The Return Of Lestat!

1003.jpg

Attention you blood sucking lovers (and we're not just talking about the gays)!

Ann Rice has had a change of heart and will write one more Vampire Chronicles book! Just one more.

About four years ago, an atheist Rice found God and was "born again." At that point, she vowed to abandon her sinister stories and write only of the Lord.

Why is she going back on her word?

The Queen of the Damned author justifies her decision by saying the book will have a definite Christian framework and a focus on the theme of redemption.

In other words, it's gonna suck - and not in a good way!

The final vampire novel will again involve the popular character Lestat (a.k.a the hottest vampire in lit) and a fictional organization known as the Talamaska that is responsible for investigating the supernatural. As Rice did, Lestat will be wrestling with the existence of God throughout the story. She says, "I don't see it as a violation of my promise, because I won't be writing about vampires in the same way."

Rice has already written two novels chronicling Jesus Christ's life. She plans to write a third installment in that series before sitting down to pen the final vampire book. So, don't expect to see last Chronicles book for a few years!

    1. duh, edward kills lestat. no contest.

    2. a christian vampire novel does honestly sound like a weird premise.

    3. The people who post on Perez honestly scare me. there is way to much hate and superficial shit in the world. (yeah i kno if i care about superficial shit why am i on this site? its addictive. but I'm not one of the people on here who post hateful malicious shit about people you dont even know so if anyone is reading this and wants to argue with me dont come at me with that.) People can find God and that doesn't make them stupid at all. I don't judge people that different than I am in my beliefs and by doing so (Athesis's or Christians) your making yourself look ignorant and pathetic.
I'm hoping someone reads this that disagrees with me (not #1 though because I'm honestly not going to argue on who the hottest vampire is.) that has enough brains to argue without looking ridiculous will reply to this.

    but I doubt it.

The book is bound to be crap. I mean, come on.. How do you write a Vampire novel with Christian undertones? WTF. No thanks. I'll be skipping out on this one. I liked the movie, though. Tom Cruise actually looked DECENT for once.

    107

this isn't too much of a departure, she already had one book where lestat traveled through time and visited heaven etc. and struggled with his belief in god and what his "life" is. i love anne rice and am excited about this. i will read it. most of her books have heavy religious undertones anyway. anyone who doesn't know that has obvioyusly never REALLY read her books.

  8. Flo says – reply to this

there is no K in Talamasca. And Memnoch the Devil already explored the idea of the Devil so why shouldnt she deliver a work concentrating on the opposite end of the spectrum….as long as she doesnt resurrect Mona (a character from Blood Canticle….most irritating fictional character i have ever encountered) then i say woohoo!! cant wait!!

  13. Rusty says – reply to this

    113

Great. Thanks for wanting to ruin the rest of the series for me, Anne. Just leave them alone and go on with your "born again" life, please. I don't need Lestat to repent and find Jesus.

  14. Yak says – reply to this

    114

    Uh, who gives a shit?
We all know Tom Cruise sucks sperm, not blood.

  15. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY STUPID PEOPLE IN THE ROOM??? WHY????? says – reply to this

    115

1- The talamasca is already in her books… as the organization that investigates the vampires…tale of the body thief anyone?

2- She already DID the christian view… Memnoch the Devil… she destroyed almost any Vampire worth reading about in that book… anyone recall this? Its a relatively large book for crying out loud.

3- I know MANY christians that enjoy the Vampire Chronicles. READING them, and BEING them are totally different dont we think??? I am certainly not about to become a mideval hoochie yet I find myself enamoured with movies or such a genre.

I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE when everyone gets so fucking stupid.

Oh and I am gonna let you all know right now, if you respond to me I am going to automatically presume you to be one of the stupid people in the room.

Re: georgie – Omg.. People I cant believe how ignorant and close minded some people can be!! First, writers write about whatever they want; its their job and thats how they make a living. We as readers read whatever we choose to read. Ok, easy facts, right? Second, the whole "vampire" idea has a religious theme itself!! Hello.. holy water, cross (which btw, always seems to be a "Christian" cross). So.. open your mind a bit, people!! Stop being so damn critical and negative to others' points of views that aren't your own :) . Oh, and calling people sheep.. hmm.. Have you read the book yet? No, but you are guiding yourself by prejudistic, pre-fabricated ideas. Who are the sheep now?

  21. Gail says – reply to this

    121

This doesn't make sence…she already wrote a Vampire Chronicles book with the story line of Lestats redemption - it was called "Memnoch the Devil" and it was about Lestat strugling with his existance and the meaning of life. I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, but I'm unsure about the possability of this new book.

  22. Marshmallow Fluff says – reply to this

    122

So that's why Anne Rice dropped off the writing radar… she's a religious freak now. Makes sense. A person of extremes. In ten or twelve years she will start to 'normalize' and make it appear as if she went thru a stage. Kind of like what she did with her erotic writing. Whatever… her writing really sucks, anyway. Christians can have her.

