Shake, Rattle and Roll
Filed under: AnglophiliaAn earthquake hit the U.K., including London and as far as Wales, on Tuesday evening.
With a magnitude of 5.3, it was pretty darn big.
It is thought to be the UK's largest earthquake in the last 25 years.
Hope everyone's okay!

I was alsleep But everyone else i spoken too felt it!!!! lol! Love you Perez!!!!!!!!
maybe i brought over the quake from l.a………..
didnt feel anything in london though.
I felt it last night, it woke me up. The whole flat shook, it was actually kind of cool…Though pathetically at first I thought there was some kind of super duper demon spirit entity lol.
my bed moved half waya cross my room, only 1 person got hurt, there pelvis was crushed by a chimney… there ok though. and to people in mexico, big deal for us because none of the bui, ldings are safe and we havent had a kuake for 25 yeares!
Were from england! it shook us out of bed! only one person was injured though dont worry!!
i felt the earthquake in my bed! it shook ma room. dont expect these things in london. notting hill all the way!
omg!!
i live in the uk and i didnt even now about it lol!!!:p
PEREZ I LOVE YOU!!!
It wasn't that bad i just woke up and thought someone was shaking my bed durgh!!! haha
My boyfriend tried to pass it off as 'wind' - charming
i was out in a club and didn't noticed it happened lol and no one looked like they cared if they did feel anything
im from manchester in the uk it woke me up pretty scary really somebody said we dont get earthquakes in the uk we get them quite often in manchester there just very small
Re: U R A DICK! –
Cos shit like this doesn't happen very often does it!
On an emotional note… Scared the fucking shit outta me. Never has the earth moved like that for me before. I need a new boyfriend or vibrator!
it got all the way up to manchester…i slept right through it
It woke me up but other than that, it's all good!
A bit of excitment to do with the climate for once!
Love Ya Perez!! x
I'm in Liverpool and I felt it. Think it was more midlands/ north felt it more than down south. I just thought I was imagining it..but yeah guys it did happen. May not be big news to people in the US/Mexico but its a big deal here as they NEVER happen.
The reason it is getting such press coverage is that it is a highly unusual geological event in the UK. No-one posts news on geysers in Yellowstone park firing off, cos it's normal for that area. However, if one spouted in downtown New York, it would make world news for being UNUSUAL. Therefore earthquake on a known geological fault line….expected and no-one makes a fuss. Moderate earthquake somewhere far away from major fault line…..talking point!
No-one is trying to claim that it was dangerous or life-threatening, people from the UK are merely expressing their surprise at such an UNUSUAL event.
Quite enjoyed it actually….though my bf did have the gall to make a '…did i make the earth move for you?' comment… *rolls eyes*
its crazy!
my bed just started shaking i though someone was under it!
My husband and I were awake when it happened , we live about 50 miles from the epicentre . Very strange for us . He immediately said "Maybe it's an earthquake " I said "don't be so daft we don't get earthquakes in yorkshire". We actually thought that it was more likely that we were haunted , til a friend sent a text asking if we'd felt the earthquake first thing this morning!!!Very Bizarre, but everyones fine thanks for the transatlantic concern!!!!
Was there????!!! I live in Wales and didn't feel a thing!!!
I live in London and I slept through it. So far only one man hospitalised after his chimney fell on his as he slept
Damn, I was hoping those tea suckers would all die, ugly accents, worshipping a old fart who uses all your tax money. England is too stupid when it comes to earthquakes, they probably think it's Elton John performing live in their backyard.
It was mega exciting! I woke up thinking it was some crazy lorry swishing past. xxx Sending Perez loves from Blighty!
WE LOVE YOU IN THE UK PEREZ COME BACK SOON.
it was actually pretty fun
my bed was shimmying about felt like i was on a bus
and yes it did hit london my friend in camden felt it and i felt it and im MUCH further south than leeds nearer brighton so perez you're right
may not seem a big deal to those who are used to events like this but this is extremely rare and just a bit of excitement for everyone in the uk so let us have our fun whilst no ones getting hurt!
thankyou perez for caring =D
x
Sorry i farted lol
To all you Americans who are saying "4.7 Thats Nothing" well it is when you've never experienced them before. And earthquakes are hardly common over here. When shit happens over in America you expect the rest of the world to show empathy so why can you never show it back? How Ignorant.
i slept right through it lol.
and Perez is saying it's "pretty darn big" because over here it's rare that we get them like that, dumb twats.
Re: Kevin Rudd –
As opposed to all you "smart" americans. your all so inconsiderate all your dollar bills are the same shape and size.. any consideration for the blind? No?
Face It Darling.. the UK will always be superior to you. Thats why all the bad shit happens to you. And as for worshipping an old fart.. ye she is your right. but nobody worships her.. shes actually pretty useless. And only your country would let hijackers bomb them.. whos stupid now??
