Such A Lame Excuse

renfrobrad__opt.jpg

A spokesperson for the Academy Awards is speaking out about why Brad Renfro was omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute.

“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” says a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “There was no specific reason.”

Is that a good enough excuse?????

If they can't include everybody they shouldn't include anybody. I think it's a demeaning segment anyway, what with the way the audience claps for some and not for others. Clearly Renfro's OD was too "controversial" for the Academy…however Heath Ledger's ok because he used prescription pills.

    402

Wow.. that is worse than if they just said it was an oversight. They didn't have 2 more seconds to show his face? Please. It's shameful, and just fucking wrong! Disgusting…

    403

Oh get over it, he only made One movie when he was young. I didn't even know who this was when he died. The movie was good. Now if he won an oscar that's different. It sucks that he died early.

    404

that is such a lame excuse, they said the same about cutting out Johnatan Brandis years ago, after commiting suicide…

if heath ledger can OD and still be deemed worthy enough for the Oscars, then brad renfro should have been given the same respect

Horrible EXCUSE! BS. I sent a post to the academy's comment page because I was so pissed.

Brad's friends and family (myself included) would have liked to see him up there, and it is with complete and utter disgrace that he was not mentioned. Brad was interested in taking roles that weren't of a blockbuster nature, as he skipped past American Pie and many others over the years. He did what he chose to do, because he wasn't going to let Hollywood own him. For those of you who are uneducated about his career and do not care to research the extent of his work, but yet sit here online and speak ill of him just because it's the "hot topic", well, I'm sorry for you. This means nothing to you in the long run, but his loved ones endure every jab you take and they do it with a heavy heart. I will love and defend him forever. I don't need to see his face on the Oscar tribute to know that he counted in this life.

  11. JESS says – reply to this

    411

they ignored roy sheider too and roy was a WAY WAY WAY more accomplished actor than Brad Renfro.

  12. J says – reply to this

    412

Well, they didn't exactly mention Heath Ledger or any other notable celebrity death either. Why should this be a special case… he was a child star gone wrong. No need to mention it at a reputable ceremony… that's what THS is for.

  13. abby loves p-nasty says – reply to this

    413

LAME ASS EXCUSE….. it was a snub.

  14. Day says – reply to this

    414

R U for real? I think that it is horrible that he was left out and that is a totally lame excuse! Drug OD's are all the same, a very big fucking mistake, no one can place judgement on who had it worse. They should have at least included him for his contribution however large or small they may be. I'm sure that there were some other individuals who were a lot less revelent that could have been excluded for " time restrictions"!

  15. Amanda says – reply to this

    415

What about the lady that directed this years cute movie "Waitress?" She was murdered before the movie came out and I think she should have been mentioned at least.

  16. chica says – reply to this

    416

A lot of ppl noticed this; I didn't. But they ffw'd so fast you could not get the gist of who died or not, geesh lemme see Heath Ledger for several seconds!

  17. Andrea says – reply to this

    417

I love Brad! They really shouldn't have cut him out of it…. if they had room for all the randoms they showed, they could have saved a second for him! RIP Brad Renfro

  18. Angel says – reply to this

    418

that excuse is bullshit, too many actors in hollywood deal with, die from and more important FUNCTION in addiction. To omit Brad Renfro (because of TIME) is just bogus and proves that hollywood is run by a bunch of hypocrites.

  19. Who cares says – reply to this

    419

    that's why no one watched

  20. Prock says – reply to this

    420

How bout Anna Nicole Smith last year….when people complained that she was omitted, the Academy said that her death occured after the montage was completed and she would be included in the next year's montage (2008)….she was definitely NOT included….let's be honest, if some hollywood big shot (e.g. Tom Cruise, Steven Speilberg) died two days before the oscars, they would absolutely be included!!!!

  23. DENNIS says – reply to this

    423

    YES
HE WAS A NOBODY AND A LOSER

  24. Annab says – reply to this

    424

I thought it was a little disrespectful for omitting Brad Renfro, his career started off very strong starring in The Client with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. Even though he did not do as much notable work in his later years he still deserved to be a part of the show.

  25. lis says – reply to this

    425

love brad renfro, love heath ledger. i think they snubbed renfro.

some of my favorite movies starred chris farley…and the academy didn't forget that (wonderful) actor with substance problems.

  26. chica says – reply to this

    426

I also noticed for a flash sec-because it was that quick-that one of the kids of Jurassic Park died-I think it was the boy and not the girl. Does anybody know how he died, at what age??? This was totally overlooked by all media.

