probably for the same reason that the only recent pic u have of him is a mug shot……the dude stared in very few movies long time ago….

  2. caity says – reply to this

    302

you people need to realize that was for academy award nominees/winners of years past that died. NOT all actors like the SAG/BAFTA.
and I believe Roy Scheider died after the "cutoff" of January 31st.

  3. brandy s. says – reply to this

    303

holy shit perez! i said the exact same thing. i am planning on sending a letter to the academy not like they will care but still. it was bullshit that brad renfro was not on there! total BS!

    u rock perez

    304

i thought the same thing! I was crying hysterically thinking about him waiting for it and it never came and i only cried harder. Such a shame. he was just as worthy as anybody! RIP BRAD

That's terrible. Now I'm gladder than ever I didn't waste my time watching that claptrap.

    Re: Emily
he died one week exactly before heath ledger did which was in january.

  7. You Idiots says – reply to this

    307

You idiots that are saying that he wasn't remembered because he was a druggie or non nominated Academy award actor are seriously delusional. You don't have to be nominated for an Academy to be remembered when you die, they simply forgot him in the memoriam. The tribute was full of people from actors to people that simply worked on costumes and set designing. Its the fact that you were part of this business that when you die, you will be remembered. Its unfortunate because he was a great actor. Very talented. He should have been recognized and him not being there makes the academy look like a joke.

  8. tammy says – reply to this

    308

OMG SOME OF U PEOPLE ARE SO DUMB. THEY PAY TRIBUTE TO YOU IF YOU HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR OR HAVE BEEN IN A OSCAR NOMINATED MOVIE. SUZANNE PLASHETTE WAS IN AN OSCAR NOMINATED MOVIE AND SO WAS CHRIS PENN. BRAD RENFRO WAS NOT. HE DID NOT DIE AFTER THE CUT OFF DATE.YOU PEOPLE NEED TO CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING STUPID. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH WOULD GIVE YOU THE FACTS!!!

hey whats the e-mail… im thinking of sending them one too.
i know its not a big deal to most people, but really what they did is such crap.
    im pissed.

    310

I think it was only for people who won or were nominated for Oscars.

  11. MarlieP says – reply to this

    311

I was sooooo pissed off when the montage was over and he wasn't in it…

Not surprised though, since the academy is so fucking dumb…

    P.S. Johnny was ROBBED!!!! AGAIN!!!!

  12. amy says – reply to this

    312

the least you could have done is put a picture up of him that wasn't a mug shot… that may have been more appropriate considering he's dead. I agree though, he was a promising actor when he wasn't in trouble so I believe that he should have been on there. Not cool.

  13. Bleau says – reply to this

    313

Perezita, you're absolutely right!!! That's F*cked up!!! He was still an actor with great promise.

  14. LaurieBoston says – reply to this

    314

Thank you for noticing that. I was pissed. That's not fair, but oh well.

  15. DM says – reply to this

    315

I was completely appalled that they did not mention Brad Renfro in memoriam at the Oscars! I know many people don't remember him because it seems like most of his more memorable films were made awhile ago, but he was still part of the industry. He brought to life some amazing characters and he deserved to be recognized for his tributes. Drugs are not an excuse for him to not be recognized at an event like this. My heart goes out to his family and those that remember him for the amazing actor that he was.

  16. DAnny says – reply to this

    316

HE was never nominated. you dummy

  17. emilie says – reply to this

    317

they snubbed roy schneider too…and renfro only made movies with characters like him…pervy, drunk and high.

  18. Erika says – reply to this

    318

because he was never in an academy movie, just tv movies and blockbusters. They only show people in the memorial slideshow that were somehow apart of the academy, in academy award winning or nominated movies…..

    321

I was waiting for it especially a tribute to Heath Ledger that in my opinion Cate Blanchett or Nicole (mrs freeze) should have announced… The show was boring anyway, including the DEAD Barbra Walters. I am waiting for JIMMY….

  22. MarlieP says – reply to this

    322

    Re: TMoney

It's not the case, Aaliyah was in the tribute after she died and she'd only been in 2 movies to that point, neither of which were nominated…

  23. gigi says – reply to this

    323

I noticed that he was missing too. What's up with that?

