Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Tyra Banks > Mike Huckabee

Our favorite* Republican presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee, was on Tyra's talk show talking about the gays and same sex marriage.

He's so damn funny! We just wanna get Ellen's dildo and smack him upside the head!

    Re: Conservative
No, being Christian and being homosexual are not conflicting at all. In any way, period. First of all, even if homosexual orientation is a sin - and I don't believe that it is, but let's say it is for the sake of argument - even if it is a sin, every person sins, and every Christian sins, and who are you or anybody else to say that his sin is worse than yours? And when did Jesus, the man we as Christians are supposed to be worshipping and trying to live like, ever say that homosexuality was wrong? He didn't. It's okay to believe that it's wrong. But it's displaying profound lack of education into the Christian religion to say that it's a conflict to be gay AND Christian. It certainly isn't. It doesn't say anywhere that homosexuality is worse than any other sin or so-called sin. Further, let's take a look at Jesus Christ, shall we? Let's look at how he lived his life…. He hung out with the people society condemned. His example showed us to do the same. He forgave, he loved, he knew that people sinned and loved them in spite of it. He still offered his love and forgiveness and companionship. And - this is a big one here - he preached AGAINST judging others.
Christianity is about - or is supposed to be about - living by Jesus' teachings, living by his example. Why is that so basic and obvious fact so outstandingly frequently ignored and forgotten?

And really, even if being gay is a sin, (which I don't believe), it doesn't mean you can't still be Christian. If it did, then people with other sings couldn't still be Christian, too. Liars could not be Christians, anyone who has ever stolen or coveted or cheated or hated or told a white lie, or a big lie, or intentionally caused another person pain, or took joy in someone else's pain, or judged another person, or did absolutely anything at all wrong to any extent could also not be Christian. Which means me, your family, your friends, the pope, mother theresa, everyone I know, everyone you know, and you.
Christianity is about love and charity and forgiveness and compassion and goodness and patience and *not judging.*

    Let the blackness roll on
    You bleed so easy
    Let the blackness roll on
I was stoned to the drone
    of the blackness that hums
I've become bored with flesh and bone again
The endless hum of the highway drone
    I was riding the turbulence

The taste of dead sex on my tongue
    On my tongue, yeah

    You bleed so easy
    let the blackness roll on

It was over before you were born
Sucked into the vacuum of this universal tomb
    Old blossom dies
    Like a young man breathes
The insects hum with their hunger and grieve
    An icon of pale bone
    Static white dream
    Blind in the wilderness
    Everybody scream
    I couldn't find my way
    Out the door
    We all died
    Woke up on the floor

It should be called Marriage, just marriage….no title of who's gay or straight… Everyone has the right to get married, it's that simple. The right to express feelings of love through a piece of symbolic paper and before their God or whatever. The more titles the more complications…it's a load off bullshit. As far as God, he/she/it/they is/are welcomed in the lives of whomever BELIEVES, but the ideaology of shoving organized beliefs down throats of those that could care less about faith and/or religion is wrong.

    SANDI —
Sandy your religion based opinion makes you willing to be a bigot.
Religions RECENTLY taught it was a sin for a white man to marry a black woman - and religious people made it against the law to do so.
Religious people taught their kids that the bible taught that blacks were a different level of animal, not human and ok to own.
Religions taught that woman were not equal to men and should not
    be allowed to vote.
Now religious teach you being gay is a sin. And you buy into it.

    147

Re: rjp3 – And yes, I'm aware that the adulteress was not a sexual orientation issue. But what I am saying is that Jesus was pretty crystal clear about not judging other people who have sinned or "sinned" or disagreed or were different, etc. etc. etc. He didn't say with his words, nor imply with his actions, that any human being was superior to any other. He knew that all of us - every. single. one. of us - sinned. And he still believed in loving and forgiving one another, and not in holding ourselves above anyone else. We're not better. And the entire point of my post was to argue with the person who claimed that Perez being gay and Christian was somehow a conflict. It's not, by any means.