  27. tomcat says – reply to this

    427

A lot of the people on the 'lists' get there from favors or ass kissing. Thats how agents were put in. Same with the long fucking speeches with lists of names instead of good comments,

Well, with the ratings way down, expect the 'Academy' make some changes.

  28. Joseline Sánchez says – reply to this

    428

the only reason i watched the oscars was because i was waiting the moment that brad renfro would appear in the tribute, but nothing happened and that what just dissapointing, it just made last night's oscars more boring!!, the most boring oscars ceremony i've ever seen, and i say this cause i was abrad fan for so many years, and no matter how he died, he contributed and and he was a great actor, better than many that are alive out there now

  29. Kimmizzle says – reply to this

    429

    That seriously bothered me.

  30. dale says – reply to this

    430

brad renfro's a better actor than heath ledger. yeah, it's sad heath died, but he wasn't that great of an actor. if he wasn't in that gay horse movie he would've been treated how brad is.

  31. fse2008 says – reply to this

    431

Brad Renfro should have been on the tribute. There was a mistake made and I can only hope somewhere someone is going to be blamed because of it. I think regardless of personal life issues (drug abuse, etc) if a person makes a memrable film such as the cure, then the academy had a duty to allow people to remember him during there biggest show

  32. leeza says – reply to this

    432

so what…why does he need a tribute? what has he been in??

  33. j says – reply to this

    433

They had enough time for a dumbass tribute to binoculars and bad dreams. They could've cut that silly shit and honored Renfro. Besides… MANY talented actors dead and alive have drug problems so that shouldn't be a reason for not featuring. NOT ENOUGH TIME… MY ASS. BETCHES! I'm so over the Oscars.

  49. HE DID NOT WIN AN OSCAR says – reply to this

    That's such Bullshit!
They managed to include in the tribute, a STUNT MAN & endless 'executives' like the bogus mayor of hollywood and the former president of the academy, people that have never acted in their lives but not a Real Actor.
Poor Brad. We love you Brad!!!!

He was not well known to the public and since he was a druggie, why should he be honored? He was lucky to have been in a few movies, but would not have gone much further since he did not take care of hisself.

  60. michael j. cox says – reply to this

    460

they used roy scheider's line 'we're gonna need a bigger boat', but had the balls to leave him out of the montage.. so why put it past the academy to snub renfro? he was a fine actor who at least deserved a 2 second clip.

  61. Bethany says – reply to this

    461

I think they could have omitted one of those cinematographers or art directors that we have no idea who they are. Despite all his faults, Brad Renfro was an acclaimed actor who fell on hard times, as do most actors.

  62. Crystal G. says – reply to this

  63. golden child says – reply to this

didn't he play in the movie Bully and he murdered his best friend Bobby Kent…I remember him in the Client, but he sure does look like the boy in Bully who was getting whooped by his friend…

He should of been included. He was a great actor.

Why don't you go rent the Cure, the client, Sleepers, Apt. Pupil, Bully, Ghost World ( this movie was nominated for an oscar by the way), Deuces Wild, the jacket or 10th and wolf just to name a few of the movies with great performances by Brad. He should have been included in the tribute.

What about Luciano Pavarotti, they didnt mentioned him either.

  68. :) says – reply to this

    468

i had only heard of like two or three people they mentioned. They could have cut some of the old folks that nobody's heard of and put him in cause he was a great actor.

  69. elsie says – reply to this

    469

It's very lame, they gave the same excuse when it came to Jonathan Brandis.

  70. James says – reply to this

    470

Maybe it was because Renfro is a total unknown as well as a loser. I never saw him in anything.

  71. Gardenia says – reply to this

    471

    That's bullshit.

  72. person. says – reply to this

    472

    umm, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

he was an excellent actor, and i had the biggest celeb crush on him for such a long time. It's actually a slap in the face for his family and fans, and a really lame excuse. Editing decision, PSHHH, yeah right. I guess it's easier to pretend he didn't exist because of his overdose. But the media is still all over Anna Nicole Smith, and let's get serious, what the fuck did she really do besides fuck rich men and show her tits? He was a talented actor, and it's such a shame what the limelight can do to a person.

    R.I.P BRAD♥

  73. jane says – reply to this

    473

that's a ridiculous and unacceptable excuse. what about all the unknown behind the scenes people that died? they managed to fit them in! I feel sorry for Brad Renfro's friends and family. The Academy didn't even offer any sort of apology. Sickening.

  74. charlie says – reply to this

    474

no its not an excuse because they had a heck of alot of writters and directors and even agents in there but they left out Brad.