  24. tina says – reply to this

you need to check your facts. Chris Penn was not nominated for an oscar, but he was in an OSCAR NOMINATED MOVIE. Search the net and get your facts straight

  25. K says – reply to this

    325

I know! I saw that as well and I was shocked. They also snubbed him at the SAGs…

  26. Daniel Day Lewis says – reply to this

    326

HE WAS NOT A MEMBER OF THE ACADEMY!!! Therefore they did not include him in their memoriam. It wasn't because he died of a heroin overdose, so get that out of your thick skulls. He wasn't a part of the academy, plain and simple.

  27. michelle says – reply to this

    327

and just to let you people know …brad renfro died on jan 15th … says it on imdb and heath ledger died jan 22 … AFTER BRAD IDIOTS
GET UR SHIT STRAIGHT… also he probab;y wasnt included because he never won anything … the same reason why anna nichole wasnt mentioned…who died feb 8th 2007 … also verified this with www.imdb.com…….because they were not really recognized for anything… and anna was in a few movies… crappy ones but a few… but these 2 people werent good enough actors to be recognized… which is pretty lame of the academy to do because these people are dead now and there were many people in the world who loved them …..but that is stupid IGNORANT americans for you!!!! SELFISH

  28. You Idiots says – reply to this

    328

Also you guys are idiots for saying that Suzanne Plashette was remembered because she was in a oscar nominated film…um so was Susan Sarandon in the Client which co-starred Brad Renfro. She actually was nominated for the Oscar for that film so obviously her performance was so great because her character had to react to Brad Renfro's character since he was the main focus of the film. They simply forgot him and you guys sound so stupid with all the "he wasn't nominated" bullshit. You sound like you just watch the Oscars for ugly tuxedos and gowns.

  29. DivaLo says – reply to this

    329

Yeah really that is soooo bad poor Brad!!!!

    Bastards!!!

  30. MarlieP says – reply to this

    330

    Re: Sherri
The tribute isn't just for academy winners, its for every actor in hollywood who has died…as i said before, Aaliyah was in the tribute and she wasn't an academy member either…

  31. MP says – reply to this

    331

I suspect that Brad Renfro was not a member of the Academy and the tribute is to Academy members (there are only about 6000 Academy members). Requirements to get into Academy membership are unknown to me. He was mentioned in the SAG tribute, since he was a member of SAG, and as noted, the cut off was 31 January, therefore Roy Scheider will be remembered next year, since he died in February.

  32. Susie says – reply to this

    332

I think the memoriam people have to be members of the Academy.

  33. Molly says – reply to this

    333

okay seriously, we do not need any more comments about how he died after the cut off. that isnt the case. just go to imdb.com hello!
slash. uh, heath ledger died a week after brad and was on there so theoretically it should have been brad renfro and then heath ledger.
so stop saying things about cut off dates because the snub had nothing to do with it!!

  34. tex says – reply to this

    334

its b/c he wasnt oscar worthy. thats why.

  35. Jen says – reply to this

    335

i thought he WAS in it? oh well.. i loved him… like 10 years ago.

  36. bobo20 says – reply to this

    336

I noticed that too! They remember some kid from HOOK who no one knew but they forget brad??? he had a name for himself and it was sad to see they didn't put up there.

  37. ????? says – reply to this

    337

I do hope that they only left him out because he wasn't a member of the academy. He died a week BEFORE Heath Ledger, so saying it was after a cut off date is not a valid point.

  38. MarlieP says – reply to this

    338

    Re: Daniel Day Lewis

Not so much, idiot…the tribute is not exclusive to academy members…get your facts straight

  39. Jack says – reply to this

    339

Damn people, do five minutes of research before you make an ass of yourself on here.

1st. It is not a list of previous Oscar winners

2nd. Brad died on Jan. 15th

3rd. Heath died before the deadline (no pun intended)

THEY BOTH SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED

  40. MsLulu says – reply to this

    340

There has to be a petition of sorts to get someone in. When Andreas Katsulas passed away (The One Armed Man from The Fugitive and a great Television actor,) many fans wrote to the studio and to the Academy to get him in the reel for the movies AND for television. He didn't make either because he didn't get enough support from fans/fellow actors/actresses, etc. Thing is, most people don't know this, so they don't know to petition or to write in.

Extremely lame. He should have been included, even if many didn't know his work well.

  41. Miss A says – reply to this

    yup, that was pretty much
    fucked up!

