorry for them. This law is unconstitutional.

  23. mimi davis says – reply to this

    323

celebretards tip off hte papparazzi themselves so why should taxpayers pay for that and why should taxpayers be put at risk for the egos of Hollywoodretards. no reason at all.

  24. chriss says – reply to this

    324

Yes there are many celebs that go out for attention but I do not think Britney is one of those celebs.

I hate when people say celebs need to stay home, what is Britney to do? Be a prisoner because people can not leave her the fuck alone? That is not fair to her nor any other celeb who just wants to go out and be normal.

I go out every single day because I can not stand being in a damn house all day and if I had people bugging me like she does my ass would be carrying a tazer gun

  25. Lesley says – reply to this

    AMEN CHIEF BRATTON!!!!!

  26. toine says – reply to this

WTF?! WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO STAY HOME. SHE'S A FUCKIN AMERICAN CITIZEN JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE HERE. FUCKIN A, GIVE HER SOME RESPECT AND THE PRIVACY SHE DESERVES!!

  27. WTF says – reply to this

    327

Whatever! Who is any one to tell Britney that it is her fault they are being harassed. We are not just talking about Britney but all celebrities, particularly women. This guy is a complete fascist and is just following suit with a common stereotype in society that women are responsible for the actions of men. It's fucked up that rather then attacking the real problem, the paparazzi, this guy is insisting the solution is for the women to "stay in their houses". Britney is not perfect but it's not her fault that she is being harassed like this! I think people should look at the overall picture and what this douche bag is insisting about society!

  28. MK says – reply to this

    328

Re: chris – I agree. I don't think she wanted all the attention in the beginning. I think all the attention is partly to blame for her being a nut job now. I wish she would stay home but people have rights in this country to go and come as they please and the paps put EVERYONE in danger not just britney.

  29. opi says – reply to this

    329

Why should the taxpayers of LA have to pay out $25,000 to escort ATTENTION FREAK Brit to the nuthouse again? Why divert officers from REAL crime, when she takes her son shopping on Robertson Blvd, PAP CITY, just to get attention for herself? Pay for your own security guards, attention HO.

  30. READ-A-BOOK says – reply to this

    330

Yes, that's right! Stay at home, Brit, Brit, get well, read a book, and encourage all of the other celebs and wannabees to get some education, by socially aware, conserve gasoline, plant a garden.

  31. ValerieSara says – reply to this

    331

Re: eddy – Oh really? How about she missed her court date to regain custodial rights, because she was "scared" of the paps? That's right-she got out of the limo and then went back in claiming the paps were frightening her. Please. How about she YELLS and swears at the paps when they are snapping away-THAT is complaining- and an hour later she's ordering them to buy her Strabucks, has them change her flat tires, instructs them to guard the restroom door while she pees and God knows what else in there and, of course-my personal favorite-she beds them down. You need to keep up with her manipulative antics a little more closely.

  32. Pergetta says – reply to this

    332

This is exactly what her parents should be telling her.

She is a selfish spoiled bitch with a rotten attitude. She doesn't care about her neighbors, people on the street when she drives, her kids, etc during her little escapades outside her house — but she goes on these stupid aimless drives and visits because she wants to, even if there is no other purpose than getting attention.

And her stupid ass sister has the same spoiled attitude. When that neighbor of Brit got upset at Britney at Starbucks, Jamie Lyn yelled at her if she didn't like it, then she should move. This is the same entitled attitude that Britney has — she doesn't care at all about others and is only concerned about her skanky sloppy self.

No one is suggesting that she becomes a recluse, but she knows she causes a commotion when she goes out, but she doesn't care, because she gets her attention-fix, even if there is no real other purpose for her travels. She also has the means (i.e. income and assistants) to do the chores and errands that the rest of us would love to not have to do in our daily lives, but she goes out and does them because she knows she will get the paps following her, and then she makes it even worse by dressing up bizarrely or acting out strangely to make sure that they keep on following her on subsequent visits.

  33. melanie says – reply to this

    333

I think the paps take it too far! Brit is just trying to live her life and has every right to drive around as she pleases. The paps usually just record her doing nothing special, why do we want to see her shopping, going to gas stations, and driving? They don't need to drive way over the speed limit and run red lights to get these not so special shots! And in my opinion the police chief is being an ass blaming her, I do understand there are more important problems in L.A. but someone can really get hurt by the paps recklace driving.

  36. Lock her up or ship her out says – reply to this

    336

No stars are stupid enough to go out in public all day long driving from gas station to fast food, to convenience store, to Starbucks, day in and day out, everyday, making sure they have a trail of trash photographers chasing them 100 mph. This is Britany's choice. She chooses to put others in danger so she can get her picture in the news at any cost - even flashing her privates - whatever it takes. She is mentally retarded and should be banned from LA. Taxpayers should not have to pay for her protection or for additional protection for the public from her dangerous driving and habits. Ship her back where she came from!!!!

  37. Jamie Maggio says – reply to this

    337

let Brit see her kids! i love her soo much, you have no idea. i completely understand she's going through a rough time, but i know she'll pull through and still be the pop queen that she is! Love You Britney

if the pap just left britt alone the chick would come to her sences, take her meds and be fine. fuck if a camera followed me around all the time i'd freak the fuck out too. leave the girl the fuck alone.
dont they have other things to do, shit.

  39. maddison says – reply to this

    339

I understand all the hype but we are all human and know what is right and wrong ,and following Britney to every convience store and Starbucks she goes to is wrong for her overall life and also if she does it to get attention, none of it is positive. This world would be a beter place if we followed her in to a homeless shelter where she spoke to the children, or a hospital with cancer patients, some celebrities are doing that. She and the world need to Concentrate on what we can do to make the world a better place, ya this may be cheesy but RIGHT!!.