Alls well in the UK the Earthquake woke most people up and was a little odd as we arnt really used to them here but it just made the house rattle..first time the earths moved for me in bed without my boyfriend there!! lol Thanks for the concern though! mwah!
it woke me up lol!!!
FOR EVERYONE WHOS SAYING ITS NOT BIG…
ITS BIG FOR SOMEWHERE THAT DOESNT EVEN GET EARTHQUAKES U THICK FAT YANKS
We are all fine thanks - it was a biggie but not on the scale that other countries have, more of a shuffle and a shake
we never felt it in the north of england - it JUST missed us!
hope everyone is okay down south though!
x
I'm in London, I didn't notice a bloody thing!
hey im from uk and only one person was hurt apprently, a 19year old broke his pelvis when a chimney came down….it was really sureal to have an earth quake in quaint ol' england!
KEEP ON BLOGING PEREZ
Byes for now
Annika L P
Ok ok what is the deal with this earthquake i felt nothing last nite! I was clearly fast asleep and the 1st thing i heard about it was this morning at work, so sad that the earth didn't move for me
i was in the earthquake lasted about 20 seconds very scary as it happend at 1am and woke me up!!pluse these things dont happen in the u.k!!!!!
i live in southampton, which is about 2 hours away from london and i went to bed about 3:00am London GMT time wednesday morning n i didnt hear nothing.. infact from this website thats the 1st i heard about it!! and the reason its a big deal is america gets so many earthquakes all the time.. the last 1 we got was in 2002 that was in the whole country.. and we get like 1 earthquake every 5 - 10 years which is more rare than alot of countries which get them every month.. thats y its being made out a big deal! cuz we just dont get them..
i'm in Leeds, i felt it, the whole house shook! it was pretty scary since we don't usually have them, thankfully there are no fatalities reported. alot of peoples houses are damaged though
hey i live in mold north wales and i was awake at 1am this morning and my bed just started shaking!!! i was soooo scared i thought some1 was underneeth my bed!1 and then i looked up and my light was shaking!! soooo scary! lol
Re: DUDEEE – A few of you keep saying us dumb Americans aren't showing any sympathy and keep saying it 'was nothing' but after reading these comments…. the only ones that have really been saying it 'was nothing' are other British folks that are saying they didn't feel it, or that comment earlier that said even the British news said it was a very "British" earthquake, as in, over exaggerated.
So… not sure who you are really yelling at since it's your own countrymen that keep posting it 'was nothing'.
HTH
Re: stuart wood, England, UK – I think the last hundred comments that have thoroughly explained that the reason this is getting attention is because it's unusual for that area…. is sufficient to explain it, unless one more person wants to say THE REASON ITS A BIG DEAL IS BECAUSE WE NEVER GET 'EM HERE!
Ok…. we got it….. we understand….. we are aware now….. thanks….
It was really scary! I thought it was my cats messing about in my wardrobe, but then i thought "Hmmm? No my bed wouldn't be shaking like that" We never get them, so it was an odd thing for us.
I'm in Yorkshire, not far from Lincolnshire (where the epicentre was) and I slept through the whole thing… hom!
guys it was a 4.7 ricters…i felt it and it was really nothing!!hahaha!!
Jeez, you Yanks sure love to black cat don't you! You obviously have it SO bad. All Perez was saying was that it was really bad for the Uk as we don't tend to get them here. I was in bed an dit scared the hell out of me at 1 AM. If your earthquakes are that bad and all you want to do is moan about them then get the hell out!!!!
Amazed you know Wales is a different country to England! Hooray an American who knows the difference between our countries!
how come someone said english ppl have stupid accents we dont all have the same accent you know im from the north n we dont speak n e thin like ppl down south in fact in manchester most areas have completely different accents so wat a stupid thing to say n we dont worship the queen who gives a fuck about the queen
god! i live an hour away from london and i had no idea that happened!
Scariest thing to happen in ages!! Im in Manchester (UK) and live in a student house with 8 girls we thought it was going to fall down!!! I thought someone was shaking my bed but turned the light on to see my room shaking!!! lol xxx
I felt it, woke me up shaking me in my bed, was horrible
why horrible? we had a 7.9 on my city and nobody cares… that was NOTHING!!
I care about it.. Last night's earthquake was absolutely awful because here we don't have them.. It makes it completely unimaginable as to what it is like for the heavier ones around the world.. It is pretty scary if you've never experienced anything like it..which most people here haven't.
Why are people hailing us with abuse? We didn't say it was the worst thing ever, it just wasn't a very pleasant experience and nobody here said they didn't care about the rest of the world..x
yea it was freaky! the whole house started to shake! no casualties reported tho
got it was well scary, it woke me up and my bed was moving from side to side, i looked out of my window and all the wheelie bins in the street were toppling over. eek!!
The earthquake was ace! exciting because it never happens in britain.
hello!!!!! utah/nevada had a 6.0 last week!!!
ummmmm……im in london. felt nothing……..