  44. QueenzGoddess says – reply to this

    344

Regardless of how lost his life, he still deserved to be recognized. I had thought FOR SURE that I may have missed his picture flickering by, but apparently they really did forget about him. Tis sad.

  45. Heather says – reply to this

    345

    whoa, whoa.
Everyone knew Heath was gonna be the last person he showed anyway. Heath was a very talented actor, he still would've been an enormous lost if he hadn't been in Brokeback Mountain. Apparently, you haven't seen any of his other movies before BM! Besides Renfro went away after Tom and Huck… duh. I also got teary when I saw Heath… it's still so so sad.

  46. J.M. ROJAS says – reply to this

    346

I think its because the Academy never even nominated him, Its very upsetting because they presented a montage of people we lost young and it excluded him yet it did include whack post production people, I truly feel that Brad left a impact on society due to the roles he chose to play, he played roles he truly beloved in regardless of controversy or money. He truly died young. Everyone misses him.

  47. M. says – reply to this

    347

I know it totally sucks, but the Oscar memorial tribute is for past nominees, winners and members of the Academy… It was nothing personal.

  48. Eva says – reply to this

    348

They left him out because he didn't die in between Feb 2007 and Jan 31, 2008. Those are the dates they put up. He will be honored next year.

  49. Literate says – reply to this

    349

    People.
Brad Renfro died about two weeks before Heath Ledger.
If you are going to comment, please know what you are talking about.

  50. Sara says – reply to this

    350

I think they only do it for Academy members and I don't think Brad was one

  51. jessizzle says – reply to this

    351

a lot of people are saying its because he died after the cutoff date which is supposedly jan 31st but he died january 15, SO he would have been on it this year but i THINK its because they show people who have been honored by the oscars. as in awards or nominations.

  52. Jessica says – reply to this

    352

everyone he died janurary21 before heath and if heath was included he should have been in it too! he worked with amazing actors and deserves to be remebered

    353

HOLLYWOOD IS BORING. YAAAAAAWN. WHERE DID I PUT MY CUP. SCRATCHING MY BALLS. OH THEY FORGOT A TALENTED YOUNG MAN WITH A TROUBLED PAST AND UNSECURE FUTURE? OH. I WONDER IF IT'S BECAUSE HE JUST WASN'T FAMOUS ENOUGH? THEY PROBABLY HAVE TO DISCUSS WHETHER HE'S FAMOUS ENOUGH TO INCLUDE IN AN INTERNATIONAL BROADCAST, NOT IF HE'S PART OF HE ACTING COMMUNITY. ANYWAY, I HAVE TO GO FOLD SOME CLOTHES AND PUT THE DISHES AWAY. DID I MISS SOMETHING? OH THE OSSKERS? WHAT'S THAT?

  54. QueenzGoddess says – reply to this

    354

And to clarify he did die on January 15th… so this clearly was a snub, or "oversight" on the part of the Academy Awards. :/

  55. shelly says – reply to this

    355

that was total bullshit!!! he said all he ever wanted was to be a great actor and he was…even in death they couldn't give him the respect he deseved..sooo sad:(
glad i wasn't the only one who thought that was totally messed up. RIP brad

  56. You Idiots says – reply to this

    356

    Re: MP

I really don't like idiotic people. When you become an actor, after doing 12 hours on a film, The Screen Actors Guild sends you a card in the mail telling you are a member because you officially become an actor. You can become part of it just by doing 12 hours of filmwork. Theres millions of actors who are not the stature of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt but they are part of the Guild.

  57. Michelle says – reply to this

    357

    Re: Molly

I typed in Academy Awards in Google and went to the site. Then I went to contact us and wrote to them.

Hey everyone that says that they had to be a nominee, the agents they mentioned were never nominees. I think he was just snubbed like Perez said.

  58. Lisa says – reply to this

    358

I know the SAG awards honor card-carrying members who have passed in the last year, but don't the Oscars build a montage of those who have been nominated for/awarded an Oscar? Maybe that's why he wasn't on there and Heath Ledger was…

  59. yves. says – reply to this

    359

    who the fuck is he?

  60. student says – reply to this

    360

I know, I was really upset. He was in lots of well known movies. I wonder how many actors the academy decides are "unworthy" of notice in their tribute.

