This guy wasn't shit that's why. What was his contribution to American Cinema? Nothing. Therefore, no mention. No surprise, Perez.

  2. sarahsmile36 says – reply to this

    202

So sad. They also left off Roy Scheider, in so many great movies and most memorably in "Jaws", who just passed away, too.

Not cool at all. They need to answer to that. Losers.

  7. BMH says – reply to this

    207

I JUST CHECKED THE DATE THAT BRAD RENFRO DIED.
HE DIED JAN 15TH OF THIS YEAR.

EXACTLY A WEEK BEFORE HEATH LEDGER!!
    BRAD WAS TOTALLY SNUBBED!!!

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!!

  8. L says – reply to this

    208

Actually, it said on the screen that it included anyone who died before February 1st this year. And it's not true that's it's only for people who have won or were nominated for Academy Awards, because Suzanne Pleshette was in the tribute and she has never been nominated for an Oscar. Also, it doesn't make any sense that he wouldn't be included due to drugs, because Heath Ledger also died of an overdose. So you're all wrong with your assumptions, and why Brad Renfro wasn't included we'll probably never know.

  9. um, yeah says – reply to this

    209

Was he in anything Oscar worthy?

  10. Elis Roussseau says – reply to this

    210

they were recognizing those who had died in 2007 up to Jan 31 2008—
Renfro died after that. Duh. [2]

  11. amanda says – reply to this

    211

brad dies january 15.and the memoriam i guess was for those who had been nominated or won an oscar and the guy from jaws death was in february

  12. Stacie says – reply to this

    212

I know!!! I was sooo pissed!!! They are supposed to pay tribute to EVERYONE who died this year!!! That is bullshit!!! Brad Renfro wasn't the most famous actor, but he was a GREAT actor who was just getting big… just like Heath Ledger… and people made WAYYY too big of a deal about his death (which was also just as sad and tragic) That's just wrong on their part.

  13. Brianna says – reply to this

    213

Evem the British Academy of Film and Television Arts mentioned him in a tribute during their awards show but the Academy can't? LAME

  14. Hollywood Hottie says – reply to this

    214

BTW, Roy Scheider died in February so he'll be honored next year.

  15. malay says – reply to this

    215

he died a week before heath ledger
    its a shame!

  16. hi says – reply to this

    216

did they skip Roy Schider also?

  17. bothcoasts88 says – reply to this

    217

maybe he wasn't a voting member of the Academy? i think they only show people who died who were members of AMPAS.

  18. Louie says – reply to this

    218

that's sick. i can't believe they had the audacity to do that.

  19. Bird says – reply to this

    219

That is a list of AA nominees or winners who have died. Heath was nominated for BBM.

  20. ctina2277 says – reply to this

    220

He died the week before Ledger so he met the cut off and I fully agree, that shit was fucked up. I was waiting for his name along with Ledgers only to realize that he'd been snubbed.

  21. Amy says – reply to this

    221

I kept waiting for them for show him and they didn't….I wonder if it was intentional………he dies the week before Heath so he should have been included.

  23. Robin says – reply to this

  24. Jewy says – reply to this

    224

Maybe he was not Jewish enough for the Hollywood elite to care that he died.

  25. Meg says – reply to this

    225

I said the same exact thing as soon as the tribute was over!!

  26. Spice says – reply to this

    226

OMG! Totally. Whoever doesn't know who that is should not say or be first. Lame. The guy is dead. Obviously you don't read perez enough to know who that is. Perez, we both picked best dresses tonight. I heart jen garners dress, but not her as much. But I totally loved Cameron's dress but can't stand her. So she gets no cred for the dress. But I could rock it way better than her. P.S. Minneapolis girl who whatched divas show on VH1. Janets our girl! The J.J./TL. (Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis)connection. Anyway, I think you are offically a comedian. Not a blogger. I'd pay to watch your stand up! Ha! Heart You! Kiss Kiss!