  40. connor says – reply to this

This, really, is an outrageous, offensive and unprofessional comment coming from a public official. It's equivalent to blaming a victim for her own rape. This guy needs to apologize - unacceptable!

  41. No fair! I want a law named after me! says – reply to this

    341

Fuck that stay at home shit. If I want to ride around in my fucking car, I would do the same damn thing. Fortunately I'm not Britney Spears and I can to that. It's the fucking paps who are a menaces. They really should pass some sort of law. Not just because of this shit Britney's been going through with the paparazzi, but because this shit has been going on for way too long–since before Princess Diana died in what 1997; that should tell them something! This is something that should have been done a long time ago. If this guy believes the paps are taking up valuable time, he should fine the hell out of them–maybe that'll make them stop.

  42. OMFG, this guy is living in the Renaissance ages says – reply to this

  43. geez says – reply to this

    343

no, the dickhead chief is just mad he's under criticism and scrutiny for not handling the situation in LA better. what more could i expect coming out of some asshole cop's mouth though? wow.

  44. marynuggs says – reply to this

    344

I think that just because they are famous doesn't mean they should be forced to stay home. She did everyday things. Got food, went to rite aid, and the papparazzi followed her because shes the hot topic of the past year LOL! They follow even the people that do not want to be followed (Remember the Goldie Hawn article in that Aspen Newspaper? She hates the Papparazzi!!) So don't blae the celebrity. Blame the police chief who doesnt know how to get situations like this under control.

opi, but the difference is that she pays MILLIONS of state taxes to california AND property taxes etc. she, like any human being, DESERVES basic RIGHTS to be protected and laws passed so that she doesn't NEED an escort. What do you contribute but your mouth??

  46. hsr says – reply to this

    346

Deal with it? Are you fucking serious?!?! I need attention too but unlike Britney Spears, i have a REAL life with REAL issues and NO money to help me deal with it!!! Im so sick of hearing about her "problems". Fuck she needs to get it together quick (with the help of all of the resources that she has) or just GO AWAY !!!

  47. hsr says – reply to this

    347

And how can anyone compare this common nobody to Princess Diana? Britney should be hiding her face from shame. She has represented herself terribly! Those poor babies of hers. Anyone else, it would take years to get their children back, acting the way that she has towards them. Makes me sick!

You gotta be kidding me. We pass the buck and lock up all famous people so the piss-er-rottens won't cause a scene. These broke back wanna bees, hoping to make enough money for happy hour by sstalking famous people…so the answer is anyone they want a picture of must stay home behind closed doors???? ?Huh???? A piss-er-rotten puts his foot under Brit's front wheel and the word is she drives recklessly…Huh….Even a child knows that creates an ouchie. Or do we always blame Brit….Logic folks…common sense…got some??????

  51. deedee says – reply to this

    351

No actually the LA police department does not have to deal with. Celebrities going out to promote themselves is the business they are in and they should be providing their own security. Tax dollars to the police department were not intended to support their celebrity promotion business. While the police are tied up with this they cannot respond to actual emergencies. It would be timely for a criminologist to do statistical analysis on how many people die from crime related incidents because the police response time was inadequate due to bubble headed celebrities creating a pile up. These could be generated by researchers in criminology. I mean they do this for crime related activities related to gambling etc. I wish they would so the public and the celebrity could see how pathetic they are. Oh and the paparazzi as well.

  52. deedee says – reply to this

    352

Re: geez – LA has a big sense of entitlement then. Celebrities need to get their own security for their self promotion business. They know how to travel in high profile and how not to. Tax payers money is not intended to provide security for them. It is intended to provide response to crisis in a timely manner. They cannot do this because of the BS that celebrities create for their self promotion. Although I am sure that some police would respond to a celebrity before they would respond to a child at risk in a domestic or something of that nature. Afraid of the high profile BS that celebrities can create for them.

  53. mel says – reply to this

    353

Everyone who disagrees with the chief is an idiot who has no clue how the real world works. Britney has cost the city over 20000$ in tax payer money that could be used to helping innocent victims. How would u feel if u were victimized the police couldn't help as well cause they were busy protecting celebrities? They are police not body guards.obviously the ones who are sticking up fo britneys right to go out and waste tax payers money are nothing but kids who are gonna stick up for and dumb celeb rather than what's right.

    370

Since the 1950's, people have had a fascination with stars. Despite the fact that it is slightly bizarre to follow someone elses life obsessively, its certainly not "their" fault (the stars). It is a public fascination, which has snowballed. I'm pretty sure that even if celebs stayed home 24-7 the paparazzi and the public would still be at their doorstep vying for pictures. This guy is obviously a douchebag.

  72. barbie says – reply to this

    372

Hollywood has the worst rep for this because the paparazzi seem to rule the streets there. Most other big cities dont have those people camped out everywhere & they should be forbidden to camp out in some of the finer establishments :) Half of those guys are not even photographers, they just come armed with cameras! next random people, street people and even stalker types are going to start posing as paparazzi and turn it into an even more dangerous situation. LAPD, Beverly Hills , etc. need to start issuing $$ tickets for the paparazzi loittering? $$ :)

The paparazzi are completely out of control and not scared to endanger themselves and others (including the celebrity they're stalking). Yes, some sort of measure to control these vultures is needed.

How typical. Um she can't even stay home because the paps stalk her there and cause traffic at her home. And they trespass and are peeping Toms. Not to mention the fact that if she has to go to court, that is required by law so how in God's name is she supposed to stay home! Heck even that guy on the Office had jury duty and had to go to the courthouse! What a moron.