  61. lala says – reply to this

    361

renfro died in january…he should have been included if they include all actors, and not just nominees…but who knows

  62. jessizzle says – reply to this

    362

ok i just made a comment and said i THINK its because he wasn't nominated or won an award from them and i see that a lot of other people have said the same thing. And a lot of people are replying to them saying how incredibly stupid they are for that. HOW the fuck is someone stupid for guessing that that may be a reason? How would anyone know about that unless you breathe, eat and sleep awards show info. thats fucking lame. i guess they just forgot but i could be a "fucking idiot" for assuming that also. who fucking cares that much anyway. fuuuuck. p.s. "im fucking ben affleck" is hilarious

  63. gigi says – reply to this

    363

Would you people STOP CALLING HIM A NOBODY!!!!!!! He was a talented actor and if he didn't have an addiction to drugs, he would of been somebody. Besides, there were PLENTY of actors, directors, producers, etc. who were included in the montage that I didn't recognize.
Thanks for bring this up Perez. Oh and please find out if in order to have been mentioned, one would have to have won or been nominated for an Oscar.
    RIP Brad!

  64. Heather says – reply to this

    364

    also….why Brad wasn't on there…

Brad — never an OSCAR nominee or winner
Heath — OSCAR nominee in 2006

that's why Brad was not mentioned… duh

  65. QueenzGoddess says – reply to this

  66. Wendy P says – reply to this

    366

To all you people who think that Renfro's death came AFTER the 'cut off' date..PUHLEEEEZE!!! He died BEFORE Heath…about 2 weeks or so before! So thats not it!!! And I don't think you have to be an oscar winner or nominated for an oscar to have your death recognized! They just simply 'forgot'! DUH!

  67. mishy says – reply to this

    367

Thank you for remembering Brad tonight, perez. I am not thrilled that Brad was overlooked. I don't think it has to do with being a member of the academy or not being a member…I just think they plain and simple forgot him. It was sure as hell obvious to me, as I was waiting for his picture and name to come up, and then it didn't! Frankly I am pissed. Apparently many people noticed it and thought it was wrong. I'd love to know who to write where I can voice my own complaint.

  68. jessizzle says – reply to this

    368

Re: michelle – actually if you think about it, it would take hours to honor EVERY actor that died. There are so many that aren't "famous" but still amazing. Who's to say whether they are worthy to be recognized or not? Snobby elitists from LA thats who. (or so they think)

  69. KING OF MEAN says – reply to this

    369

Gee, I'm going to spend A LOT of my free time wondering why this FREAK COKEHEAD HEROIN ADDICT JUNKIE didn't get a nod…. it's just SOOOooooo frickin' tragic that this piece of shit is DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another dead JUNKIE, take notice, show-business folks…

  70. rock_sister says – reply to this

    370

Now that is some serious BS right there. Give the man his respect. He might not have been a mainstream actor like Heath Ledger was, but he was their peer, too. And he died a week before Heath Ledger did (January 15th), so it was between the cut off dates, so his name should have been there. The Academy should be ashamed.

  71. bekah says – reply to this

    371

oh gosh…so terribly sad just bc it was drugs doesnt mean you ignore your fellow peers!
He DIED JANUARY 15th people…not before the cut off
Heath Died january 22….Stupid…shows how dumb hollywood is

  72. BITCH says – reply to this

    372

THEY SIMPLY FORGOT HIM. YOU DONT NEED TO BE NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR TO BE ON THAT MEMORIAM…THEY HAD AGENTS AND EXECUTIVES SHOWN IN THAT TRIBUTE. AND THEY SURE AS HELL WERENT NOMINATED FOR ANY OSCARS. HE DIED BEFORE HEATH LEDGER. THEY FORGOT HIM.

  73. legs says – reply to this

    373

SOOOO disrespectful. I can't believe they didn't put him in, I was waiting to see his picture. He didn't deserve to be snubbed like that.

    just horrible.

    377

Yea what was up with that seriously

  78. ummhmmmm says – reply to this

    378

to everyone who says he wasn't great…. you are all horrible people. he was an actor, starring in a memorable movie (The Client) and so he deserved to be in the memoriam. i think his death was overshadowed by Heath Ledger which is sad b/c both left us so early in life.

    SHAME ON THE OSCARS!!

  79. Melissa says – reply to this

    379

because he was never nominated or won DUH!!!

  80. tyrant says – reply to this

    380

it's because the "in memoriam" section was referring to people who died in 2007. the oscars are for everything that happened in 2007, so he will be in next years memoriam.

