Such A Lame Excuse

renfrobrad__opt.jpg

A spokesperson for the Academy Awards is speaking out about why Brad Renfro was omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute.

“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” says a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “There was no specific reason.”

Is that a good enough excuse?????

No. Everyone who has passed should be recognized. It's a sign of respect. They could have spent less time on other things like some of those clips that weren't even funny.

    302

That is the most fuckin disgusting excuse I have ever heard. Editing???!!! Renfro was a great talent who deserved to be recognised for his (great) body of work.

They could have done much better. Even saying the way in which he died was inappropriate would've been better than that load of bullshit. Ugh, I hate PR.

    308

No, this statement was not good enought. They should have had the cojones to say he was omitted because he was a drug-addicted loser. Supposedly, this is the land of free speech, but everyone has lost the balls to speak freely because of some idiotic, liberal bull*** called "political correctness."

Other then merely dying from recretional drug use….who the hell was this kid.? And what mark did he leave on the industry? On his life? Young punk kid who died of an OD. Sad for his family. This next generation just doesn't get it! At least Heath was established. For Heath and his family the untimely death has been unfortunate; the OD was not intential and simply put…t brought on by a Perscription med mixture. Sounds like a lack of information was provided to Heath. Thus causing great pain for his daughter and family.

  21. Emily says – reply to this

    321

that is a horrible excuse. Adding one more person would not do anything, they definetley could have added him and i think it's ridiculous that they didn't. What makes anyone else who died more important than him?

There was plenty of room and time for all the dead fat-cat executives and agents that most people never heard of. The Oscars are a ridiculous self-congratulatory narcissistic over hyped indulgence of bad taste and excess. What kind of group would give out awards to show the world how great they are and why would anyone care? And who are they to say one performance or movie was better than another? It's a load of shit. Why would anybody be surprised they left a dead druggie off the list? Oops, they didn't, Heath Ledger was included.

Alright Billy, that's bullshit! I'm SO pissed that the Academy left Brad Renfro out of the Memoriam, My jaw dropped and I had to rewind the TiVo because I was in such disbelief — but come'on, The Academy Awards is the biggest NON-conservative Liberal'fest on the planet!

  27. wtf says – reply to this

    327

Wow, that's even worse than it merely being an oversight. So disresectful. After the montage was done, everyone at the party I was at was like "what about Brad Renfro?" We all thought it was really strange. And they didn't have time? Please! As if another 5 seconds would make a difference in that show…

  28. ange says – reply to this

    328

They had time to mention agents (that weren't know to the public) and yet not an actor? Very strange….. An apology should be made to his family for such a dreadfully disrespectful oversight.

  29. Barbra says – reply to this

    329

BRAD WAS NOT A MEMBER OF THE ACADEMY NOR WAS HE EVER A WINNER OR NOMINEE OF AN ACADEMY AWARD. THOSE MENTIONED IN THE LIST WERE JUST THAT.

GET OVER IT PEOPLE. He was an actor… there are MANY actors that have died. And when exactly are you going to start naming them off here? Those with much more talent and such.

Can't fit everyone in? Are they serious? Oh, how inconvenient that there would be more dead movie people this year than last!! By the way, I thought the In Memoriam part was a helluvalot shorter than previous years. I was expecting to see Renfro there. Stupid Academy.

  34. Jennifer says – reply to this

    334

IDIOTS! He was in "Bully" and "Apt Pupil"! and several small parts in movies. Point is he is an actor and died and they should have recognized him. What a spit in his families face. RENT BULLY IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT, ITS THE SHIT!!

  35. a says – reply to this

    335

That's Bullshit! He was the one person I was looking for on that. Half the world doesn't even know who most of the other people were. I say we boycott the oscars from now on just because "we just can't fit them in". Fuckers!

  36. Ben says – reply to this

    336

In years past, they have honored more people and the tributes have lasted longer as well. What a shitty excuse!!!!!!

  37. Donna says – reply to this

    337

That is a lame excuse. They should have said, "We didn't include him because he killed himself and we don't think he should be recognized for that."

And Roy Scheider was not included because his death was so recent. I believe the tribute ran up to January 31, 2008.

  38. natalie says – reply to this

    338

yeah, that is SUPER f'ing lame! the did it for chris farley and he died of an OD, same with other young actors from the same thing. how lame, rude and disrespectful. I guess to commemorate the death of the dude who did the make up effects for 'Hook' was just too much more important.

  39. natalie says – reply to this

    339

to the person who said that it was because Renfro died in 2008 and not 2007.. it has nothing to do with it. Ledger died in 2008 too! and they included him and he OD'd on accident as well! it's a respect issue.. it has nothing to do with 'fitting' them all in. they had people in there that NO ONE would recognize.

No fuckin way, Brad deserved to be in the list. He was an established actor, whether he's done work recently or not. And it doesn't matter if someone was a member of the academy, if they were an established actor then they deserve to be honored. And Brad died within the years they listed on the memoriam, so he should've been included.

  53. Jackie says – reply to this

    353

Perhaps because he hasn't done any significant work for ages and what he did do in his lifetime made no significant or impactful contribution to the industry. Being a preteen heart throb and spending the last ten years of your life doing nothing but crack does not entitle you to any special recognition from the Academy. Just because you had a crush on him when you were nine does not mean there's any reason to get all up-in-arms about the Academy's failure to recognise a nobody when there were far more professional and influential people to honour.

    Re: Rufus
Well aren't you a total asshole. Lots of people know who Brad Renfro is, too bad you're a fucking stupid moron and maybe you should pay more attention. And also maybe try not totally SUCKING at life next time. And even if you don't know who he is, show some fucking respect for the dead.

Just because he died of a heroin overdose, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a mention in the Oscars memoriam. Heath died of a sleeping pill overdose. An overdose is an overdose, nuff said.

    366

It doesn't fucking matter. He was a junkie and died the death he deserved. Why should the academy honor him when he didn't really contribute much more than a few decent roles to the canon of Hollywood history.

I repeat: A fucking junkie and does not deserved to be honored!

  67. Emma says – reply to this

    367

Re: sam – hey ASSHOLE ,the memoriam is not about their personal life it is about their contribution to Hollywood Cinema in general ,so as far as I'm concerned Brad Renfro should have been included despite of how he died. A good friend of mine used t tell me how like a bunch of ASSHOLES run the Academy and I refused to believe him but now I realized what he meant, now I am convinced that they are a bunch of ASSHOLE DOUCHE BAGS . next year I probably won't be watching anymore besides it is just boring and lame

Its bullshit to say that it was an editing decision I guess the only way to get mentioned is if you win an oscar right? I thought it was really tasteless for the academy to do that.

  75. Shaun O'Rourke says – reply to this

    375

Frank Capra Jr. who was not only the son of Frank Capra ( Diretor of "It's a Wonderful Life") who in his own right is a producer, director, and member of the Academy Of Motion Pictures aka the "Oscars" passed away in December of 2007 of cancer. Frank was also left out, and contributed more to the film industry in his lifetime that Brad ever did. Sometimes they just don't have the time to fit everyone in.

  76. Pooooooo says – reply to this

Re: Jasper – You're the fucking idiot. The academy quite often honors people who aren't members. And besides, why the fuck would they come up with the lame excuse they did if they could've just said it was because he wasn't a member? And just because someone has drug problems in their own life doesn't mean people should write off their death. You're a total fucktard.

Brad like all the others deserved to be honored and respected, he contributed to the art of film, he was in fact very good at it, and that is what the memorandum is about….Not to comment on what an individual did or didn't do in there private time or in Brad's case what demons he was wrestling.