There's a line between faith, belief, and democracy that one shouldn't cross to make everyone happy! From what I can see, which is pretty evident, I think it's the gays who are truly hateful. He didn't deem to be a man of hate, just a man with a set of beliefs, yet there are gay people in this discussion, including you perez, who criticize him for his beliefs and questions his religion! hypocrisy on you part perez! don't promote "love and equality" and call other people who oppose your views idiots! you are just as close-minded as you think they are.

Seems to me that Perez put the video up to encourage people to agree with his assessment that Huckabee is some sort of asshole, and it actually ended up making Huckabee look good! Ha! Your plan backfired, Perez … but no one ever did call you brilliant, I suppose.

As to the video itself … personally, the government shouldn't have the power to "define" marriage, anyway, since it's a religious institution. The government once again tries to stick its nose into private affairs of the people, where it doesn't belong, and the American sheeple just lap it right up and go along for the ride.

As to evolution, I'm a firm believer in teaching evolution as the most widely-respected scientific theory out there for explaining how species evolve, and Intelligent Design proponents seem to be religious wackos to me … but Huckabee didn't say anything idiotic or horrible in the clip. In fact, he sounded honest and open, and to me, that's refreshing in a politician.

I agree with Huckabee's comments. He is not bashing gays or pushing God on people. His personal beliefs are his to express, because we have a government that protects our freedom of choices. I'm sure you don't want the Federal Government to force a lifestyle or limit your choices; however, the liberal base is trying their best to get "Big Brother" to do just that. I believe they call this communism.

Canada redefined the word 'marriage'. Canada is filled with love, and America (in a general sense) is filled with a lot of hate.

It is actually EASILY explained how someone is genetically homosexual. It is one of MANY 'norms'. Just like a smaller percentage of people are naturally blonde, roughly ten percent of the population is NATURALLY GAY!

If people weren't so uneducated about everything (No, reading the bible doesn't count as education… "BECAUSE GOD SAYS SO!")… just take an introduction to psychology course in university, all of the science behind homosexuality is given. It is not a choice! It is genetic! And it is a norm, just the same as being 'tall' is a norm!

While Huckabee managed to not look like a complete homophobe, I do not support the idea that the term "marriage" is being re-defined. Look, if straight people can marry a million times, and pretty much totally drag the meaning of marriage through the mud, what is so wrong with homosexuals getting married? I mean, its not like a homosexual can further damage the word, then say, someone like Pamela Anderson can, so what's the big deal? Seperating that right is, in my opinion, giving straight people more rights, which is not fair. Huckabee has no way in hell getting his parties nomination tho, so this arguement simply has no point anyways… glad that he wasn't stright up dissing the gays tho.

To me, it's this simple — straight people do not claim to "choose" to be straight, so how can they say that gay people chose to be gay? I don't exactly remember sitting down one day, weighing my options, and then making my choice. I doubt anyone else does, either.

Umm, I dont see anything wrong with his view. Arent we all allowed to have our opinion, or are we in a communist regime?

wow Mike Huckabee - you really surprised me today. I am glad he approached it the way he did as I think hell-fire christians are people I can't relate to. He did it in a manner much more intelligent than I would have had I been talking of said christians. I mean, i'd be like you christians and your bible ain't got a leg to stand on. then they'd tie me to a buck fence and leave me to die. I like Mike Huckabee more and more these days - maybe I just favor the flat tax cause all these rich mofo's aren't paying any taxes anyways - I AM!!!!

He got all steamed too and thought anyone not thinking like him was lost. and quit calling me names. you really have no time for people who think differently than you, do you? HMMM…kinda' sounds like a definition of a BIGOT.

If you think for one second that Hillary and Obama feel in their heart otherwise, you are a very stupid gay man.

I'm gay and I'll be voting McCain. Why? Because I look at society as a whole and the fact that I can't marry my partner doesn't mean shit if we're looking the other way the next time we are attacked by terrorists.

The fact that leaders like Castro, Hussein (when he was alive), Chavez, Hamas, that crazy fuck in North Korea would all love to see a Democrat elected is all I need to make my decision.