Yeahhhhh it happened, awoooooga! Was exciting! I thought a poltergeist was shaking my bed! Things like this don't happen 2 england, it was only a little rumble but its just exciting for us!! xx
It wasn't the evening. It was 1 am and it shook my whole bloody house
Apparently so….and i slept through it. Bummer.
xXx
my boyfriend is over there in Wales and he said everyone was just scared shitless and nobody knew what to do..other than go into open space.
YEAH,
I WAS GOING ASLEEP AND MY WHOLE ROOM SHUCK!
WAS WEIRD
NEVER FELT SOMETHING LIKE THAT
IM FROM LIVERPOOL THO, WASNT THAT BAD BUT I STILL FELT IT.
I live near birmingham and i slept right through it.
But one of the people i work with got woken up by it.
&& loads of people have said it woke them up.
Im just a heavy sleeper i guess.
(:
wasnt that bad,
]i just thought the cat was going phsyco under my bed
i felt it at about 1am. didnt seem big to be honest, i just felt a vibration but thought it was my imagination or something! it was in the east and i live in the north west, so i guess thats probably why.
wow, i was reading you at the moment of the earthquack, but didn't freak out at all.
actually i'm afraid of them, that's why i didn't go to stanford, but it's my second now and i'm only 21, and both of them happened where there aren't supposed to be any at all.
It scared the shit out of me! I thought my neighbour was having hardcore sex.
Re: blondie –
True, Blondie, but the quake was felt as far away as London.
(Not by me though, maybe I'm in the wrong part. London is big…)
it woke everyone in my house up but i slept right through it!!!
awww…the comments were nice. The worse that happened was one young guy ended in hospital with a fractured pelvis when the ceiling collapsed on him. i was in bed at the time and it woke me up. it sounds naff but i don't think i've ever been so scared
i didn't feel anything although one of my friends did. i was fast asleep…
Perez Wales isn't really that far away lol
Earthquakes with a 5 rating on the Richter scale happen all the time in Southern California. It's nothing.
Well it was a scare but not major because it didn't last long and alot of people slept through it! We all appreciate the concern and good wishes.
i slept through it haha xo
Do you suppose Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty even noticed?
I didn't even feel it! I guess I was passed out drunk, but still…
i survived the earthquake!!! it was very exciting, my bed bounced across my room!!!!
Hii!! Yupp I think everyone is okay. I felt it in London! Nothing to big tho, Nothing fell down, Or not that i know of!!
xx
This was pretty scary for the UK. We dont really get earthquakes very often so even though its tiny to other people, it was a big un for over here. I thought it was an explosion. I did think 'Is it an earthquake? nah it can't be an earthquake…argh! somethings exploded!'. Anyway, I think everyone is ok, not too much damage and no serious injuries.
Perez i love ya but wales aint no where near London my love!!!! although i live in the north of england (Liverpool) and i felt it a little bit (just to get your barings Liverpool is about 200 miles ish away from London) mwah mwah!x
We didn't feel anything down in the South East :[. I missed out?
i felt it, proper shook my bed
crapped my pants!
perez it was 4.7 not 5.3 !!
get your facts straight!
The worst of it was Lincolnshire, Humberside and Yorkshire - we got it bad here in Humberside.
I never wanna experience that again, even if it was 'nothing' by other peoples standards - it was awful!
it's quite unbelievable cos i slept through it and we havent even got a fault line!?! the worst thing that happened was someones chimney collapsed and fell on some poor blokes legs which broke but thats it
i live in a really small town in the north east of england and i even felt it. i woke up to find me body shaking! thought i had a ghost heehee.
course everyone is safe, in the last 100 years or so 14 people have ever died in our country from earthquakes. we are one of the safest countries in terms of natural disasters!
i felt the tremors
Dont worry people it happened in market raisen in Lincolnshire about 1/2 mile frome where i live. no one was hurt, it only lasted 10 seconds. what a way to put Lincolnshire on the map through! lol, everyone thought their boilers where going to explode.
Shit, we in California burp that size almost everyday. Whah! Poor britain!!
I live in Essex (refrain from the Essex jokes! lol) and I didnt feel a thing, neither did a lot of people around London…
It wasnt a big quake at all, and as far as I know everything here is fine!
I live in the UK but I was asleep when it happened but it was quite bad
i slept though it
hahaha, everyone is making a big deal out of the earthquake…i didnt even feel the darn thing.
i live in london, it was so weird, my room was moving from side to side for like 10 seconds. yeah… compared to the rest of the world an earthquake of this magnitude isn't such a big deal, but it is a big deal, because they occur SO rarely in england
HAHA
My bed shook and I thought there was a man under it.
Not an earthquake, no no.
How silly of me.
I FELT IT!! Everyone is fine! About one person was injured. I wasn't at the centre of it, I was quite far away but I still felt it!!! I was like OMG WTFFF WTFF WAS THAT. I thought like a car had crashed into my house or something. But then it stopped and I went to sleep!
that's not good.
i have family over there.
i better go call them.
