Such A Lame Excuse

renfrobrad__opt.jpg

A spokesperson for the Academy Awards is speaking out about why Brad Renfro was omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute.

“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” says a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “There was no specific reason.”

Is that a good enough excuse?????

Re: k.c. – he was in several movies nominated for oscars in the past- the client, sleepers, apt pupil…just to name a few. he's shared the screen with some of the biggest names in the business, actors that have won academy awards. what you say would be true (about the academy choosing who they want) except that the oscars belong to both the people that makes movies…and he made movies in hollywood from the age of 10. the academy was at fault in this, and just because you happen to not know the actor doesn't mean you're in the right.

I hope none of you's become a famous actor or actress, gosh some of the comments here are down right cruel..Brad Renfro was part of the industry of movies in Hollywood, he deserved at least a second shot in that memorial of all who died being linked to the film industry, regardless how he died. The Academy simply did a sloppy job, thats a lame excuse they came up with. Even Heath Ledger shot was terrible, they had him with his head down in a cowboy hat, and when he lifted up his head..it cut fast..and yet others whom I never even heared of, where given more time…Shame on you Academy!

he should be at least recognized because of his works, he shouldn't be forgotten because of how he died…
are you sure the others who are commemorated didn't use drugs…come on…

Comment from New York Tims site:

It’s all about the dirty dark secret that the movie industry does not want to admit — or be within a mile of acknowledging: that it exploits, uses up and spits out children. In this instance, Hollywood used a 12 year old kid — and then blamed the consequences of that exploitation on the kid himself, and ignored the ugly end. Brad Renfro is not the exception; he’s the rule. It’s child molestation, pure and simple. And it’s been happening forever. Pity that even the New York Times is complicit in this exploitation. Can you imagine the expose it would run if it didn’t have an interest in promoting popular entertainment?

So he starred in a movie or two. He was known most for his drug use. Couldn't handle a big paycheck and a little fame. So sad. No lame excuse. People and other mags covered his death. That was enough.