I am a homosexual, and I didn't find anything wrong with what he said. I'm not for marriage at all, not even between a man and a woman. I just think marriage creates too many problems and people do it for the sake of lowered taxes, and a way to tie someone to you. For those that get married, if thats what you want to do, then great! I'm not judging you. For me personally, I don't feel that marriage should have to exist for people to having meaningful relationships. I actually wouldn't mind if Huckabee got in the White House. He's not anti-gay at all. Just because he doesn't support homosexual marriage, doesn't make him anti-gay in my opinion. If he came out saying that he disliked gay people and that all gays should convert, then this would make him anti-gay. I don't know about you all, but I want a President that keeps our taxes lowered. I don't need a President to "support" what I do in the bedroom, that should be no one else's business but you and your lovers. If Hilary or Obama get in the White House, expect taxes to go a lot higher. I mean with the whole Univeral Healthcare that they are both proposing, we will probably be paying 50-60% income tax. I prefer the Republicans when it comes to lowered taxes.

Ok, as much as I really don't like Huckabee, his interview wasn't horrible…thats the opinion that he has, and he backed himself up on it. He wasn't going back and forth on the issue, he stated his opinion and stuck with it…whether his opinion is right or wrong is a different discussion, but I dont think it was a horrible, awful interview.

    Re: Donna West

Donna you can have your opinion - but you need to accept it when your called out on being a bigot.

People who thought Blacks were a lower type of animal used the same arguement you just made.

Bigots always confuse the right to believe something with being called out on believing something that is vile and the self-serving belief of a bigot.

Tell us what you believe — but dont be surprised when your called an ignorant bigot.

Homosexuality is NOT listed as a MENTAL DISORDER you freak.
That changed in the 1960's === I guess your stuck in the LAST CENTURY and know better than the professionals.

F.Y.I. Hickabee doesn't stand a chance for office. People want change, and even John McCaine is more about that then Hickabee…I am so tired of stiffs running the office. Let's have some liberals in office, and get this country back on its feet! If anything else, let's get balanced again.

    Re: MeghanC

My thoughts exactly! Just was too lazy to type all that out!

Actually Meghan, there are many Christians that believe the way they do. It is a shame that they do not speak up, and only the "extreme" Christians that THINK they know the Bible speak up! Sad yet predictable. It reminds me of the high priests who would show off their "holiness!"

Thanks for shedding light to the general public that not all Christians are that stupid! It is about love and caring for others. Shame on those "Christians" that do not emulate the ways of Christ that they are supposed to.

Its so sad that religion brings so much hate into the world. I'm a lesbian and although i would't want a wedding-i want as many rights as any other couple in the world. I should have the chance to have a civil ceremoney should i wish. Being gay is not a life choice , its who i am and we should be classed as lower class than hetrosexual couples.

I must say that I think he handled the questions well, and the reason that so many people are behind him is bc he represents how they feel. They aren't hateful people who dislike gay people; they just don't believe that the current legal and societal meaning marriage is subject to change. They get demonized for that.

Perez, you being against him just because he's a Christian and a Republican is the same narrow-minded viewpoint of someone who dislikes someone based on race, gender or ethnicity.
Last time I checked, it was still legal to believe in God and be a Christian.
How about the REAL issues of this election- like the economy? Do you even know what Huckabee's Fair Tax Plan is? Look into it before you post more crap.

Re: Emma – that is by far the most ignorant thing posted today. you do realize even mike huckabee would not call homosexuality a disorder. there is a reason it can not be treated because it is not a disorder. you could never convince me that my gay friends living happily and contributing amazing things to this world and my life are disordered and should be treated and changed. why don't you go be friends with ann coulter?

Very well said, I totally agree with him. He didn't say anything wrong whatsoever. If the world has went this long without gay marriage and having the laws changed then why should it happen now? It's not supposed to be that way, just not natural. It's not because he's old-fashioned or whatever. He's not a bigot. He makes sense with what he's saying and I don't understand why people are going against him so badly. I think a lot of democrats come to this site more than republicans too and that has something to do with all the hate.

    Re: Nicole

Hey Nicole I wish you were Black so I could tell you the bible instructs that you are an animal that I should own to do my work.

There are still people who believe that and can say it as sweetly as Huckabee defames gay people.

You are a woman — and there are MILLIONS of people who use religious text to "prove" you should not vote, or drive, or have ANY OPINION or FREEDOM.
