Re: rjp3 – You're mistaken, I don't believe you're understanding what I'm saying. Of course gays are as good as anyone else. Orientation has nada to do with who a person is. In the comments I have made in this thread, I have consistently reinforced the belief that Christians should live like Christ did, that nobody is better than anyone else and that Jesus demonstrated that in the incredible way that he lived his life, and - maybe you missed this in my earlier comment - I don't believe homosexuality is a sin. I said quite clearly that "for the sake of argument," we'll assume that momentarily to enhance my point that even if it WERE, it still would not make homosexuals any worse than anybody else. But I was crystal in my statement that I do not believe any sexual orientation is wrong. This is what I went to school for, and I'm quite aware of the passage in the Leviticus that people use to back up their anti-gay beliefs, and I'm also quite aware that this passage was not actually stating that *any* orientation is inherently bad.

1.) I don't believe homosexuality is wrong.
2.) Even if it were, it still wouldn't mean that gays could not be Christians or that they are any worse than anyone else, but please, refer to point 1.
3.) Jesus was and is about love and compassion. He did not judge or look down on others, and did not want us to do so either.
4.) I don't support Huckabee, and I don't agree with him.
While I don't like or support his stances, I'm glad he's at least being honest about them. That way people won't waste their vote on a candidate only to later find out he'd been deceitful. The essence of his statements, of course I find distressing. The fact that he did not try to cover them up or hold them back or lie about them, I'm thankful for.

No person would "choose" to be gay. Why a life of unacceptance, intolerance, and for most, loneliness would appeal over the majority (think high school popular gang versus outcast sexually confused kid) is beyond me. What did he say that was so wrong? He did not say anything outrageous towards the homosexual lifestyle - he merely said his personal beliefs on the issue but was sure to address the fact that still believed in their right to be however they choose. He is just as allowed to be conservative in his thoughts as others are allowed to be liberal.
At least he acknowledge's the fact that there needs to be a public discussion on the issue rather than bluntly stating he is against it.

Why do you assume that gay people can't be conservative, or that conservatives can't respect gay people? That's the assumption underlying this lame line of questioning.
Gays and lesbians have the exact same problem that black people have in this country: they will never be taken seriously by either political party because everybody just assumes gays and lesbians, like blacks, are automatically liberal Democrats. So Democrats take us for granted and Republicans don't even try to do anything to attract us because they think we're a lost cause. Screw that.
