Such A Lame Excuse

renfrobrad__opt.jpg

A spokesperson for the Academy Awards is speaking out about why Brad Renfro was omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute.

“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” says a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “There was no specific reason.”

Is that a good enough excuse?????

    102

I think it's a GREAT excuse… they shouldn't list ANY dead JUNKIE HEROIN FREAKS and DRUGGIES. I'm glad the JUNKIE is dead, Heath Ledger too… JUNKIE!@!!

    103

    who fucking cares

  4. ck says – reply to this

    104

Of course it's a legitimate excuse. Robert Goulet didn't get in there either, and he's more worthy than Renfro.

    105

whooo cares…he was a washed up child star who became a drug addict and died because of it…was he even in any movies?

    106

Ooops, I meant they snubbed Whoopie Goldberg in a different category!

  7. Brad was an actor too says – reply to this

    107

No. That was not a good excuse. He will be largely forgotten and it would have been nice for him to have one more "moment." Shame on you AMPAS!

I don't know why people say he wasn't a star, he was in alot of well known movies…Hello…"Sleepers" with Robert de Niro and Brad Pitt. IMDB it. And for those who keep saying "who cares?" Fell free to leave the site whenever you get bored with its content.

that is the lamest excuse ever… they know they screwd up. or else they wouldnt already be making a statemnet, a lame one, but a statement none the less. i mean did they really think people would not notice that he was not in the tribute. idiots…. i mean hellooo, they put in people that like what 10 people of heard of.i.e agents.. lame!!! maybe they should have thought through their excuse before they put it out there!
well at least he is getting a memorial now. with all of us saying how awful it was that he was left out!
i mean they snubbed other people as well including Whoppi Goldberg and Steve Martin. in their montage of people who hosted and whatnot.
im glad they got crap ass ratings. couldnt happen to nicer people!

    115

They can't "fit" everyone in? What a pathetic excuse.
They show each person for 3 seconds or less. Are they really telling us that they couldn't put in a 3 second clip of Brad Renfro? Wow, thank you for honoring dead actors, Oscars. Great job, really. Very respectful.

  16. Mona says – reply to this

    116

Sounds like the Oscars made quite a few unpopular choices this year. Their ratings were at their lowest in 20 years! With stunts like not honoring a gifted young actor like Brad Renfro, sounds like what happened to the Oscars this year was KARMA!!!

  17. cc says – reply to this

yes - I'm sure there were lots of other people associated with Hollywood biz who were also omitted. Wht should actors be treated any differently?

  20. lucy says – reply to this

    120

Lame excuse is right!! We always get to hear about some dusty old fart dying that nobody has even heard from in 60 years, but when someone from our generation dies unexpectedly from a mix of illegal drugs they get yanked from the line up. If the Oscar family has something wrong with drugs then why did they give a rap group (3-6 mafia) an award when they make songs about sexual acts while under the influence of illegal narcotics!! The Oscar family is a bunch of hypocritcal rich f@#kers!!

Uhm, for those that called him a "junkie OD loser", didn't heath ledger od on drugs that are just as bad as heroin…common, how many downers does one aussie need? Percocet, Hydrocodone…pill forms of heroin??????

  24. andrea says – reply to this

    124

It is no excuse and is down right shamefull! Brad Renfro had an excellent acting ability and I believe would have gone on to do more great things if drugs were not an issue. Fact is he has been around as an actor longer the Heath Ledger and in my opinion had better acting roles as well, he should have been mentioned and I feel sorry for his family, friends and fans who would have EXPECTED a nod to this wonderfull actor as well as person I am sure!

    HERES SOMETHING CREEPY.
Auditioned for the part of Gabriel Martin in The Patriot (2000), which eventually went to Heath Ledger, who died from an overdose of prescription drugs on January 22, 2008, exactly one week after Brad's death.

    WOW.

  29. N says – reply to this

    129

There have been many people who have passed over the years that the committe don't add to the In Memoriam montage during the show. This is a show that CANNOT end on time at all. EVER. Brad, although he had acted in a few amazing movies, in the long run, as many have said on this very cmmt board, he was more known in the last few years of his life for his troubles then for his work. Whether then using the stock excuse I think the Academy should have just fessed up and stated the real reason we didn't put him in wasn't just for timing but for lack of a useful career. He was someone who had it all in front of him and made choices that threw away his future. Suck it up people. He threw his life away and now his kid will not grow up w/ his father. Why would they honor him?? Just because of "The Client"? It's not enough.
That's just my opinion, and opinions are like assholes. Everyone has them. Whether you like it or you don't. I am free to express it

    SO SUCK OFF !

  32. Ani says – reply to this

    132

The couldn't "fit him in" but they had old ass agents and executives and people that nobody even heard of?? That is a horrible excuse, a 2 second clip for him wouldn't have been a big deal….

