Shake, Rattle and Roll

An earthquake hit the U.K., including London and as far as Wales, on Tuesday evening.

With a magnitude of 5.3, it was pretty darn big.

It is thought to be the UK's largest earthquake in the last 25 years.

Hope everyone's okay!

I'm in Liverpool and I felt it. Think it was more midlands/ north felt it more than down south. I just thought I was imagining it..but yeah guys it did happen. May not be big news to people in the US/Mexico but its a big deal here as they NEVER happen.

  17. Kirsty says – reply to this

    217

The reason it is getting such press coverage is that it is a highly unusual geological event in the UK. No-one posts news on geysers in Yellowstone park firing off, cos it's normal for that area. However, if one spouted in downtown New York, it would make world news for being UNUSUAL. Therefore earthquake on a known geological fault line….expected and no-one makes a fuss. Moderate earthquake somewhere far away from major fault line…..talking point!
No-one is trying to claim that it was dangerous or life-threatening, people from the UK are merely expressing their surprise at such an UNUSUAL event.

Quite enjoyed it actually….though my bf did have the gall to make a '…did i make the earth move for you?' comment… *rolls eyes*

My husband and I were awake when it happened , we live about 50 miles from the epicentre . Very strange for us . He immediately said "Maybe it's an earthquake " I said "don't be so daft we don't get earthquakes in yorkshire". We actually thought that it was more likely that we were haunted , til a friend sent a text asking if we'd felt the earthquake first thing this morning!!!Very Bizarre, but everyones fine thanks for the transatlantic concern!!!!

Damn, I was hoping those tea suckers would all die, ugly accents, worshipping a old fart who uses all your tax money. England is too stupid when it comes to earthquakes, they probably think it's Elton John performing live in their backyard.

To all you Americans who are saying "4.7 Thats Nothing" well it is when you've never experienced them before. And earthquakes are hardly common over here. When shit happens over in America you expect the rest of the world to show empathy so why can you never show it back? How Ignorant.

  28. booyah says – reply to this

    228

i slept right through it lol.
and Perez is saying it's "pretty darn big" because over here it's rare that we get them like that, dumb twats.

As opposed to all you "smart" americans. your all so inconsiderate all your dollar bills are the same shape and size.. any consideration for the blind? No?
Face It Darling.. the UK will always be superior to you. Thats why all the bad shit happens to you. And as for worshipping an old fart.. ye she is your right. but nobody worships her.. shes actually pretty useless. And only your country would let hijackers bomb them.. whos stupid now??

i live in southampton, which is about 2 hours away from london and i went to bed about 3:00am London GMT time wednesday morning n i didnt hear nothing.. infact from this website thats the 1st i heard about it!! and the reason its a big deal is america gets so many earthquakes all the time.. the last 1 we got was in 2002 that was in the whole country.. and we get like 1 earthquake every 5 - 10 years which is more rare than alot of countries which get them every month.. thats y its being made out a big deal! cuz we just dont get them..

  40. Emma says – reply to this

    242

Re: DUDEEE – A few of you keep saying us dumb Americans aren't showing any sympathy and keep saying it 'was nothing' but after reading these comments…. the only ones that have really been saying it 'was nothing' are other British folks that are saying they didn't feel it, or that comment earlier that said even the British news said it was a very "British" earthquake, as in, over exaggerated.
So… not sure who you are really yelling at since it's your own countrymen that keep posting it 'was nothing'.
    HTH

  43. Geez freaks says – reply to this

    243

Re: stuart wood, England, UK – I think the last hundred comments that have thoroughly explained that the reason this is getting attention is because it's unusual for that area…. is sufficient to explain it, unless one more person wants to say THE REASON ITS A BIG DEAL IS BECAUSE WE NEVER GET 'EM HERE!
    Ok…. we got it….. we understand….. we are aware now….. thanks….

  44. Lolly says – reply to this

    244

It was really scary! I thought it was my cats messing about in my wardrobe, but then i thought "Hmmm? No my bed wouldn't be shaking like that" We never get them, so it was an odd thing for us.

    254

I care about it.. Last night's earthquake was absolutely awful because here we don't have them.. It makes it completely unimaginable as to what it is like for the heavier ones around the world.. It is pretty scary if you've never experienced anything like it..which most people here haven't.
Why are people hailing us with abuse? We didn't say it was the worst thing ever, it just wasn't a very pleasant experience and nobody here said they didn't care about the rest of the world..x

This was pretty scary for the UK. We dont really get earthquakes very often so even though its tiny to other people, it was a big un for over here. I thought it was an explosion. I did think 'Is it an earthquake? nah it can't be an earthquake…argh! somethings exploded!'. Anyway, I think everyone is ok, not too much damage and no serious injuries.