  30. KING OF MEAN says – reply to this

    230

I'll tell you, Perez, what's up with that…. the "Academy" just doesn't have enough time to list all the JUNKIE, HEROIN FREAK ADDICT COKEHEADS, so he didn't get a mention. Got it? I'm so glad he's dead… maybe his dead will inspire others NOT to do what he did. He shoudln't be honored, we should be frickin' THRILLED that he's dead. Thank GOD he's dead… JUNKIE!!!

  31. rachael says – reply to this

    231

he never won an oscar…so there for he didn't get a tribute…thats how it goes.

  32. tabatha says – reply to this

    232

he was in a movie that susan sarandon got an oscar nomination for…the client…definite snub

  33. jeremy says – reply to this

    233

why wasn't Heath mentioned? Brad "heroin head" was never nominated …….yet Heath was. I thought it was foul that they never mentioned anything about his tragic accidental death. His memory should have been in one of those "take a look back's" R.I.P.

  34. lola says – reply to this

    234

I noticed that and thought that wasn't very nice. He was an actor and at one point was considered the next Brad Pitt when he first started. He had a great performance in "The Client."

Tsk-tsk. Guess you have to be A-List to be cared about.

  35. Tiro says – reply to this

    235

    Fuckers

  36. edorn says – reply to this

Because he didn't win an Academy Award, and only people who have won an Oscar and have passed away were included in the memoriam…

  37. andrea says – reply to this

    237

to the idiots who posted before me, brad refro died the week before heath ledger so he made the cut-off date. however he never won, nor was he even nominated for an oscar and that is why he wasn't in the memorium. heath had a best actor nomination for brokeback mountian. you idiots

  38. TONYA says – reply to this

    238

YES I AGREE HE WAS SNUBBED….I GUESS CAUSE IT CAME BACK THAT HE HAD "ILLEGAL" DRUGS IN HIS SYSTEM MAYBE THEY CHOSE NOT TO PUT HIM UP THERE……WHO THE HELL KNOWS…..

  39. Lauren says – reply to this

    239

It couldn't be because of the drugs, because drug use is so prevalent in Hollywood and we haven't heard of them leaving out other dead junkies in the past.

  40. maria says – reply to this

it was oscar nominees and winners only!

    244

For those people saying "no one knew him" or "no one remembers him," I'm 24 and I knew of few of the people who passed away, which even included a stuntman, but I knew of Brad. The same thing happened in 2003 when Jonathan Brandis committed suicide, he was snubbed in the in memoriam tribute as well.

  45. Mirna says – reply to this

    245

The cut off was January 31, 2008, didn't he die in February?

  46. TONYA says – reply to this

HE DIED BEFORE HEATH….LIKE THE WEEK BEFORE…..NOT AFTER

  47. Jenna says – reply to this

    247

I am assuming they didn't show him because he was a drug addict and ODed… not a very good role model for anyone, regardless of the fact he was in films.

  51. Bohm says – reply to this

    Re: look

Brad Renfro died on January 15, 2008…so he died in plenty of time before the cut-off date. That is messed up that they didn't include him.

  53. Jenny says – reply to this

    253

He never had anything to do with the academy, douche shit. Check facts before you get pissed off about something.

  54. Nissa says – reply to this

I can't believe they left him out. That is terrible. I think it was rude not to recognize him. Still shaking my head in disgust.
    RIP Brad

  56. MORGAN says – reply to this

Re: Emily – He died about a week or two before Heath Ledger, and Heath was the very last one….so Brad should have been included.

  59. LL says – reply to this

    259

Because the segment remember members of the Academy of Arts and Sciences and those who have won or a been nominated for an Oscar. Although talented, I doubt he qualified.

  60. LookAtYou says – reply to this

    260

It may have been an innocent oversite, but It also could have been the only photo they had of him was a mug shot like you.