  33. Maria says – reply to this

    133

Perez, I never comment on here, but just had to say, thanks for caring about Brad! Its nice to see you acknowledging him in a positive light!

  34. Stephanie says – reply to this

    134

Um was he ever really in anything recognized by the Academy? If not, it makes sense.

  35. Cameron says – reply to this

    135

Ugh, idiots! He should have been in there. Just as Whoopi should be in there. Fire the montage team, fire 'em all!!!

  36. michelle says – reply to this

    136

When Anna Nicole Smith passed away, she was not in any tributes. If you work in the movie industry you get a tribute. There is no excuse for Brad Renfro to not have a tribute at the Academy Awards. People who have influence such as musical scores or even production assistants for movies decades ago are recognized, and so should anyone in the industry.

  37. A says – reply to this

    137

Total Crap! If they weren't going to include everyone they shouldn't have done it, what a complete slap in the face to eveyone that knew or cared about him.

  38. jennyp says – reply to this

    138

I was keeping an eye out for him last night and when he didn't show up, I figured maybe he wasn't in an 'Oscar' film, meanwhile so many 'old' people who nobody would even know anymore appeared. It's just wrong!

  39. gigigig says – reply to this

    139

Excuse me? you never cared much before, Perez.

  40. kate says – reply to this

    140

Yes it's a good excuse… has he done anything worthwhile? If Paris Hilton up and died tomorrow would there be a tribute at next year's Academy Awards? I think not. Who cares. Heath Ledger was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Brokeback. Had he of lived he would be announced and referred to as 'Academy Award Nominee Heath Ledger'. This Renfro kid will simply be known as the kid from the Client.

  41. Dan says – reply to this

    141

    who fucking cares?

  42. Aaron says – reply to this

    142

Lame excuse. It didn't take them a minute, or even thirty seconds to acknowledge just one person. Brad Renfro deserved a five second spot just like everyone else.

  43. Lisa says – reply to this

    143

Yes well that ass excuse doesn't make up for all the disrespect to his friends and family! Stupid bastards

  44. Julia says – reply to this

  45. me says – reply to this

    145

You guys are a bunch of dumb shits who say because he was a washed up druggy so who cares…97% of Hollywood are crack out whores (both male and female)!
They should have included him that's the bottom line.

  46. FUK ME RUNNIN says – reply to this

But they had time for a tribute to parascopes and binoculars??

  48. chrissy says – reply to this

  55. Brianna says – reply to this

    155

    Shame on them.

In addition to being a talent worthy of mentioning, it wouldn't be a bad thing to show him and perhaps have some conversation started amongst families regarding the dangers of drugs and addiction.

  56. Mo says – reply to this

    156

As hard as this is to believe…I think some low-level made a stupid mistake and FORGOT and then they didn't want to look completely unprofessional tried to cover it up with the lame excuse. That sounds about right.

  57. Tiffany says – reply to this

    157

Hmmm… that is a bad excuse. There is really no excuse for it! The program is live and therefore it almost ALWAYS lasts 15 to 30 minutes longer than planned. What would another 15 seconds matter? It's a shame.

  58. Lauren says – reply to this

    158

it would of took 2 seconds for his pic to flash by, F the oscars, stuck up people

Look at ALL YOU ASSHOLES calling him a junkie… how the fuck to you think your precious heath died. YOU FUCKS. Brad was first of all an actor and a fantastic one at that. They should have shown something, for he was amazing at his craft. However we all know the oscars is just one big POPULARITY contest where assholes congratulate themselves on how great they are

  62. rb says – reply to this

    162

If they have time to mention make up artists, dancers and studio executives, then one shot or two of a talented young man such as Brad Renfo was certainly in order. That was very tacky!!!

  63. Kavy says – reply to this

    163

couldn't fit him in!! such bollocs!! at least the BAFTA's put him, means more to the british i guess!!! he was young and talented and he deserved to be there!

  65. Nicolena says – reply to this

    165

If they can mention actor's agents and Oscar executives in the Oscar Memorial, they can at least mention Brad Renfro who was in the movie industry for two decades. Simon Cowell was right… bunch a snob bastards.

  66. Xtina says – reply to this

    166

That's absolute BULLSHIT.. they need to fess up to the fact that they FORGOT to put him into the "In Memoriam" tribute and not beat around the bush with inexcusable comments!

  67. Teri says – reply to this

    167

They overlooked mentioning Jonthan Brandis a few years ago, but their excuse that year was that he wasn't a big enough movie actor to be mentioned. I'm guessing that's what happened to Brad, but they just didn't want to admit to it, and gave that lame editing excuse instead.

  68. margaret says – reply to this

  73. so what says – reply to this

    173

who cares?… he wasn't a good actor who wont be remembered for his "body of work"… just another hollywood casualty - but he didn't do anything film wise worth recognizing.