  23. Armond says – reply to this

and I can't wait to read the book.

  24. rude says – reply to this

    124

i know you don't read these things. but i'l have you know that i think it's very rude to say that a book would be rude just because it involves christianity. i understand you are an atheist, but that doesnt mean you have to insult other peoples religions.
Why do people always find it easy to insult christianity but no one has the balls to say anything bout islam? why don't you talk about cat stevens? coz you only denounce the religion in that (wrongfully)DOESNT relatialte when it gets insulted.
you are pathetic, i honestly believed someone as popular than you would be more mature than that.
you are a real disgraceful person.

I just hope that Lestat does not lose anymore eyes.

It was never the joy of my life having almost all of her Vampires spending time with the BOYS :  :

I had hopes she would write a book on his mother :(

Poor Anne, she has had horrible heartache with so much of her family dying, I feel for her but I am a Christian and I don't feel her books were blasphemy at all. I am glad that she is writing another one, I have missed them, but I wish she wouldn't feel the Vampire Chronicles had something to do with her hardships because that's nonsense.

Athesis/Agnostics: Can't ANYONE make an intellgent comment on this topic? I'd honestly love to see one.

Brahman, why would you kill us all? Does someone choosing to have faith in something affect you in some way? Live and let live. You don't need to be a douchebag about it.
Gaybe, Christian aren't supposed to hate gays. They're not supposed to hate. Hate the sin, love the sinner. Unfortunately we do have christians out there who miss the point.

So far the only judgemental people I see are the Christian Hate Brigade going on here. Funny. Always talking about religious people being judgemental, but yet they're more judgemental than the people they criticize.

P.S. Why is it being a sheep just because someone had a different viewpoint than you? Be yourself. But apparently if that "Being yourself" isn't like you then it is wrong. Again, hypocritical.

  52. An Anne Rice Fan says – reply to this

    152

    Acually Perez it's T-A-L-A-M-A-S-C-A

And Anne Rice DID NOT become a born again Christian, she lost her husband and
after growing older and older she forgave her god and vowed again she lost her Faith after loosing her daughter, if You READ Violin it's an almost tell-tale of her life and her feelings about loss…. she vowed herself again and found a new Voice.. It's the Fans that have begged for a new novel, and I can't wait.

Her faith had nothing to do with her stories, Lestat speaks to her like any character speaks to an Author…

Seriously, You need to get your facts straight before you start to report on stuff like this… your getting kinda sloppy.

  53. laurine says – reply to this

    153

Karen, guess what. You're not being very Christian. I think you need to read your bible a little closer and possibly look through the scriptures about loving your fellow man as you love yourself. Telling somebody they are going to hell as if you're insulting them is not going to make them want to gravitate to God. So yeah, good job,

  65. Loyal Anne Fan says – reply to this

    165

The Vampire Chronicles have been my favorite books for as long as I can remember, so as a loyal fan I am going to read this book. However, I'm worried. Vampires are often known as comic book figures but Anne transformed them into these dark Gods with a human conscience, these damned souls, fallen angels if you will, trapped in immortal bodies that can only sustain themselves by drinking the blood of mortals. They gave up the light and warmth of the sun for the base of immortality, they are surrounded by darkness inside and out. The search for answers, God, the meaning of life…a purpose. Anne made these vampires so…real. And I think part of it was because she was "lost" at that time in her life, she was in the darkness, searching for the light. And the vampire was the perfect way to show it.

Let me add this: I love Lestat. He's my favorite character in literature. I think that in a way, he's the embodiment of us all: flawed and perfect, beautiful and monstrous, spiritual and profane, wounded and broken, yet strong, sorrowful, yet happy, full of love and wonderment. He's vibrant, complex…well…alive.

Please Anne, don't ruin such a tragically beautiful creation. Lestat's not a saint…he never will be.

  66. Loyal Anne Fan says – reply to this

    166

    re=1602435]Re: Gail[/re]

Actually, thats not what Memnoch the Devil was about,I find that many people missed the whole point of the book.

The purpose of the book was to show how eager we all are to believe in something even if it was coming from the devil's mouth. I'm sure I'm not the only one who found themselves absorbed into Memnoch's story questioning "what if…". Lestat himself was there in person to be presented directly with all the answers, all the visions, and then had them yanked out from under him and left to wonder if this was real or if the whole story was just a flat-out lie and some game the devil was playing to amuse himself or toy with what may be his only worthy adversary.

