Let me CORRECT you! While it is true that African slaves were sold by their own leaders, the American/European institution that is chattle slavery was nothing like the "slavery" that Africans dealt with. They had a version of slavery most similar to indentured servatude where a person would be a prize of battle and then get assimilated into a tribe.
American slavery by far was more brutal and inhumane than anything Africans engaged in. And being sold by Africans does not justify the 100s of years of slavery that White Americans enforced on those Africans and Black Americans.
So with all due respect, please kiss my @ss! I don't blame White Americans for slavery. I blame racists of all races (including Black racists) for being @ssholes.
The reality is that White Americans have to deal with producing serial killers and being @ssholes to other races. Every race has their cross to bare. You have a history of treating other ethnicities badly, and Black folks have to deal with Flavor Flav being in our family.

I am never watching the Academy Awards again. The quality of the production this year was atrocious, just absolute shite. All the fact-checkers should be fired, the writers should be fired, and the producers should be fired. I don't even like Whoopi or Brad Renfro or Steve Martin, but they not have been omitted. Did the Academy think America would not NOTICE? I DO, however, have a major beef that my all-time favorite OSCAR-NOMIMATED actor Roy Scheider was omitted. Just because he passed a couple weeks before broadcastr- which is, I'm sure, the excuse the Academy will use: no time - is no excuse to leave him out. I want the Academy to apologize to the public for such blatant snubs and to get on its knees for that apology, because they insult each and every one of us who doesn't let them know how badly they suck.

Maybe it had something to do with the writers strike. Whoopie does deserve better. She is always interesting to watch. The view is very lucky to have her. I think maybe she got teary because she may not have been expecting this to come up and she was honest enough to let them know she was touched by their acknowledgement. This is not the first time that Whoopi has been overlooked. Halle Berry did not acknowledge her in her Oscar acceptance speech (while thanking every other black actress who "paved the way" for her). Also, when Oprah had her Legends ball, she didn't honor Whoopi among the Legends, and neither did she invite Whoopi to the Legends ball.
It is so unfair! Whoopi Goldberg is so talented. She must feel terrible about this. But she is a real class act. She is handling all of this with so much grace.
Someone please get bawbra and elisabeth hasselass off the show. off of this earth, the world would be a better place without them.

A lot of what you say, I agree with, but you're leaving out an important thing: white people wouldn't have gotten into Africa if the Black tribal chiefs hadn't allowed them there. Many of the Black tribal chiefs sold their own people for rum, guns, and gold. No white person could have gotten into the bush without being allowed passage. The real message here is greed, not skin colour, because every race has done this to each other since the beginning of written history.
I'm part Native-American, and although I hate what colonial whites did to my ancestors, I also see the truth. We did the same thing to each other that African chiefs did to their people. We made treaties with whites in order to fight with our own people. We let petty rivalries and greed bring in a larger enemy. If we'd stood against the common enemy, perhaps we'd have kept it all out.

The thing is, time marches forward. We have to move with the times, while remembering the lessons of the past to keep us real. I for one, love Oprah, and hope Obama is president. I have not seen so many people excited about a politician in my lifetime. He is the real deal. There is something really sincere and wonderful about him; I think he could do a lot for this country. BTW, me saying that is not like those racist fucks who say, "I'm not racist because I have a Black friend." I really believe this.
I'd also say that white people don't have the market cornered on stealing and thieving. Look at crime and poverty figures to see that this, too, is universal. I live in a city where it's mostly minorities doin' the crimes, which shows that desperate people will do desperate things. But it also shows that people have to act free to be treated free. We've all got to be our better, best selves, not our worst, ghetto-G, trying to be a pimp selves.

I'm all about how sexy mami is, but she ain't a good singer. I think people didn't want her marrying Ben Affleck because they seemed like two totally different people; it had little to do with skin colour. She was all into paparazzi and tabloid hype, while he was just a low-key kind of dude. It seems like they're both with their right matches–not because of race, but just their attitudes about life. He's with a low-key lady who doesn't need expensive things and she's with a guy that loves the finer things in life like she does.

The Oscars were strewn with mistakes… from leaving out Whoopi, Steve Martin, Renfro and others, to cutting the mike in the middle of speeches. I blame a lot of it on the writers and their damned strike (which they wound up with less than they had before cuz it took their greedy little asses too long to agree). When the strike was finally settled they had to literally throw a show together. So dont blame the blacks, dont blame the whites (and obama couldnt have done anything to change the oscars, either). Put the blame where it should be- on the writers strike! There.