  61. worked says – reply to this

    261

Renfro died on 1/15/2008 and before Heath Ledger! To leave him out was tasteless! Also, agents where honored as well, so to say that ONLY nominated people are remembered is false. Renfro was a member of the SAG and was honored at the SAG yearly video tribute to the deceased. Again, a tasteless decision.

  62. LizzieHead says – reply to this

    262

My friends & I noticed that too, since he died during the qualifying dates, we figured it was because he wasnt a member of the 'academy'.

  63. Tiffany says – reply to this

    263

They did leave him out didn't they? I wonder what the reason was for that. That's sad.

  64. dot.dot.dot. says – reply to this

    264

    Indeed, that's bullshit!

  65. kristin says – reply to this

    265

Maybe you have to have been nominated for an oscar, or in an oscar-nominated movie to part of the tribute?

  66. Leslie says – reply to this

    266

I thought you had to be a part of the Academy to be included - nommed or awarded.

  67. Lauren says – reply to this

    267

It is NOT true that only academy award winners get shown in the memorium because they paid tribute to Chris Penn, Sean's brother, and he sure as fuck didn't get no oscar!

  68. Laura De says – reply to this

    268

Ouch. Hopefully an apology in in the works…

brad renfro sucks ass. if you like brad renfro then you should commit suicide

  76. Michelle says – reply to this

    276

I noticed too and I was pissed. I went to the Oscars website and I emailed them. You should too! They mentioned agents and people that deserved to mentioned but we have never heard of them, Brad deserved a mention. Here is what I wrote to them:

I do have a problem with this years tribute to the people of Hollywood that have passed away. Every year watching the faces of the departed is one of my favorite parts of the Oscars. Yet, one of my favorite actors was forgotten. Brad Renfro, who passed about a week prior to Heath Ledger was noticeably absent. It is sad to think that you have left out someone who has been a member of Hollywood since his youth. He has stared with the likes of Ian McKellen, Susan Sarandon, Scarlett Johanson, Thora Birch, and other talented actors. I am disappointed in the Academy and I think they should do something to make up for their lack of respect for what he did in his short life for the film industry.

  77. JAck Vades says – reply to this

    277

Not only did they leave Renfro out they also left out Roy Scheider, who did not die of a drug overdose. The guy was in Jaws, one of the most popular films of all time. In both respects it was shameful and the Academy should have to answer for that.

  78. northcdngirl says – reply to this

  80. mmm says – reply to this

    280

I also noticed that Roy Scheider wasn't mentioned either. I'm guessing he died too recently to be put in the montage? I can't imagine that he'd be skipped…

  81. Molly says – reply to this

    281

Yes! thank you so much for posting this.
i was watching it with my parents and was like what the hell! where is Brad.. my mom goes he is not as well known. im like that is such crap. he has been in the business much longer than heath ledger, and just because he isnt the most well known, that doesnt mean he shouldnt be on there. so f-d up!
there is no excuse for leaving him off. he was a talented actor who died long before he should have.. and im personally offended that he was left out.
    RIP Brad!

for the record, Brad passed away before Heath, at least a week before. He should have been honored also, but how many other people probably died that were not mentioned either. Its the fucking Oscars, it's all show!!

  90. quivapro says – reply to this

    290

and they snubbed roy scheider(sp?) from "jaws" as well. then directly after the commercial they did this thing with snippets of theme songs from movies and "jaws" was the first they mentioned. fucking amateurs

  91. bot says – reply to this

he didn't die after the cut off date. i remember because a friend was staying at my house when it happened and my friend left jan 31st. they should have mentioned him.

    292

Because he wasn't a past winner/nominee of an oscar and because he was a fucking nobody. I couldn't even tell you what movie/tv show he was in. Whereas Heath Ledger I sure could.

Nobody knows who Brad Renfro was.

The tribute specifically stated that it was for people that died between Feb. 1, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2007. He died in 2008. He will be in next years tribute.

Roy Scheider died on February 10th… after the cutoff… Brad died January 15th BUT he was not an Academy member.