  81. Michelle says – reply to this

    381

    Re: jessizzle

True, but he was pretty well known. More so than some of the set designers. He has starred with impressive people and he was a well known young Hollywood bad boy. In reading what everyone else has written, they too should have given some credit to Anna Nichole. She did act in one major motion picture and some indie films. I just think that Brad should have not been snubbed.

  82. Melissa says – reply to this

    382

BECAUSE HE WAS NEVER NOMINATED OR WON AN OSCAR HELLO PEOPLE!!!!

  83. Brian says – reply to this

    383

I am a little shocked as well, who can we write to?

  84. someonesmarter says – reply to this

    384

While it's very sad that this actor passed away in the manner in which he did, I understand them leaving him out. There are tons of actors who pass away each year, and if they included every single one of them, the awards show would probably double in length. This forces them to pick and choose, and the reality of the situation is that Brad Renfro has never been considered an "A list" actor. This doesn't make his death any less sad, it's just the truth.

  85. You Idiots says – reply to this

    385

    Re: jessizzle

Yeah you're right, you are stupid because the tribute was not solely for Academy Award winners, if you have a fucking DVR you would replay and see what the intelligent people are talking about. And it has nothing to do being a member of SAG because once you do 12 hours of filmwork, you automatically get a member's card. The Academy has 6000 members, and if you watched the Oscars, the Head came out and said almost 6000 are responsible for how the Oscars run and who gets nominated. And not all of them are actors, idiot.

  86. KT says – reply to this

    386

Thank you for acknowledging this, I could not believe no one picked up on it sooner so that Brad would be remembered at this ceremony. Brad may have had some problems in common with others in Hollywood, but he didn't have it so easy growing up. He was a great actor and it is so sad that he is gone.
ps-if you didn't know who he was go rent one of his movies instead of writing that you don't know on here. Apt Pupil and Sleepers are just two.

  87. Lisa says – reply to this

    387

They also left out Roy Schneider. I noticed they dated it this year…Jan 31, 2007-Feb 1, 2008. I've never seen that before. So I guess we have to wait to see them next year

  91. Not only him... says – reply to this

    391

That's sad that they left him out. They also left out the guy from Jaws.

  92. minke says – reply to this

    392

It's because only members of the Academy are recognized in that segment. He wasn't a member. Heath Ledger was.

    So do your research Perez!!!!!

And Brad was really a great young actor in my books :]

  93. Kate says – reply to this

    A shame….

  94. Mars says – reply to this

    394

    A) you're all idiots because it's not a tribute to dead Oscar winners or nominees, and
    B) he died before Heath Ledger, making him very eligible to be on this year's list.

  95. AJ says – reply to this

    395

He wasn't in the memoriam because those are all members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He would appear on one for the SAG Awards, but not the Oscars.

Being a movie star, doesn't make you an Academy Member.

  96. jeremy says – reply to this

    396

It doesnt matter who dies first. They are BOTH DEAD. RIP. However Ledger was a true actor/patriot. BRAD was a D list actor who was a popular favorite on teen bop mag back in the retarded 90's. Although both "actors" no one can deny that Heath was more amazing and riveting than brad "heroin head" could ever be. At least Heath took care of his baby………………..Brad had one and never took notice.

  97. voiceofreason says – reply to this

    397

Does it really matter how he died? He made a major motion picture with Susan
Sarandon. He paid union dues, why is his passing any less than the others than I have never heard of? HOLLYWOOD SUCKS!

  98. MP says – reply to this

    398

    Re: bobo20
The kid in HOOK didn't die, it was the make-up artist that was being honored. They showed the kid from HOOK amongst others whom he provided make-up for. The make-up artist was an Academy member.

  99. voiceofreason says – reply to this

Brad died about a week before Heath. That's why it was all the more tragic.

  100. Tiffany says – reply to this

You guys weren't paying attention! Brad died before Heath. BUT was Brad ever nominated for an Oscar? Maybe that is why Heath was included, (because Heath was nominated for an Oscar last year), and Brad wasn't. I am pretty sure that the Academy wouldn't overlook something like that. So, I think that is the case. By the way, Brad was on more than one great movie… The Client was really great. He was so young and gifted. I will also miss Heath's talent and humble personality. May they both rest in peace.
