Sorry but this is being blown out of proportion. Having worked with many doctors and obstetricians, the truth is a glass of white wine is not harmful. If she was queasy and knew some sips of wine would help, it is no more harmful than if she heaved and hurled for 15 minutes.
I am positive she eats like a bird and watches EVERYTHING that goes in her mouth, and highly doubt she drinks often considering the calorie content and the fact her husband is sober.
If a glass of wine was harmful none of us would even be here. Renaissance era anyone?
I don't even like Nicole Kidman, but come on people…. The biggest mouthy bashers here are clearly the most uneducated.

I didn't know I was pregnant (8 weeks) went out th my girlfriends drank like a fish - got totally blitzed - I lost that baby. I was lucky to get pregnant again - didn't touch a drop had healthy baby boy 3 years later - til' this day, I don't drink like that - ever. She's a dumb ass and is obvioulsly starving herself to stay skinny. Vain, ungrateful,bitch.

most ob-gyns today allow their patients to have 2 glasses of wine or similar alcoholic beverages twice a week. slightly new concept in america but the europeans have been doing it for ages. its actually healthy for yourself and for the baby, so don't criticize or judge her.

When I was pregnant I was sick to my stomach 24/7 from 6 wks on. It was terrible. I craved 3 things - steak and champagne and ginger ale. I have never been more than a very rare social drinker - and not usually champagne, but that is all I wanted. My doc told me to enjoy a 2-shot-glass sized drink 3x a week (every other day roughly) if I wanted it. It calmed my sickness and my nerves and I had a very healthy almost 9'lb boy. If your doc knows and approves and monitors you and your blood sugar is okay, it can be fine. She may have had non-alcoholic champagne or sparkling white grape juice that someone mistook for white wine.
one glas doesn't cause fetal alcohol syndrome, the issue is what happens later when the child attends school, gets a job, etc etc. some women drink a lot and their kids do well in school, others have just one or two classes and their kids are always behind. docs say no alcohol because they don't know which pregnancy will result in the child having lifelong difficulties. people are so selfish sometimes it kills me.
Forget about the drinking for a minute, but this chick looks like she's injected her lips with collagen and botoxed the rest of her face. She also travels a lot. I think you can dye your hair with non ammonia products, so I give her a pass on that. Bottom line, she is over 40 and has had high risk pregnancies. She shouldn't be doing any of the shit she is apparently doing.

It is ok to have a glass of wine every GREAT once in awhile, it wont hurt anything and it is sometimes recommended by doctors.
I really hope this isn't true. I have a 3 month old baby, and I was very careful during my pregnancy not to drink, smoke I'd be around smokers, etc. As a parent, you have a responsibility to do what is best for your child, before as well as after they're born. Cravings or not, its easy to avoid things that are potentially harmful. So many things can go wrong for no reason, why wouldnt you do everything in your power to protect that little growing baby inside of you? Anyone who doesnt read up on do's and don'ts for pregnancy or ignores them is irresponsible and selfish.

Doctors all over Europe tell women it is okay to have an occasional glass of wine. In fact a Scottish woman I know was told to have a Guiness a day while she was pregnant (for the iron). Europe had a lower infant death rate than we do, and currently live 5 years longer than we do.

Why do Americans insist on making women who have a bit of alcohol while pregnant out to be criminals? As many people have mentioned, it is generally believed by most doctors that a BIT of alcohol during pregnancy is harmless. While pregnant women in America are vehemently attacked if even the thought of ordering a glass of wine enters into their mind, it is quite common for pregnant European women to order a glass of wine in public without this sort of public shaming and stigmatization. Americans need to get more educated on the subject before jumping on the attack.
My sister drank a glass of wine a day during her pregnancy. "They do it in Europe" and "The doctor said it was ok" were her reasons.
My niece is developmentally disabled and has physical signs of FAS.
The truth is, medical science doesn't know what alcohol does to the fetus, and it may only affect some pregnancies. Doctors don't like to admit to ignorance on a topic, so with the hit and miss element it's easier to say, oh go ahead, it'll be ok. Sometimes it does harm the child. Anything to the contrary is a rationalization or misinformation.
The baby will likely be fine, but the question is, why take the chance? Huh, Nicole?