  75. Sheryl says – reply to this

    475

Who the fuck cares about Renfro. He was just some washed up coke-addicted has been child star. All the photos of the people shown at the Oscars deserved and earned their place to be there. If people want to memorialize Renfro so bad, put his picture up on the wall of an NA meeting under the caption, "Could be you, so stop being a loser and get off the smack!!"

  76. Heidi says – reply to this

    476

OK- Hell no! This was completely unacceptable. Fuck the academy!

  77. Gio says – reply to this

    477

I thought you had to be a member of the academy to get included? it was a stupid excuse but that doesn't mean it was a huge deal that they left him out

  78. Suzy says – reply to this

    478

This is nothing short of hypocritical.
It’s an embarrassment to the Arts.
Brad Renfro had an incredible talent. It may not have been "Shakespeare-esque" but he could certainly command a scene.
A twelve-year old standout in The Client.
Films are made, written, produced, directed and performed by drug users and abusers.
I'm sure the Oscar committee has a few on its blowhard of a staff… except it comes in a pill bottle and "prescribed" by a "doctor."
And to the person that called him a junkie loser, and how we shouldn’t commemorate his life… hmmm, than you must think Edgar Allen Poe, Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, and Belushi’s work to be fruitless as well.
Welcome America, to the school of Rush Limbaugh.
    HYPOCRITICAL.

  84. Terry says – reply to this

    484

He was certainly good enough to be listed and should have been. In a sense, he lost his life due to the Hollywood influence. It was truly ashamed he was not included. He was a person and his life is a loss.

  85. joy says – reply to this

    485

No offense to his memory but he hadn't really done anything in a long time; if they included every former child star who passed away it would be a pretty long list. Somehow I doubt his family and close friends are upset about this so why should anyone else be?

  86. Me says – reply to this

    486

They said the same thing when Jonathan Brandis died. Fuckin assholes!

  87. Hayley says – reply to this

    487

BULL CRAP! He freaking died…give him some sort of acknowledgment! GAH

  88. Anie says – reply to this

    488

It was pretty fucked up that they left him out. The kid was a really good actor. And the annoucement said "all the stars who worked behind and in front of the camera"
and left us in 2008. They really didn't even give Heath justice.

  89. Edna says – reply to this

    489

I don't even know who this guy is!!!! Perhaps that is the reason why they did not mention him. God rest his soul, but hollywood is what it is!

  90. Jaime McIntyre says – reply to this

    490

I was completely upset because they left out Brad Renfro in memory at the Oscars.
What - because he was never nominated for an Oscar he doesn't count?
    Shame on you Oscars!

  91. Melissa says – reply to this

I was really upset he wasnt on there!!! He was in some pretty good movies. It was like them saying he didnt matter.

  92. rudy says – reply to this

  93. jackiee says – reply to this

    493

Actually deaths were from February of last year too the end of January [this year] and he died February 10 so he didn't make the cut. Anyway it's stupid.

  94. c says – reply to this

    494

    That is total BS!!
And they wonder why no one watched!

  95. Tony says – reply to this

    495

I'M SO GLAD I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THAT. The Academy goofed on too many little things like this poor boy's death and lack of acknowledgment for Whoopi. Gil Cates is losing his touch. Nothing, especially the death of a movie actor, should be overlooked at the awards nor justified with such a stupid reason for the omission.

PEREZHILTON.COM garners a lot of attention and it should be known on this site that the only thing that Gil Cates should offer is AN APOLOGY, just as he supposedly called Ms. Goldberg. Next year - hire more expensive research editors!

  96. Drew says – reply to this

    496

Veteran comedic television and film actor Tom Poston was also omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute. Thats more shocking than Brad Renfro not making the cut.

  97. vm says – reply to this

    497

I think it's a shame, he worked opposite the likes of Robert Deniro, Kevin Bacon, Susan Sarandon and Sir Ian McKellen. He was a GOOD actor. They can honour makeup artists that last worked 40 years ago but not a talented young actor that ENTERTAINED us. Isn't that what the industry is all about? Fuck them, the show sucked anyway. They must have forgotten about him, the excuse is just too lame. RIP Brad.

  98. mark says – reply to this

    498

That is a lame excuse.. Brad never fit the Hollywood mold that they wanted, he was different and talented. RIP Brad.

  99. brilliant says – reply to this

    499

That is really terrible! Brad's death was completely overshadowed by the also tragic death of Heath Ledger. So many reasons why this is just plain sad.

  100. brilliant says – reply to this

    500

It is truly depressing to see other people commenting that Brad was undeserving of a 2 second recognition because of how he died and what his life had become at that point. Regardless, he was someone's son, someone's friend, and his unfortunate and untimely death can surely be at least partially attributed to our society and the way we only cheer for our teams when they're winning and turn our heads when they're down.
