    102

Looks like a little Michael Jackson mixed with Saturday Night Fever.

    103

I guess I should add it is not the dance so much that is annoying, as the clothes, hair and SETTING of the video. I'm sure this can look great when done by someone else . . . not this "group" in particular. And, is it just me, or does that mullethead look like that one guy from New Kids on the Block — the one with the long face?

  4. Ann says – reply to this

    104

Well, actually, I only think that people actually PRACTICE the dance in France.

  5. FINALLY says – reply to this

    105

I knew if I continued to dance like a spaz long enough it would become stylish.

  6. ckautt says – reply to this

    106

actually this dancing has been around for years in the rave scene. More worriesome is the fauxhawk-mullet hair style that is sweeping Europe and the bad 80's fashion

  7. Soph says – reply to this

    107

that's tektonik.. so fugly. and it's been "IN" for about 6 months now, you're late lol

  8. not.eurotrash says – reply to this

    108

I was in Paris 5 months ago and it was popular back then, and had been for a while. OLD NEWS! I just hope it doesn't make it stateside (shudder)

  9. klik says – reply to this

    109

Well, I have to say that it's not THAT hilarious! Back in my clubbing days (and those are over, thank god) a whole group of us danced like that (late 80s/early 90s). We did get stares but mostly we were told that we were great dancers! Thinking back, it WAS a very effective way to lose some calories! Maybe I'll try some tectonik in my living room today - if my back doesn't give out!

  10. Belgian girl says – reply to this

    110

    It's true!
This "dance" started in France and is now starting to get very popular in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. And this will not be the last of European trash you will get. A famous "rockband" called TOKIO HOTEL is getting very big with you guys, the're great and the singer is very hot!

  11. TECKTONIK says – reply to this

    111

Get the net, this has been out forevs! i am a teacher in France and i've actually had to make a "no tecktonik" rule in my classroom. i dunno though, you gotta love a dance where the only footwork involves pivoting on your heels.

what's worse than the dance is the style…

  12. JDMoore says – reply to this

    112

From Wikipedia — Tecktonik (also known as "tck","vertigo", "Milky Way") is a form of dance based on a blend of hip hop and techno styles. Tecktonik style also borrows heavily from cyberpunk. It originated in Paris, France and has grown in popularity through word-of-mouth and video sharing sites such as Dailymotion and YouTube. Hardstyle is the main music style associated with Tecktonik. However, it has also become a prominent style of dancing to Electro house.

The term Tecktonik is also a registered trademark. This is the first time that the name of a dance has been protected in this way, and this has created copyright issues for dance events or other uses of the name. The name refers to the clash between music styles from Belgium and the Netherlands (hardstyle and jumpstyle) and more southern influences, similar to the collision of tectonic plates. Typical dress for Tecktonik dancers include tight-fitting jackets and slim-fit jeans. Dancers also tend to have "futuristic", sometimes even gothic hair cuts and sometimes wear make-up designs such as a star around one eye. The neon colours on shirts are linked to the London Nu Rave fashion scene.

  13. JDMoore says – reply to this

    113

Tecktonik appeared in France in 2000 in Paris in a nightclub called Metropolis. It borrows heavily from elements of glowsticking, and hip-hop dance moves including popping and locking, vogueing and wacking. Tecktonik was featured prominently at the 2007 Paris Techno Parade on September 15. It is popular at Gay Pride events in France and was notably so at the event in Nantes and Lyon in June 2007, although it is not specifically associated with the gay subculture.

Notable Tecktonik musicians include DJ Dess, RV. B, Deepack, Max B. Grant, Miss Hiroko and lately David Guetta, Dirty South and Yelle.

One of the first Tecktonik videos posted on YouTube featured Jey-Jey. Other notable Tecktonik dancers include Lecktra, Fredoo, Vavan, Spoke, Boobiz, Micktazz, the members of SMDB, Maestro, Junky, Sofy, Treaxy, and many others.

  24. American in Paris says – reply to this

    124

This is exactly why I don't go out here in Paris.
I use to go out all week in the US, but the attachment to the same old 80's techno -move on Europe, is shameful! I have the radio on now and after RIRI, techno of this sort! How HORRIBLE! No evolution on music dance club scene. Get over it people. Seven years here and it gets worse instead of better. Now the clothes in the video has become Fashionable! Selling like hotcakes in the stores + H&M!

  76. Valerie says – reply to this

    176

I just read all the comments, and I think it is absolutely mind-blowing how a lot of Europeans are saying Americans don't get this dance craze because we aren't trendy enough….um yeah, this dance is older than dirt! I didn't realize that taking every popular American dance move from the past 25 years (80s, vogue, raves, etc) and mixing it into one big mess was new or modern….I might be a "fat American" who is too busy "eating at McDonald's", but at least I'm not a pompous European who has the absurdity to heckle Americans for not understanding dance trends that actually orginated in the US. HEY EUROPE! HERE'S A HINT: we realized we looked like imbeciles doing these dance moves so we stopped doing them! Get off your high horse and eat a cheeseburger….and btw, I challenge any haters to a dance off because my fat American ass will tear you up!

  77. ppa says – reply to this

    177

some french guys created it…it's not that new actually… i live in france and it's been going around since last fall already (or maybe before that) growing more popular everyday…people really like or just make fun of it..it's a love it or leave it kinda of thing around here…

  78. Loreto says – reply to this