There is nothing wrong with a pregnant woman having the occasional glass of wine. Any OB GYN will confirm this. When you can get pregnant and give birth, or have a medical degree, then your judgment will be legit Perez.
Listen I know this is hard to believe but, RECENT (AND EVEN LONG-PAST) STUDIES HAVE SHOWN ONE GLASS OF WINE A DAY WILL NOT BE HARMFUL TO A BABY, AND MAY EVEN HELP IT. YES HELP IT.
I know because of past stigma, and fetal alcohol syndrome statistics and all that, many women would not even consider it, and that's fine. BUT European countries, and probably Australia also, have known this for years. Recently, these findings have been reported on MSNBC and other respected news channels also. They even talked about it on Scrubs, for those of you who don't read the news.
While if I had had a history of miscarriages, I probably wouldn't risk it, it's possible that in Australia they do believe that wine would help, and if that's the case you guys really shouldn't be so hard on her. As long as it was just ONE glass, it's really no big deal.
Scientific studies have proven that it is okay to drink a glass of wine a day. There will be no harmful effects to the baby.

One glass of wine is no big deal…much healthier than stress on the baby, and if she needed a glass of wine to calm her nerves at the OSCARS then so be it…And as for the douches criticizing her for botox and dying her hair…you don't know if she's had botox recently and the hair dye thing is a way over-stated myth. The fact is, doctors and hairstylists agree, it's not a big deal, but most people err on the side of caution anyway.

This day and age women can not only leave their houses when they are pregnant, but they are also allowed to dye their hair. Most hair products are now safe to use during pregnancy, and perhaps that is why you dont see a LOT of disgusting gross roots on pregnant women.
I must say that given her past, and myself having a bad history with miscarrying and finally pregnant and going all the way— I am dissapointed if she would chance doing something like that.. For her sake and that little one's I hope it was non-alcoholic.

Wine actually helps control high blood pressure in some pregnant women and blood pressure issues can lead to preterm labor. As long as it isn't more than one glass once in a while it isn't a big deal.

There is no proof that hairdye is bad during pregnancy. I wouldn't reccomend it more than once every 4-6 weeks, however. Botox no way. Alcohol probably not very smart for any pregnant mama , especiallly one w/ past complications.
If you have one drink it really isn't a big deal….I have had two kids and had a half a glass here and there while being pg and it isn't a problem. The big deal is drinking on a daily basis and drinking heavily!!!! My Doctor said it was more than ok to have a glass of wine here or there, just not in excess. Don't judge until you are in their place.

If you are very stressed out, a doctor would RECOMMEND a glass of white or red wine to relax you. Not a whole bottle, but a glass is fine.
Dr.'s almost recommended a glass of wine. Its okay and at recommended amounts is perfect healthy and fine.

IMO it's probably better to have a glass late in the preganancy (when the baby is more or less maturing and just putting on weight) vs early in the pregnancy (when everything is developing)…but why even bother. There are varying degrees of FAS, and a drink, especially if it's early in the pregnancy, probably wouldn't be the best idea ever.
Ok, this is probably just a rumor, since Perez seems to hate on her all the time. The New York Times is not a very good source-it's not exactly known for its responsible journalism. That being said, if it is true, some women, especially in other cultures, see no problem with having a small amount of wine from time to time. While not encouraged, many doctors will agree with the fact that this is most likely fine for your baby's health. Bottom line, it's her business, especially since she was not stumbling around drunk. I think someone's just jealous of her because she seems to be content.
I delivered my second healthy, beautiful baby girl seven weeks ago and enjoyed the occasional (once weekly) glass of wine during both pregnancies. My doctor recommended it, especially in late pregnancy, to help me relax and not think too much about the impending pain/stress of labor. We Americans are idiots about this- almost everything in moderation is fine, even during pregnancy. It's just that most people are unable to understand the word 'moderation'.

if you've researched the recommendations offered to pregnant women by doctors, generally it is ok to have a glass of wine or a beer occasionally. it has not been proven to harm a fetus.
