Giorgio Armani attacks Vogue's Anna Wintour
The Italian designer Giorgio Armani set fashion tongues wagging after he criticised the industry's reigning queen Anna Wintour.
Speaking at a press conference to promote the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition Superheroes, which he is co-chairing with Ms Wintour, Mr Armani said he could not understand why so many people dislike the US Vogue editor, claiming he was "indifferent" to her.
Not content to leave it at that, Mr Armani detailed what he thought sparked this dislike, referring to her championing of the US and French fashion industries and alleged lack of support for Italian fashion.
Standing with Ms Wintour, who supposedly once declared the Armani era over, he said: "I was told she said that, I hope that she didn't," according to reports in The Guardian.
Distancing himself further from his co-chair, he said they had different taste in clothes.
It was not immediately clear what inspired Mr Armani to break ranks with the traditionally more subtle air-kissing and back-stabbing atmosphere of the fashion world by criticising the industry's most powerful journalist to her face, but Ms Wintour's recent request that Italian designers group their shows more closely together to help US editors save money was not met with joy.
The top Milan shows once stretched over seven days but have now been compressed into four, leaving some lesser-known designers unable to attract top international editors to their shows.
Ms Wintour, whose dragon-like image was caricatured and brought into the mainstream in the film The Devil Wears Prada, based on a thinly-veiled roman à clef written by her former assistant, wields significant power in the fashion world and is often the brunt of criticism.
English-born Ms Wintour, who projects an image of fierce calm from behind her large sunglasses and sleek bob, has dominated the fashion industry for nearly two decades.
Mr Armani's work will appear alongside designs from John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler and others in "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy", a show that highlights the use of comic book imagery in fashion design. The exhibition opens in New York in May - assuming the co-chairs are still speaking to each other.
For a "Fashion editor" she sure has had the same tired out hairstyle long enough hasn't she. And her choice of clothes does suck. You would expect more from someone who claims to be what she likes to claim herself to be.
I interned for Anna Wintour for 6 months before she broke me down with her blatant insults and disrespect, and in the end the bitch won because I walked away from the fashion industry. No wonder most of the designers and models are coke heads. With devils like AW, who wouldn't need to live in a drug induced stupor.

I think she's an idiot attempting to get press. People buy Vogue, some people care about Vogue… but overall, when she leaves her house or office — she tends to look like a wealthy bag woman. Look at this picture. There is no thought in her outfit. She looks like a gawdy Jewish woman. The purple in there is disgusting. What's with the hair? Note to Anna: time for a new look.
I think longer hair would give her a softer look. The bob highlights her wrinkles and sharp, pointy features. It ages her even more.

Generally I don't like Armani's clothes because he seems to design clothes for women that are too masculine. Or clothes for women that are straight up and down with very little or none at all princess seaming. Armani is a big enough name to criticize Anne without having to worry about the repercussions though.

People don't forget that Anne dislikes heavy people. Andre Leon Talley said that on Oprah's show and Wintour made Winfrey diet before she would allow Oprah to be the cover feature of Vogue magazine.
As much as she is considered a fierce bitch, who else could take her place? Who has more charisma and strong connections with all the arrogant, pain in the ass to deal with designers than she does!? People say she's been in the industry for far too long but if she was just a stupid bitch with no tastes in fashion, then how could she stay this long!? Perez, i don't think you understand what Armani actually said. 'Indifference' is more akin to 'doesn't give a shit about' rather than 'dislikes.' He doesn't care whether AW lives or dies because she does nothing to promote Italian fashion. So he doesn't adore her, nor does he loathe her. She is irrelevant to him.
Actually I think that there was a misunderstanding due to an erratic translation from italian to english. Saying "lei è indifferente per me" (she's indifferent to me) means that i think that there's nothing wrong with her… Definitely far from an offense..