  67. Loyal Anne Fan says – reply to this

    167

(…cont.)Then at the end we are left with no real answer, wondering what is real and what is lies. One of the best lines in the book is when Maharet says "its not all lies, not all of it, that's the age old dilemma". Basically, even these old and ancient vampires will never know the truth. Either way, we were presented with a tale of creation, god, and the devil, one that was presented as truth, and then was left at the end (by something as cheap and inarticulate as that note signed "Memnoch the Devil") that got us saying, "wait a second, this is fiction, this is Anne Rice, this isn't real." That is the true genius of the book. At the end you feel betrayed by Memnoch, you feel lied to and tricked, you feel stupid for almost believing his story…you feel exactly how Lestat feels. And thats what Anne did, she was our Memnoch, she tricked us all.

    181

Re: Stacy – OK, The vampire Chronicles and Lestat stand proudly among the ranks of great literature. Twilight isn't a bad book but lets be realistic here, its lacks the complexity and intelligence that The Vampire Chronicles do. Most of its target audience contains of dreamy teenage girls or romance craving moms. It will never make history the way The Vampire Chronicles did. Girls like Edward because his character is the typical "knight in shining armor". Reply #166 described Lestat perfectly: "I love Lestat. He's my favorite character in literature. I think that in a way, he's the embodiment of us all: flawed and perfect, beautiful and monstrous, spiritual and profane, wounded and broken, yet strong, sorrowful, yet happy, full of love and wonderment. All of you people need to take reading comprehension classes. All of her books deal with some inner struggle to fit into Christian standards. Did you just totally skip over Memnoch? That is the most obvious one, but really all of her books including The Mayfair Witches series deals with Christian themes. I do, however, think the woman has taken it way too far with this born again shit. I hate to judge, I've been a Rice fan for 15 years, but after Blood Canticle, I really don't hold out much hope for any of her new material. Especially not something that is almost definitely going to ruin such an awesome character!!

Re: Mandalyn – Calm down…but look at this: more people have died in the name of Jesus Christ than ANYTHING in our world's history. That scares me. Look at the war we are in now. Religion. Religion is the best and worst thing to happen to human kind. It helps keep many people sane and living good lives, however, it also creates wars and killing amost people who want everyone to see it Their way. No doubt, Jesus was an amazing person. But he was just that, a person. There is no definitive proof that he was the son of God or that God even exists. Let's all have our own beliefs and let people make their own decisions without forcing our own upon one another.

You are such an uneducated ass. Have you even read one single book of Anne Rice's???!!! Regardless of her spiritual beliefs she is an amazingly talented writer. The Chronicles were astounding in terms of depth of character, richly written prose and history. In order to critique one must read the writers works dumbass.. MAN i can't FUCKING stand you Mario!~ it won't be long and you'll just be another guy. I can't WAIT for that day.

Just because the book will have a Christian theme does not mean it will be bad. That is being very stereotypical. The story could be very good and uplifting. People shouldn't be so afraid of Christianity, and I don't mean organized religion, but of Jesus Christ himself.

Re: heather – I don't think its the theme of christianity that people are afraid of, but who is Lestat if not that Brat Prince? Anne used her vampires as metaphors for being lost in the dark, it just won't be the same if now they've found the light. The beauty of them was they they were tragic heroes.

Re: Amber – Are you kidding me? I've read all of the Vamp Chronicles and The Twilight series and I gotta say: Edwards a JOKE compared to Lestat. He'll never go down in history like Lestat did, he only appeals to dreamy teenage girls who fell in love with this "knight in shining armor" character. He is so bland and boring compared to Lestat, he lacks his complexity by far. One of my fav quotes by Lestat: "And my dark soul is happy once again, because it does not know how to be anything else for very long, and because the pain is a deep dark sea in which I would drown if I did not sail my little craft steadily over the surface, steadily towards a sun which will never rise." That shit's deep, son.

Re: Edward Cullen Sucks – Like I said before, different tastes. I've read the Vampire Chronicles as well and I still prefer Edward Cullen. Doesn't take anything away from the people who prefer Lestat, but it's not lunacy to prefer Edward.

Let's not forget about Kim Harrison everyone. As far as the fight between Lestat and Edward… well, Lestat was vicious. Edward is warm, loving and much more believable. I would still pick Jean Claude or even Asher over the rest of them though.

Re: KK – Jean-Claude is a cheap knock-off version of Lestat. Notice the french accent, the way he dresses, the shoulder length curly hair, the eyes, etc. L.K. Hamilton wishes she had half the talent and just a piece of Anne Rice's depth and command of the English language. I tried to read and appreciate the Hamilton books, but she stole so many of her ideas from Anne Rice it was pathetic…

Re: Chelsea – Yeah I agree, and that's great and all but whether you like Edward or Lestat, the fact is that Lestat is a far more complex and intricate character than Edward. And that's reasonable when you look at the authors, Anne Rice is on a higher, sophisticated writing level.

hmm..On the one hand I'm quite happy with this, on the other, bluh XD

The last few books of her Vampire Chronicles have already been heavily influenced by her renewed search for christianity. Buuuuuuut, lets hope she'll make it one that will at least be in the same line of suckiness as the last few, cause then they might be worth my time