  74. WhoIsRThisKid? says – reply to this

    174

They didn't include him because he's a NOBODY.

  75. pnutmnm says – reply to this

    175

That pisses me off! One person is not more important than the next!!!

  76. devilgirl says – reply to this

    176

Seems to me theAcademy just didn't think he merited a mention. Really, I'm a movie fan, but other than The Client, I can't think of one movie he did. And he wasn't exactly a public figure in the past few years, other than for getting arrested or high. You can't compare him and Heath Ledger, not at all. However, I think it was BS if they're including H'wood agents from 40 years ago– they're not relevant today, either. So make it fair.
And the omission of Whoopi was horrible. What kind of message is the Academy sending?
I thought this Oscar telecast was the most boring, least interesting I have seen in years. If a star wasn't nominated or presenting, they weren't there. No Reese and Jake, no Tom and Katie or Brad and Angelina either (although the last four I could give a rats ass about), no Goldie and Kurt, no Kate Hudson, no Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, no Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes, no Kevin Spacey, no Maggie G and Peter Sarsgaard, no Jada and Will…NOBODY! WTF? It was boring as hell!
And Roy Scheider's omission was b'c of when he died– two weeks after the deadline.

  77. Jason says – reply to this

    177

    Who is Brad Renfro?

  78. Rena says – reply to this

    178

I don't think anyone who OD's on drugs deserves any kind of recognition. We all know the consequences and have to live (or die) with them.

  79. dee says – reply to this

    179

that's a horrible excuse. he should have been listed

  80. Judith says – reply to this

    180

What is one thing that is in common between Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger? Both died from a drug overdose.

Both ex-celebretards shouldnt be praised for their career and premature deaths. It sends the wrong image to our youth and the world.

  81. sam says – reply to this

    181

Nobody is a victim of this business. On the contrary, they received huge benefits from it. To pretend otherwise is just a lie. If actors are going to piss their lives away, and Ledger was no better than Renfro in that regard, they only have themselves to blame. Both of them had the money and support to seek treatment but preferred to get high.

  82. Anna says – reply to this

    182

It doesn't matter if he was a has been or not, he was still a person and he had every right to be put into the memoriam. By right he died before Heath so if anyone should be pushed aside then it should've been Heath not Brad, but I also think they could fit another person into the thing. They could have taken out some of the talking, did we really need to see that??? Oh and some of the movies he was in was "The Client" and "Sleepers"…which had some A list stars in it. Just because he killed himself doesn't make him a bad person, lots of people try killing themselfs….some die and some don't. I can think of tons of stars who have tried to kill themself's, but we still give them a shot….ONE TALKED LAST NIGHT….maybe if they would've taken his speach away, then they could've fit Brad into the memoriam also. Really it's just not fair to him or his family, maybe that's one of the reasons he did kill himself….people like that in Hollywood seem to only care about themselfs and also about who makes them the most money, such a shame….just think he dies and everyone talks about him all the time , then Heath dies and then it was like Brad who?!?! It's really bad to be upstaged in death, don't ya think…….

  83. FUCK this nobody says – reply to this

    183

He's so not famous that you don't even have a decent picture of this him. You have some passport photo…what the hell?? Hahaha.
And you idiots that expect him to be mentioned at the Oscars…pity mentions are worse than none at all.

  84. Me says – reply to this

  92. Nissa says – reply to this

    192

That's ridiculous! It's a 2 second clip, editing reasons my ass! He was a good actor, awesome in The Client. They could have put him in, that's terrible. I think it's a shame that so many people are saying such negative things about him being a druggie - it's a disease. Those who are critical of him because of this have no idea what it's like to be an addict.
I think that it's definately a lame excuse.

  93. divawitch says – reply to this

piss poor excuse shame on them!

  94. LIARS says – reply to this

    194

While I agree with those who said it is their show and they can run it how they want to, don't lie to the public about why you didn't include Renfro. "We can't fit everyone in…" Please, that extra 3 secs to show his picture and year of birth/death would have totally busted the bank on time. Give me a break.

Run the crappy show however you want to, but don't treat people like idiots with some half-thought through excuse for something.

  95. janebird says – reply to this

    195

I think that's wrong. It's hollywood favoritism for who is the bigger star. It's okay for them to show old dead folk the popular hollywood players but Brad Renfro isn't good enough? He was a working actor and big child star. They should have made room for him too. That's just disrespectful and wrong.

  99. Cari says – reply to this

    199

I love how they had time for an homage to periscopes and binoculars, but couldn't add an extra 3 seconds for a recognized actor. As pointed out earlier, he had to have been known well enough for them to issue a statement as to why he was left out of the montage.

  100. AtlanticVamp says – reply to this

    200

They put everyone from makeup artists and costume designers to art directors and agents on that montage. I call bullshit.
